Enriched with antique furniture and period features, it has stayed true to its roots whilst also providing a luxurious setting to rest, meet and play. Now, our Grade I stately home set upon 376 acres of National Trust grounds is a luxurious five-star hotel, ready and waiting to welcome you in.

THE PROFUMO AFFAIR
Cliveden’s most famous affair
With a history peppered with intrigue, our Grade I listed stately home’s most infamous scandal shook the British parliament and played out on these very grounds. The year was 1961.
While the Cold War was slowly chilling British politics, Cliveden House was engulfed in a sultry summer of sweltering heat. Cooling off in the now famous outdoor pool, was Christine Keeler, a nineteen year old mistress of a suspected Russian spy.
Attending a hot mid summer’s party hosted by the then owner Lord Astor, the young woman was one of a few exclusive guests enjoying the luxurious celebrations held within Cliveden House’s magnificent gardens.
Also in attendance was John Profumo, an up-and-coming Conservative Secretary of State for War and husband of well-known actress, Valerie Hobson.
Profumo and Keeler embarked on an illicit affair following their chance meeting at Cliveden House; an affair which was to force his resignation, irrevocably damage the Prime Minister’s reputation, and impact on the course of British politics forever.
50 years has passed since that fateful meeting which was to alter Britain’s political landscape. Discover the scurrilous secrets of the time with our Profumo Affair Break and find out all about how the political establishment finally thawed out.
Our stunning three bedroom cottage is perfect for families, small groups or couples seeking an indulgent and romantic hideaway. Set on the banks of the River Thames, the cottage offers superb living space and private gardens ensuring the utmost in privacy and escapism.

William Waldorf Astor, America’s richest citizen, then gave the house to his son and daughter-in-law, Nancy Astor, in 1906 and Cliveden became a vibrant social hub for guests as diverse as Charlie Chaplin, George Bernard Shaw and Winston Churchill.
The Astor Grill today is a cosmopolitan venue which is steeped in history, its romantic setting offers all the style and legendary hospitality that Cliveden is famous for, and it is the perfect place to escape and enjoy lunch or a relaxed supper.

Take time out for you and your team.
We currently live and work within challenging, fast paced, busy and uncertain times and practising mindfulness enables us to develop a new set of skills to stay steady in the midst of all this.
Mindfulness is a way of training our minds to be in the present moment, through mind body meditation practices, rather than dwelling in the past or being caught up in the future. Over time it becomes a way of life, enabling us how to be more compassionate towards ourselves and others.
Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental well-being. So step away from the meeting room and take time for yourself and your team.
