Since opening in 1987, The Tongsai Bay has established itself as the leading family owned hotel on the tropical island of Koh Samui, Thailand.

Hidden amongst 28 and a half acres of breathtaking natural beauty and wrapped around a private bay, the hotel is renowned for its privacy and tranquility, its passionate love for the environment and last but not least, the friendliness of its staff.

At The Tongsai Bay we understand that choosing a holiday destination and hotel is an important decision, and of course having the holiday you envision. To best highlight who and what we are please find below our key points to assist you to get to know us a little better.

Our bay is private and completely free of beach vendors. We offer complimentary non motorized water sports – kayaks, windsurfs, hobbie cats, stand up paddle boards and snorkeling equipment. Please note to keep the peace and ensure we have a great bay for swimming we do not offer motorized water sports.

The only private bay that’s 10 minutes from Chaweng beach, 10 minutes from Fisherman’s Village and 10 minutes from the airport. 28 and a half acres of lush green natural landscape wrap around our hillside overlooking the bay that welcomes over 66 different species of birds.

We truly strive to be more ‘green’ and follow a green policy that covers 6 major areas and even produce our own effective microorganism (EM) from fruits that we use as natural cleaning agents in our rooms.

Our design embraces space – with only 83 rooms we are not a hotel that was designed based on revenue per square meter. We have generous land space and balconies for all guests to enjoy the beautiful views from.

All rooms have sea views, all have outside outdoor bathtubs with the exception of 8 Beachfront Suites on the ground floor. A Family run hotel with over 20 staff that have worked here for more than 20 years that offer personalized yet unobtrusive service.

We do not offer motorized water sports so our bay is perfect for swimming, we also have 2 main pools – one specifically for those seeking peace and quiet that welcomes adults and young adults 14 years and over.

We are not a ‘Ken and Barbie’ resort where guests may feel they have to be a certain mold to fit in, we enjoy a wide range of nationalities and we also have a very wide range of age groups that all equally enjoy The Tongsai Bay – from honeymooners, couples, retirees, families and friends traveling with friends.

THE TONGSAI BAY STORY

It all began in 1985 when the late Akorn Hoontrakul, then Chairman of The Imperial Hotel Group, saw The Tongsai Bay from the sea and declared that it was love at first sight. Seven days later Akorn purchased the land.

For three months he slept on the beach, dreaming of his ideal resort, and started to plan the layout and location of the rooms. A key challenge was to do it without cutting down a single tree or cause damage to the beautiful natural surroundings.

The Tongsai Bay opened its doors in July 1987 and became the first five-star luxury hotel on Koh Samui, under the umbrella of The Imperial Hotel Group. Following a period of illness in 1993, Akorn sold the Imperial Hotel Group whilst retaining The Tongsai Bay, because he wanted to live out the rest of his life there with his beloved wife Chompunute.

In 2000 Akorn passed away and management of The Tongsai Bay moved to the capable hands of his son, Thanakorn and his daughter in-law, Saisiri who both share Akorn’s passion for the environment and for providing the best of Thai hospitality and service.

Under their watchful eyes, The Tongsai Bay continued to grow from strength to strength and developed its own ‘Green Projects’. This is now the model for many new hotels who also desire to preserve the natural environment for future generations, both in Samui, Thailand and internationally.

Nang Gong Villa (244 sq.m.)
Atop the hillside, the Nang Gong Villa features a vast open air terrace complete with signature “bath with a view”, 4 poster gazebo with mosquito net, bar, dining area and sun loungers.

Two private pools – one overlooking the bay of Tongsai, while the other one overlooks the neighbouring Choengmon Bay; combined you have the most sweeping sea views of all the room types at The Tongsai Bay. The interior boasts a large lounge and views from the bedroom look over the pool and neighbouring beach and bay.

Pool Dimensions: 2.8m x 8.65m with a depth of 1.2m and 2.5m x 4.74m with a depth of 1.2m. Maximum occupancy: 3 adults or 2 adults + 2 children

Akorn Villa (264 sq.m)
The Akorn Villa is named after our founder, and is our largest villa of which more than half comprises a vast terrace with large L-shaped pool. It has two bedrooms – a double and a twin, each accessible from the terrace itself.

This villa features our open air signature “bath with a view”, 4 poster gazebo with mosquito net, bar, dining area and sun loungers. The sweeping sea views beyond the private pool are far reaching, allowing a sense of privacy and tranquility. Maximum occupancy: 4 adults or 2 adults + 3 children

Tongsai Pool Villas (180 sq.m.)
The Tongsai Pool Villas are located on the 2nd row that forms the Tongsai Pool Villas. Each villa features a vast open air terrace complete with signature “bath with a view”, 4 poster gazebo with mosquito net, bar, dining area and sun loungers.

