LAS CASAS
Long ago, old world explorers founded the city of Santo Domingo as the first permanent settlement in the new world. Today, in the historic district known as the Colonial City, a new discovery awaits the refined traveler: A unique hotel where old world romance combines with the utmost modern luxury and comfort while providing privacy, seclusion and the highest quality standards.

CASA DEL POZO
Represents the juxtaposition of antique and modern structures that harmonize in the Colonial City. Casa del Pozo is outstanding: all that is antique is preserved, and the new structures are modern, highlighting the value of its centenarian foundations.

The house features a dining room, six luxury rooms with a private bathroom each, and a center courtyard with an outdoor lounge area and swimming pool. Maximum capacity of 16 people.

  • Architecture: An impressive colonial structure dating to the 16th century nestled within the former grounds of the Convent of the Dominican order.
  • Name Origin: Tribute to the ancient well that was found in the courtyard.
  • Concept: A great city dwelling where history and present-day life coexist in harmony.
  • Design: Opposing colors, black and white, juxtapose with surprising touches in other different tones. The wood and antique plasters coexist in the different social areas and bedrooms.

CASA DEL DISEÑADOR
Committed to the advancement of arts & design in the Dominican Republic. Casa del Diseñador is a tribute to the great fashion designers of this beautiful Caribbean island. Upon opening its doors, you will be transported to the 16th century where elegance, comfort and privacy converge.

The house features two luxury rooms with a private bathroom, a dining room, outdoor lounge area and dining space, large patio and terrace with private plunge pool. Maximum capacity of 6 people.

  • Architecture: The house occupies a space within the ancient walls of the garden of the Convento de los Dominicos and it shelters an original arch dating from the 16th century. All of its rooms lead to the large terrace and tropical patio with plunge pool.
  • Name Origin: An homage to the greatest designers of the Dominican Republic.
  • Concept: Quiet elegance, provides a feeling of seclusion and privacy.
  • Design: Wash of neutral colors in the main areas and an intertwining mix of bright colors in the bedrooms, light fabrics and tropical flare are used in the designs made especially for this house.

CASA ANTILLANA
Honors the rich and magical cultures of the West Indies. Casa Antillana exudes a colonial Antillean design theme celebrating the tropical ambience found in the Caribbean islands.

The house features three luxury rooms with private room, living area and outdoor dining space, and a central garden anchored by a large sea grape tree and an ornate plunge pool. Maximum capacity of 8 people.

  • Architecture: From the entrance we can anticipate what lies inside. The door is an intense green and is framed by a white portico that respects the antique colonial masonry. Upon crossing the threshold everything is brightness, the main room opens to the interior garden through large white doors.
  • Name Origin: Honors the Antillean culture
  • Concept: Tropical, colonial Antillean, main inspirations behind Patricia Reid’s majestic interiors at Casas del XVI.
  • Design: Plantation style décor, white walls intermixed with touches of color, as well as natural materials, woods, embroideries and tropical prints.
  • Culture: Antillean music, cuisine, fashion, art, allegories.

CASA DE LOS MAPAS
Evokes travel, history and exploration. The original structure dates to the Spanish colonial era. Located on the grounds of the former Dominican Monastery, successive uses and restorations have transformed the house, surpassing its original state. Vintage maps, plantation-style furniture and richly patterned floor tiles create a colonial-tropical ambience.

The house features three luxury rooms with a private bathroom, living and dining area, open kitchen, large patio and courtyard. Guests may enjoy its lush open courtyard and refreshing swimming pool. Maximum capacity of 6 people.

  • Architecture: This home feels tropical all around. Spacious, bright and colorful rooms mirror the 19th century and a large courtyard with a pool flanked by lush tropical vegetation.

COLONIAL CITY

There is simply nothing like a stroll through the Colonial City to complete your Dominican vacation. In the midst of fast-paced, 21st century Santo Domingo, you will find that the Colonial City moves at its own pace.

