The Château de la Treyne has been a member of the prestigious association of Relais&Châteaux since 1992. It is part of the exclusive collection of the 580 best hotels and gourmet restaurants present in more than 58 coutries.

Since then, we endeavour daily to ensure that this castle remains faithful to the spirit of its founders: a dwelling profoundly marked by History, genuinely hospitable, warmly welcoming and always resplendant.

Converted into a luxury hotel, the Château de la Treyne offers the peace of mind and calmness that the traveler aspires to in their quest for nature and authenticity. The tower so closely overlooks the river that it seems that the castle floats on the water.

Located between the Lot -nicknamed the Land of Wonders- and the Dordogne – home to more than 1000 castles- the Château de la Treyne is an ideal place to stay to discover an exceptional region.

Your stay at Château de la Treyne
Château de la Treyne is a haven of peace and calmness ensuring wellness and zenitude to its guests. In the interior, old massive stones and wood create an unparalled historical atmosphere complemented by precious and comfortable furniture.

Thanks to refinement and care, authenticity and comfort are in perfect harmony at Château de la Treyne.

The formal French garden and its adjoining thriving forest

La Treyne benefits from an exceptional location overlooking the Dordogne River. The Château is surrounded by a large park, embellished by a French garden, with rare species of trees and century-old cedars.

Its French garden, decorated by Medici vases, leads to a wonderful rose garden. At the crossing of the paths, an elegant pond provides freshness which is fitting for this immense natural balcony over the Dordogne. A very large heated infinity pool provides relaxation. A Quick tennis court is likewise at your disposal.

The Château de la Treyne, which is located on a listed site, is surrounded by a 300 acre private forest, with pubescent oaks, typical of the Causse limestone plateaus of the Quercy, truffle oaks, horn beams and box trees.

Numerous paths allow for pleasant walks. Our loyal golden retriever Java might accompany you during your strolls. If you like jogging, the former postman’s walk, hewn in the rock, offers exceptional vistas of the Dordogne.

Our organic vegetable garden
Château de la Treyne strives to reduce its environmental impact. In quest of a lower carbon output and a richer biodiversity, we are proud to announce that since 2018, we employ a permaculture specialist to work on our new ECOCERT certified garden.

A significant portion of our fruits and vegetables now come from our own organic sows. Furthermore, La Treyne is proud to be producing its very own honey, helping spread the preservation effort targeting our precious bees.

Our cuisine is directly inspired by the seasons and the ingredients that surround us. Every dish is carefully designed to accomodate a desire for scrumptiousness and respect for the environment.

The culinary experience at Château de la Treyne thus begins by this quest for a harmonious contract with nature and a profound respect for what it generously provides.

Our History
Since 1982, the Gombert family, native from Aveyron (they hold themselves mere custodian of this beautiful property) strive with passion to keep the castle alive through cultural events (exhibitions, concerts) and share its beauty and history with their guests and visitors.

Philippe Gombert, formerly lawyer at the Paris bar, is, since 2013, the International President of Relais & Chateaux. He continues to manage the annual restauration work of the Château de la Treyne. Stéphanie Gombert, his wife, looks after all the business operations. The couple has three children, Henri, Capucine and Candice.

Inspired cuisine from a seasoned chef
20 years ago Stéphane ANDRIEUX started to reveal his culinary arts at Château de La Treyne. A native of Perigord, born in Nontron, Stéphane prepared his first meals at Angoulême’s Hotel Academy before he joined the brigades of great French chefs like Marc Meneau in Burgundy and Pic in Valence.

It is, however, at the Lion d’Or at Romorantin that he found his true mentor, Didier Clément. Eventually, the student evolved to become his own master, developing his own culinary philosophy.

When he was offered the position of Head Chef in the kitchen of La Treyne in 1998, he was immediately drawn by the flavours of the region. His cuisine, which integrates the fundamentals inherited from gourmet Périgord and Quercy, is highly inventive and wonderfully mouth-watering.

“I love to reinterpret the regional cuisine by working with foie gras, Quercy lamb as well as pot au feu. I like dishes that excite the taste buds incorporating acidity and bitterness”, the chef from the Lot states.

Very soon his culinary arts were acclaimed and recognised. In 2001 Stéphane ANDRIEUX was awarded his first Michelin star. Since then, his presentation of foie gras has become an iconic dish, just as his green asparagus, raw and cooked on their pulp with truffle sauce and his balluchon of poached egg, slightly truffled.

Blue lobster and mullet, expertly prepared and delicately served, are featured on Stéphane’s menu. As far as meat is concerned, the lamb ribs are the most beautiful homage to the ewes of Quercy, just as the beef from Aubrac or the milk-fed Corrèze veal.

Wild pigeon and ducks have the same culinary fate for the ultimate pleasure of gourmets. The restaurant is open every evening from 7:30 pm. Lunch on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and public holidays from 12:30 pm.

Le Grand Salon
The dining room Louis XIII is classifed as a historical monument and is delightful in its majestic old world style.

Two stories high with a huge fireplace with carved wooden surround that extends from floor to ceiling, the room has an ornate wood panelled ceiling, tall French windows and elegant furnishing. Each table and all the serving tables are set with candelabras. The evening sun shines in and the effect is extremely romantic.

The Green Lounge
A unique setting to have breakfast, with views of the formal French garden and the 300 year old cedar. The Lounge features a beautiful fireplace and antique furniture. It is possible to book the whole Lounge for a special private family lunch or dinner.

The Terrace
You can have lunch or diner on the Terrace which overlooks the Dordogne river. With stunning views of the river, taking in nature as far as the eye can see, swallows flying over the river, avid sports people fly fishing and unforgettable sunsets, your meal cannot be but perfect.

A paradise for families and children

All the staff at Château de la Treyne are very happy to welcome families. Rooms and apartments are designed to receive families.

The children will be spoiled : gifts in the room at the time of arrival, specially designed bath products for them, bathrobe and slippers at their size: the children will love it. The Chef will be pleased to prepare a special menu for children.

The Dordogne Valley is a child’s paradise. The National Museum of Automats and Robots in Souillac is nearby – a spectacular museum, always moving, with more than 1,000 automats reliving more than a century-old history of mechanical toys.

Visits the caves of Lacave, the abyss of Padirac, the caves of Lascaux, the Rock of Eagles and the Monkey Forest awaits you in Rocamadour. Visit the Borie d’Imbert, an authentic farm in the Causse of Rocamadour.

Immerse yourself in the end of the 19th century and visit the house of Justine to discover the farm animals and watch cheese making at the goat barn.

An unforgettable Honeymoon
Who would not dream of spending an unforgettable night in a romantic room in a castle, with a four-poster bed, a beautiful view of a river and a vast bathroom with a whirlpool?

Christmas and New Year at the Château
Philippe and Stéphanie Gombert and their team invite you to celebrate Christmas and New Year in a warm and cosy atmosphere. All the public areas are decorated with Christmas themes, candles and stars.

The decoration of the Christmas tree is an old tradition going back to the 11th century: it was then decorated with red apples that symbolised the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Later on, apples, sweets and little cakes were affixed to the branches