All villas have sea views, private pools and allow for a sense of privacy and tranquility. Two adjacent villas can be linked for larger families or friends travelling together. Pool Dimensions: 3m x 5m with a depth of 1.2m to 2.8m x 8.6m with a depth of 1.2m. Maximum occupancy: 3 adults or 2 adults + 2 children

Hideaway Cottage (120 sq.m.)
This is an individual and special Cottage Suite tucked away in isolation from the rest of the resort and offers unsurpassed sea views and privacy. Although our golf carts will take you most of the way, please note that there are a few steps to negotiate to deliver you to this private haven.

On the terrace, in addition to the signature “bath with a view” and 2 sun loungers it has a large table and an outside four-poster gazebo complete with mosquito net. Maximum occupancy: 3 adults or 2 adults + 2 children

Beachfront Suites (72-86 sq.m.)
Beachfront Suites are located in our 3-storey building nestled behind the main pool. All enjoy direct pool and sea views. The ground floor rooms have an oversize indoor bathroom, terraces complete with sun-loungers and have direct gated access to the pool area and gardens – ideal for families with children.

The two upper floors all have our signature “bath-with-a-view” on the terrace, sun loungers and a dining/writing table for 2. Maximum occupancy: 3 adults or 2 adults + 2 children

Seafront Cottages (68-78 sq.m.)
The Seafront Cottages have the same design and facilities as Cottage Suites including our signature “bath-with-a-view” and are located on the front row of the hill and bayside, allowing for beautiful sea views and privacy. The interior boasts a split-level design of bedroom and living area. Maximum occupancy: 2 adults + 1 child

PO-LAD BEACH BISTRO & BAR

Dining seaside at Po-lad Beach Bistro for Lunch or Dinner is a casual affair with a large array of cuisine options. Lunch ranges from share platters, salads and a multitude of burgers, sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, pastas and Thai dishes. Dinner takes you in a different direction of flavors and style from home style comfort foods to western Asian fusion.

Our Po-lad menu has been lovingly designed to offer diversity and culinary variety whilst providing food for the soul. Po-lad is open from 11am and serves full menu’s through to 10.30pm and a light supper menu from 10.30pm to midnight.

CHEF CHOM’S THAI RESTAURANT

Chef Chom’s was named after Chef Piengchom Dhadahbanand who was previously a Chef in the Thai Royal household and has trained over 500 chefs and cooks her illustrious career. After many years at The Tongsai Bay she has handed the skills of traditional Thai cuisine down to our current Chef Chom’s kitchen brigade lead by Sous Chef, Chef Nancy.

Geographically, Thais generally divide Thailand into four distinct regions: North (Nua), North Eastern (Issarn), Central (Klang) and the South (Dtai). The diversity of climate and topography from the temperate North to the tropical South is vast and therefore the abundance of different produce drives distinct styles and flavors from each region.

The focus of Chef Chom’s is to provide traditional Thai cuisine that is authentic to the region in which it originated whilst using the highest quality of ingredients, presented in an eclectic style that draws on different flavors throughout the whole of Thailand.

THE BUTLERS

Always one to innovate and never imitate, The Tongsai Bay is adding a new dining experience to compliment the relaxed vibe of the Po Lad Beach Bistro & Bar and the delicious and authentic Thai cuisine available each evening at Chef Chom’s Thai Restaurant.

Guests can tantalize their taste-buds with a delightful selection of Asian tapas inspired dishes, expertly prepared by Michelin trained, Chef Eak. A selection of carefully selected wines complimenting each dish are also on offer.

The Butler’s is open every Tuesday & Thursday evening from19:00 and offers guests an informal, yet cozy and memorable dining experience. The Butler’s caters for adults, although older children are welcome. The small, yet perfectly formed restaurant caters for just 20 guests per evening, therefore, advance booking is advisable.

There is simply no better way to dine than privately by candlelight with a personal Chef and Waiter on hand to create the most memorable of evenings.

PRANA SPA

Spa treatments are now firmly established as a major component of a holiday, especially here in Thailand. Our Spa, set amidst the hotel’s natural green surroundings, provides a haven of relaxation and beauty with a selection of therapeutic, healing and restorative treatments. Treatments range from pure relaxation to those designed specifically to help control or decrease stress and thereby lessen susceptibility to stress-related problems.

Signature treatments such as the “Samui Dream” which is a traditional Thai remedy combining coconut oil and local herbs to repair sunburned skin and our “Return to Prana” 2.5 hour spa escape allow you to go beyond the standard spa experience.

Our private spa cottages are each equipped with two massage beds, two treatment beds for Thai and other massage styles, two easy chairs for foot treatments, a herbal steam room and an open-air bathtub for floral or milk baths. These rooms are private and can accommodate either bookings for couples and singles alike.

FREE-FORM POOL (MAIN POOL)

Our main free form 50 metre fresh water pool and separate children’s paddling pool area both offer, sun-loungers with parasols and side-tables. Sunbeds also flow just metres from the main pool onto the beach sand.