Founded in 1496 by the brother of Christopher Columbus, the Colonial City is the oldest permanent city established by Europeans in the Western Hemisphere. Here beautiful homes, churches and monuments from the 16th-18th century are the setting of everyday life.

The Colonial City is a very walkable grid of 16 short streets with jewels of 16th to early 20th century architecture. Cobblestone lanes and iron street lamps lead to the many small museums, shops, restaurants and bars that are tucked away on every street.

See the oldest cathedral in the Americas and experience some antique shopping by day, then enjoy the local and contemporary nightlife, with fine food and drink, as well as exciting entertainment.

OLD CITY STROLL
Proclaimed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site, this city was the first European colony in the Western Hemisphere. Here you will find the first cathedral, the first monastery, the first university and the first hospital built in the Americas. The tour is tailor-made to visit the sites of your choosing. Duration: 3 hours.

FLAVORS OF THE OLD CITY
Santo Domingo is a magical combination of modernism, old world charm and Latin charisma. The cuisine in this city of firsts is as varied as it is rich and flavorful as the old town itself.

Joins us in a culinary tour of this magical capital and enjoy a variety of tastes found in the restaurants. Includes: visits to four restaurants and especially prepared appetizers and drinks at each of the stops. (Alcoholic and Non-alcoholic options). Duration: 3.5 hours

CHURCHES
This tour will take you from the gothic-style architecture of the Santa Barbara Church to Convento de los Dominicos where exceptional altars dedicated to the Miraculous Virgin and the Most Holy One stand.

Then you’ll continue to the Chapel of la Altagracia and the Chapel of Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro. Conclude with a visit to Santa María basilica, the first Cathedral in the Western Hemisphere. Duration: 4 hours

RON BARCELO’ & RUM EXPERIENCE
Visit the Ron Barceló Historical Center where you will be introduced to its humble beginnings in the 1930s. Ron Barceló is currently one of the most prestigious brands not only in the country, but in the world.

A tasting of the Ron Barceló product line accompanied by a small snack will be the perfect ending for this enjoyable experience. Cigar and rum pairing is available for private groups upon request. Duration: 3.5 hours

DINNER & SHOW
This enchanting tour includes panoramic sight-seeing of the Colonial City and dinner at one of the most popular restaurants at Plaza España. Later, a walk through the old city will take you to one of its famous bars to enjoy a drink and a local show. Duration: 4 hours

CHOCOLATE, CLAY & SUGAR
The tour begins with a visit to one of the largest organic cocoa producers of the Caribbean. Then, head to a farm/atelier where a group of chocolatiers will roast, hand-grind and make chocolate for your enjoyment.

Next, visit local clay artisans where you will see their hands creating breathtaking ancestral artifacts. Here, you will savor a buffet-style lunch of local cuisine accompanied by a musical performance of Dominican-African rhythms inspired by sugarcane and drums. Duration: 4.5 hours (2 person min.)

GOLF
Las Lagunas Country Club is a par 72, 18-hole golf course located a short drive from Santo Domingo. Originally designed by Pete Dye, Las Lagunas was modified by Jack Corrie and opened its doors in 1989.

Often compared to Augusta, it offers wild and intense vegetation and the use of water and sand traps may well recall a few holes of The Master’s golf course.

SANTO DOMINGO BY NIGHT
The night begins with an aperitif at one of the popular bars in the Colonial City followed by a panoramic tour of both the old and modern areas of the city. You will enjoy a gourmet dinner at a fine restaurant.

Then, the night ends with drinks and dancing at one of Santo Domingo’s popular clubs. Includes guide, transportation, dinner, complimentary drinks and entrance to club. Duration: 3.5 hours

COMPLETE TOUR OF SANTO DOMINGO
The tour begins with a visit to the Museum of the Resistance followed by a visit to the National Palace. A drive through Gascue and its art deco houses leads to a stop at Plaza de la Cultura, where one of several museums (MAM, Museo del Hombre, Historia y Geografía and Historia Natural) can be visited.

