The French garden, as well as the 25-hectare park, whose bicentennial plane trees line the canal, make Château de Courcelles a place for escape and tranquility.

Obeying precise rules, issued and enforced by master gardeners for over two centuries, the garden showcases the château, offering a perspective overlooking the main building and outbuildings.

Dotted with various points of interest, conducive to strolling and exploring, the 25 hectares of the park enable you to discover the château from different angles, arousing your curiosity in peaceful surroundings.

What could be more relaxing than walking along the reach, sitting on a bench and taking time to enjoy the reflections of the plane trees on the water. Every season has its charm and every time of day, its colour.

Have fun finding your way out of this maze that the French nobility were so fond of and played in with their family or simply to flirt.

There are many species of trees and small paths accessible to everyone, on foot or that you can take for fitness purposes (jogging) or on the bicycles we place at your disposal, free of charge.

Château de Courcelles offers you many services during your stay. Many infrastructures are in the Castle and do not hesitate to contact our Front Desk Team to prepare your stay at Courcelles or to order special amenities.

The Château de Courcelles is located at the gates of Champagne, between Soissons and Reims and 130km from Paris (1h15). This is the perfect place between the euphoria of a big city, and calm of the vineyards and heritage cities of the Royal France.

A PROPERTY RICH OF HISTORY
The Château’s rich history is representative of the history of France. Built during the 17th century, the Castle was the theater of many important periods: occupation by the Germans during World War I, then property of Mr. Bonjean, an art dealer and collector and in the years after he acquired it, he welcomed famous and illustrious guests, such as fashion king Christian Dior.

It’s also rumored that artist Jean Cocteau drew the main staircase during a visit, a tale that highlights the meticulous attention to detail in the Château’s design and furnishings.

  • 1690-1694: Baron Jacques de la Grange, advisor to King Louis XIV, builds the Château de Courcelles.
  • 1758-1768: The “Demoiselles de Courcelles” settle at the Château, attracting famous visitors such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Voltaire.
  • 1810: Emperor Napoleon meets Marie-Louise, who would become his second wife, in Courcelles.
  • 1917: The German Army occupies the Château.
  • 1939-1940: German generals occupy the Château
  • 1988: Bernard Anthonioz acquires the property from the Jarvis family, owner of “Jarvis Estate Winery” in the Napa Valley.
  • 1989: The Château de Courcelles opens its doors as a four-star hotel.
  • 1992: The Château de Courcelles joins the prestigious Relais & Châteaux Association
