The latest member of Design Hotel in Thailand, Casa de La Flora, the 36 cube-shaped villas located in Khao Lak, brings a modern edge to this palm tree beach of Phangnga province.
Designed by VaSLab Architecture, commissioned in 2008 by one of leading Thai businessmen Sompong Dowpiset, this beachfront resort was aimed to serve as a new high profile but yet humble destination hotel in this beautiful town of the southern Thailand.
The brief given to the architect is a unique resort that consist a series of pool villas with maximum ocean views possible. Facilities as reception lounge, swimming pool, pool bar, beachfront restaurant, spa, fitness, and library are the must-have programs in this hotel.
The owner challenges the architect to create a bold look of architecture but yet yields to warmness and nature after its implied name, “flora”. VaSLab’s metaphorical design takes on the act of “arising flora”, where each concrete versus wood villa reflects as a flora form, emerges from the ground, and blooms to reach the daylight.
Deviated walls and tilted roofs are characterized throughout the series of 36 cubic-form villas, where these tapered elements do not only recall the act of arising flora but they widen the rooms’ perspective frames when looking outward to the sea.
The continuity of these lines can be seen also in interior space and at interior elements such as built-in beds, coffee tables, and built-in cabinets. Custom-made furniture designed by Anon Pairot Design Studio carries this thematic design as some of them represent organic form of a flora.
The same as landscape and hardscape work from a talented designer T.R.O.P., who extends the lines of architecture into a set of charming path ways, pavement blocks, green walls, etc., as they act like its architecture’s root, stem, and branches. APLD, the lighting designer, abstractly sets the resort’s lighting to provoke the main architectural elements; deviated walls, tilted roofs, as if the villa cubes are arising above the ground.
Its glass-fronted villas have clean interiors featuring concrete surfaces, natural stone walls, and wooden floors/ ceilings. Ten units stand directly to the beach, with maximum sea views, and all come with private pools, 24-hour butler service and the latest in-room entertainment.
Eco-friendly credentials come in the form of an ozone (low-chemical) purification system for the swimming pools and waste-water and rain water recycling.
Casa de La Flora is located right on the beautiful, unspoiled beach of Bang Niang, Khao Lak. We’re just one-hour drive from Phuket Airport (approx 80 kms.), only 5-min drive to Khao Lak center and close to Khao Lak National Park.
Similan and Tachai islands are not far away. Although the location is very convenient, the surrounding nature including the beach and the ocean is still wild and free, welcoming visitors from across the globe.
BEACHFRONT GRAND POOL VILLA
This villa is situated by the beach with spectacular views of the ocean. The beautiful scenery makes this villa secluded and special. The villa comprises 2 comfortable bedrooms, featuring a state-of-the art living room, two spacious bathrooms in each of which are a large bathtub, a separate rain shower and toilet.
The villa comes with a private outdoor area with its lovely long swimming pool, decking area where two sunbeds (for 4 persons) beckons sunbath lovers, and a small garden, perfect for rest and seclusion. Once in this private villa, guests may never want to leave.
GRAND POOL SUITE
At the rear of the property lies the great Grand Pool Suite. What makes this suite so special is its really stunning ocean view as it is in an elevated position. This suite offers a perfect vista of the entire resort and scenery.
It proudly presents a spacious bedroom as well as ultra-spacious pool (6-meter long). Like other categories, it also features a lavish living room and a bathroom with separate rain shower and toilet. Once in, you will see that luxury is prevalent in the myriad details of the suite.
BEACHFRONT SUITE POOL VILLA
These five villas are situated by the beach with panoramic ocean views. Each villa offers a large comfortable bedroom with a nicely sized living room. A bathroom which features a romantic two-person bathtub, separate rain shower and separate toilet makes your shower so relaxing and refreshing.
Guests will also enjoy a privilege of a convenient access to a private pool in each villa. A cozy garden and a deck makes the outdoor area so secluded and in harmony with surrounding nature.
CASA POOL SUITE
This lovely suite is next to the Casa Presidential Suite, set in the rear of the property. The suite comprises a big bedroom, bathroom with two-person bathtub, separate rain shower and toilet.
Its highlight seems to be a romantic outdoor private pool set on the veranda. One special privilege in this suite is its roof terrace, where guests can enjoy sunbathing while feel the warm wind carried on the Andaman ocean.
DUPLEX POOL SUITE
These suites are set in the rear part of the property. There are two stories in each suite. The ground floor is comprised of a commodious living room which has access to a private plunge pool. On the second floor are a plush bedroom and an extended spacious bathtub (by a terrace). The terrace has two sunbeds for guests to enjoy sunbathing.

Closer to home, Khao Na Yak is the house reef for Khao Lak. Only 45 minutes away by local boat, and with a maximum depth of only 9m, this is a most relaxing dive and an excellent site for new divers or for those of you who haven’t dived for a while.
Khao Na Yak Reef also appeals to experienced divers who like to spend some time focusing closely on the varied fish life of a tropical reef, with the advantage of a longer bottom time due to the shallow depth.
Many beautiful nudibranchs can be found here – and see if you can find the ghost pipefish! Also visited by many lionfish and the occasional ray and leopard shark, and including a colourful selection of tropical fish, this dive site is the perfect place to concentrate on the small things

If you are staying in Khao Lak. It’s worth going down to Phuket for sightseeing & shopping a day trip. Out of the nature and see into a big city full with things to see.
First we will stop at the Pra Put temple (Wat Pra Put) then visit the old town of Phuket and then you can view the whole view of Phuket town (big Buddha temple). Later you will enjoy shopping at one of the huge shopping malls in Phuket or the huge local market on Saturday and Sunday.
KHAO SOK LAKE (CHIEW LAAN LAKE)
Chiew Laan Lake trip is a great trip with a lot of things to see, especially if you like nature and animals. The first stop at the viewpoint, you can see over the whole jungle area of the Khao Sok.
The lake’s surrounding provide exciting views over mountains, bizarre lime stone formations and wild jungle. We will then stop for lunch at a floating restaurant and after that go for a bath in the lake before we depart back to Khao Lak.

The Nam Kem Tsunami Memorial has got to be seen before you leave Thailand. It was opened once year after the terrible Tsunami hit Khao Lak. The cashew nut factory is very famous place for Khao Lak as well. You will be able to watch the production and processing cashew nuts.
