Carbis Bay Estate is a luxurious coastal retreat with a privately owned 25-acre Blue Flag beach, impeccable service, fine food, superb spa facilities and breathtaking views across one of the world’s most beautiful bays.

Whatever your mood, The Carbis Bay Estate has all the ingredients for the perfect holiday. Enjoy 125 acres of comfort and relaxation. Try one of our 38 individually furnished Main House rooms or the luxury of our coastal properties, and relax on the 25-acre Blue Flag beach.

Central to everything is the Main House, a white-walled landmark designed by the celebrated Cornish architect, Silvanus Trevail and erected in 1894. Inside, gilt mirrors and chandeliers are complemented by modern, chic interior touches. Along with 38 individually furnished rooms and sea-facing suites, you will find here the Conservatory, a light and airy dining area with far-reaching sea views.

Equally stunning is the Godrevy Room for events or, private dining, the peaceful Silvanus Trevail Lounge and the Boardroom for conferences and meetings. The multi-award-winning C Bay Spa, although part of the Main House, enjoys a secluded location with its well-loved facilities and relaxation zones.

Above the year-round heated pools stands the Pavilion, uniquely positioned for treatments or even an intimate wedding ceremony. From there, various verandas and terraces float down through subtropical gardens towards the private beach – and the South West Coast Path passes by on its way to St Ives.

Our Carbis Bay Beach has Blue Flag and Seaside Award accreditation – we are the only UK hotel to boast this – and offers almost a mile of soft, golden sand and sheltered waters. Halfway along, you’ll find the Ocean Sports Centre, offering tuition and hire of paddleboards and kayaks. Look for our Beach Club Restaurant with its informal “Mediterranean” appeal and open-air hot tub above the sands, backed by another Spa treatment suite.

For the ultimate in beachside living, consider our new Beach Lodges featuring spacious ocean-inspired interiors, the latest technology, roof gardens, beach gardens and alfresco private hot tubs. To follow is our opulent Ocean event venue with an events and dining suite and further accommodation on the beach.

The Estate additionally stretches back up the wooded valley where, beyond a tree-hugged stone viaduct, hide a range of serviced coastal properties. We also offer further options within a few minutes’ walk or drive, including the cosy Gannet Inn.

Then, moving on to the back of the body, you will receive a lava shell massage focussing on tense and knotted areas using these natural self-heating shells. Finally, we move on to the scalp to perform a Ayurvadic scalp massage before finishing with a one hour tailor made facial to suit your needs.

POLDARK FILMING LOCATIONS
The dramatic and beautiful Cornish landscape plays a starring role in the popular TV series, Poldark. Now visitors can follow in the footsteps of Poldark himself and explore some of these breathtaking locations (including our very own Carbis Bay!).

BOTALLACK
A centrepiece of Cornwall’s mining history and part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, the mines at Botallack in west Cornwall feature as Wheal Leisure (West Wheal Owles), Grambler (Wheal Crowns) and Wheal Grace. They also provide the backdrop to some coastal clifftop encounters.

CARBIS BAY
We’re excited to reveal that the crystal clear waters and golden sands of Carbis Bay Beach will feature in the fifth and final series of Poldark – keep your eyes peeled!

BODMIN MOOR
Scenes featuring the exterior of Ross Poldark’s cottage, Nampara, are shot on the wild and rugged Bodmin Moor along with many capturing the cast on horseback. It’s also the site of the miners’ cottages, such as the one that Ross gives to Jim Carter and his wife Jenny, and is home to Dr Dwight’s original cottage.

CHARLESTOWN
Charlestown near St Austell, famed for its collection of tall ships and traditional appearance, has long caught the attention of location managers. As well as standing in for Poldark’s Truro, it also plays the role of Falmouth where Captain Andrew Blamey lives and sails from.

His apparent Falmouth abode overlooks Charlestown’s inner harbour and it is from here that Verity Poldark elopes with him to the disapproval of her family. Charlestown beach and slipway also doubles up as St Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly in the scenes that see Ross meet up with the exiled Mark Daniels in series two.

LEVANT MINE
North east of Botallack is the National Trust owned mine of Levant. Well preserved and restored it houses the only existing working steam beam engine and its buildings serve as Tressiders Rolling Mill.

Early in series two the debate between Ross and Francis regarding claims for the engines’ capabilities by its inventor, the engineer Richard Trevithick, plays out in the engine room – although in reality both actors were “green screened” in through the window and were actually standing on a platform elsewhere

PORTHCURNO
One of Cornwall’s most stunning beaches, it’s easy to see why Poldark location managers picked the exotic oasis of Porthcurno for Nampara Cove. With gorgeous fine soft white sand washed by a sea that turns turquoise in the sun and high cliffs on both sides providing shelter, it is a true natural beauty. In series two (episode two), Demelza and Ross find themselves walking along Porthcurno in a dream sequence on a spectacular sunny day.

BOAT TRIPS
Head out onto the waters where the Cornish coast meets the Atlantic Ocean, on a boat skippered by locals who know the best caves, coves and islets to explore. Take a trip to Seal Island or Godrevy Lighthouse and Hell’s Mouth, or cast a line and try to catch a few fish for the barbecue. And, if you’re lucky, you might be joined by dolphins, leaping in the boat’s wake.