Even when the hotel is full there are more than enough loungers and parasols for everyone, so there is no need to reserve – we work on a ‘first come first served’ basis. The Beach Boy team is on duty from 9.00 to 19.00 to provide you with fresh towels, bar drinks plus complimentary iced drinking water.

HALF-MOON POOL

Our ‘Half moon’ swimming pool is found half way up the hillside on the pathway from the Po-Lad Beach Bistro to our villas. This pool offers spectacular views of the bay and total tranquility. To maintain the peaceful nature of this area we maintain an adults and young adults 14 years and over policy.

WATER SPORTS

The resorts secluded 200-metre beach follows the green policy of The Tongsai Bay and therefore offers only non-motorized water sports to ensure a more tranquil environment is maintained.

From 09:00 to 17:00 enjoy our complimentary hobbie cats, windsurfers, kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling equipment (subject to availability and weather conditions). Our beach boys are happy to offer training for beginners at times listed at the beach.

THE EXERCISE ROOM

Located at the back of the main pool area, The Exercise Room offers treadmills, bikes, steppers, rowing machine, weights and multi-purpose exercising units. Our exercise room is unmanned, however, cold towels, hand towels, water and music are available. Open daily from 07:00 – 20:00

THE “GA LA” MEETING ROOM

This comfortable meeting facility offers complete flexibility for formal or informal meetings, motivational get-togethers and private dining. The room is strategically located off the lobby.

Whatever the nature of your meeting, we can offer boardroom, schoolroom, tabletop, theater style set-ups with all the required equipment – projector, screen, podium, flip charts, white boards etc. Incorporated in one half of the meeting room is a comfortable lounge area with easy chairs where tea & coffee breaks can be taken served.

The Ga La room is ideal for meetings of between 6 and 16 participants and its rental is completely free of charge if a minimum of 4 hotel rooms are booked for a minimum of 1 night.

TENNIS COURT

The floodlit tennis court, located high on the hill by the main entrance to the resort is available for complimentary use from 07:00 – 21.00 daily. For tennis court reservations please contact Guest Relations on Extension 1. or book with them at the Lobby. Our staff will provide you with rackets, balls and drinking water.

COOKING CLASS

Thai food is renowned for its use of fragrant herbs and spices. The cooking of the majority of Thai dishes starts with the preparation of all ingredients followed by the widely used method of fast high heat cooking.

The Tongsai cooking class is conducted by our Senior Thai Chefs as we believe there is no better way to understand the properties of Thai cuisine than from the people that were born and bred eating it and now also cooking it daily.

Only 3 minutes from the resort is our own Organic Garden where our gardening team grow a variety of produce that is utilized within our restaurants. Walk with our Chefs as they explain the different uses of fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices and collect what is seasonally available for use in your class.

On return to the resort the cooking class starts with a demonstration of how to make your own curry paste from scratch for those truly adventurous that wish to practice it at home.

Once complete your Chef will take you through the step by step process of cooking a 4 course Thai meal including a curry from the demonstrated paste making session. The most important factor of all in Thai cooking is the balance of 4 areas – spice, salt, sour and sweet which our Chefs will guide you in.

At the completion of the class, relax and enjoy your Thai cooking at our Chef Chom’s Restaurant and for those cooking alone you are most welcome to invite a partner to dine with you.

YOGA CLASS

Yoga is a series of gradual and systematic movements into poses promoting the wellbeing of both body and mind. Postures are introduced to suit your physical structure. Ideal for those who wish to learn how to counteract the stresses of daily life.

While on holiday at Tongsai why not join one of the ‘3 Brothers of Yoga’ on Samui as Khun Sanya, Khun Bawo or Khun Sakdar welcome beginners to the more experienced yoga students for a one hour class in our Yoga room. A maximum of 10 participants can join a class; however, private classes can also be arranged at a different time.

MOVIE NIGHT ON THE BEACH AND UNDER THE STARS

Stars, sand, popcorn and a movie – it’s not your traditional movie night out but one that many remember as a special holiday moment. Weekly movies exchange between latest releases & classics that can be enjoyed stretching out on a sun lounger or lounging on traditional Thai cushions & bean bags.

To remind you of being in Thailand complimentary popcorn is offered in both chili and butter options. Should you wish to enjoy a beverage or two our bar staff are on standby to wait on you….a perfect way to enjoy a movie Tongsai style.

FRUIT CARVING CLASS

It is almost impossible to miss one of these two characters at breakfast when passing the fruit and juice station – Khun Pu and Khun Jee have a combined 44 years working at The Tongsai Bay and they specialize in the areas of fruits and vegetables, salad, juices, Thai cold foods and of course fruit carving.

Considering the fact they also combine 20 perfectly intact fingers after these 44 years, there is simply no better hands to be in than these 2 ladies to learn to carve fruit and vegetables. From table centerpieces of watermelon flowers to plate garnishing, they can teach creations to impress friends, family or add a special touch to a dinner party.

THAI CULTURAL CLASS AND BEGINNERS THAI LANGUAGE CLASS