The tour ends with a ride along the Malecón and a visit to the Colonial City’s Plaza España where you will be able do a little shopping or enjoy an afternoon stroll. Duration: 6 hours

CLAY MASTERS
Learn how to work clay according to the unique process of Casa Alfarera, a studio of handmade ceramic made with materials excavated and processed in the Dominican Republic. The clay figures are made based on mineral recipes that reach their optimum cooking point; the enamels are toxic free so the pieces can be used freely on a daily basis.

Take a 1-hour couple’s or group class of manual modeling while also receiving a complete explanation of the ceramic process. The piece created during class can be taken home as a memento after being carefully treated. The class can also be adapted for children and includes a snack.

ARTISANAL DRESS UP
As seen in Departures magazine, Santo Domingo has become an epicenter for the most stylish and creative artists, turning the city into a new Caribbean hot spot. Being located at the heart of the Colonial City, guests of Casas del XVI can walk around the historic quarter and visit boutiques and ateliers to discover the charming and gorgeous works of art being created.

If a guest is particularly interested in conversing with any of the artists or designers, Casas del XVI can arrange the meet and greet during the tour. La Alpargateria, Los Tejedores, Oriett Domenech, Casa Alfarera, Mamey Galeria.

The tour and visits to stores can be planned out for the guests during their stay and can be done with or without the assistance and company of the Butler.

THE PLEASURE OF A CIGAR
Learn the ancestral cigar rolling technique brought from Cuba by the patriarch of the Arturo Fuente family, with an Arturo Fuente Connoisseur. In addition, enjoy a tour of the Arturo Fuente Chateau where their tobacco is grown, followed by a delicious dinner at Casa del Árbol.

Arturo Fuente cigars are among the best in the world. Each cigar represents over four generations dedicated to perfecting the art of fine cigars by the Fuente family, which started its tradition in Cuba in the 19th century.

COOKING SHOW
A gastronomic experience like no other where you will learn from the hand of our Chef in an intimate cooking class in one of our colonial houses.

Together you will prepare 5 specialties of Casas del XVI from beginning to end mixed with anecdotes and history about Dominican cuisine, its roots and influences. Afterwards, enjoy the delicious dishes for dinner along with wine pairing in a private area for you and your classmates.

At the end of the evening, you will receive a recipe book of the dishes that you cooked so you can share your new talent when you return home. The class can be individual or group, with a maximum capacity of 4 people, and must be coordinated with a minimum of 48 hours.

MUSEUM TOUR EXPERIENCE
Enjoy a personalized and private museum tour alongside a curator, artist, historian or museum director. Santo Domingo is home to different museums and many are recognized world wide for their history and art. Casas del XVI can create a magical experience for those history, photography and art aficionados.

MUSEUM FERNANDO PENA DEFILLO
Museum was created by the Fernando Peña Defilló Foundation with the main objective of sharing the private family collection of one of the great masters of Dominican painting. This beautiful collection extends through more than sixty-five years and leaves a beautiful legacy for current and future generations.

ALCAZAR VIRREINAL DE COLON
Built in the second decade of the sixteenth century, it was home of the Viceroyal Court presided over by the first Viceroy of America, Diego Colón, who lived there with his wife. Abandoned since the 18th century, it was restored around 1955 to be converted into a museum where more than 800 original pieces from the 13th to the 20th centuries are exhibited.

CENTRO DE IMAGEN
Created by Fundación Imagen 83, the center is a space dedicated to the study, analysis, training, promotion, dissemination and appreciation of photography and image among diverse communities.

Centro de la Imagen has permanent and temporary exhibits of the highest quality that are open to the public to advance the knowledge of photography and image as a medium and language. Our Museum & Fine Art Connoisseurs have exciting professional schedules.
