At the heart of an exceptional wine estate, in the Luberon Regional Natural Park, the Domaine de Fontenille welcomes you in its bastide in Aix-en-Provence, converted into a luxury hotel and its Michelin-starred restaurant.

The series of rooms on the ground floor opens again on the park and the Durance valley, and 19 rooms have been fitted out on the upper floors.

Two restaurants, including a gourmet restaurant, Le Champ des Lunes, welcome both hotel guests and guests. The vaulted cellar of the seventeenth century was transformed into a reception room.

A voyage back in time
An imaginary, dreamlike journey where eras mingle and time stops. A noble, reinvented house dating from the 18th century, protected by centenary cedars, surrounded by springs and woods.

Mirrors reflect back childhood memories and the sweetness of Provence… Family portraits, antique busts and convertibles stand alongside contemporary art. An invitation for a voyage out of time, or at least to another time, traced through the centuries of Fontenille.

Fontenille “Art de vivre”
Domaine de Fontenille’s 19 rooms and suites are all unique : bright rooms facing the gardens, blending different styles, classicism tinged with the warm rays of the South, fluid and poetic contemporary lines.

Most of these rooms face south onto the majestic cedars of the Park and the Luberon hills, some have a private terrace. King size beds, roomy bathrooms, contemporary work of art: everything is designed for comfort in a refined and discreet luxurious environment.

Contemporary art is a constant presence around the Domaine de Fontenille – each room in the hotel is decorated by at least one piece created by an artist shown nationally or internationally. These works of art are either from the owners’ own collection or from artists represented by La Galerie Particulière, Paris-Brussels.

Gastronomy in Fontenille
Our Chef manages the « star-rated » gastronomic restaurant (Le Champ des Lunes), the Bistro (La Cuisine d’Amélie) and the Domaine’s breakfasts menu. He works with the products of the Luberon and with the best local producers.

The decoration of the room and the terraces is refined: tables and chairs « Jean Prouvé » and « Charles Eames » by Vitra, wall coverings in ceram sandstone by Patricia Urquiola for Mutina.

LE CHAMP DES LUNES
nLe Champ des Lunes, the Domaine de Fontenille’s One Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant, offers a modern, produce focused cuisine: respect for the seasons, promotion of Luberon products, quality and traceability which bring the weekly menu to life.

The wine list is particularly focused on Rhone wines, but it also offers the best names from other regions. Small, “favorite” producers rub shoulders with some rare references and prestigious vintages. Prices are deliberately controlled in order to better share our love of wine and wine makers.

The menu is constantly changing depending on the seasonality of products and the inspiration of the Chef. Come and taste our numerous dishes. Mix and match, share your plates, enjoy our Fontenille wines ! Gault & Millau 14.5/20. The restaurant is open 7 days a week from 12.30 to 2.30 pm and from 7.30 to 9.30 pm.

In the heart of Luberon, an exceptional vineyard
In the heart of Provence, overlooking the Durance Plain on the southern slopes of Luberon, the Domaine de Fontenille is among the few provincial proprieties that have retained their original appearance.

Bordered by the Luberon foothills and mountains and the Montagne Sainte Victoire, this country house, characterized by its classical architecture, lies within its landscaped grounds protected by cedars and plane trees, surrounded by wild landscapes and vines as far as the eye can see.

SINCE 1638
Built between the late 16th and early 17th century, the fontenille country house appeared on the cadastral plan in 1638 with 12 hectares of vines.

The property gradually expanded to reach 35 hectares in 1748. Stronghold of the Savornin family from 1640, Alphonse de Savornin added a manor house to the existing buildings in 1850.

The main entrance, ornamental lake as well as the main trees in the park date from this period. His granddaughter, Amélie, continued to develop the park. She was Fontenille’s last occupant before the war.

THE VINEYARD RENOVATION
Laurence Berlemont, oenologist, agronomist and a specialist in Provence wines, began restructuring the Domain in 2013 with the aim of restoring the Domain to its original size: 35 hectares of vines in one geographical area around the Domain.

As an advocate of sustainable farming, the Domain has been converting itself to organic farming since 2014, and benefits from the latest wine making techniques in a new wine cellar with traditional architecture.

The wine tasting shop opens onto Fontenille’s vineyards and cedars. In 2016, the shop will also offer Tasting and Oenology Courses.

THE TERROIR
The Domaine de Fontenille enjoys exceptional terroir. The vines draw their strength from the clay, limestone and stony soil. The slightly steep slopes provide perfect sunshine and better water drainage. The Provence Mistral naturally cleans the grape.

The vine is tended so as to minimize treatments and ensures that the grapes obtain the best possible maturity while respecting natural cycles. Good wine depends primarily on the quality of the grape.

Le Grand Potager at Fontenille

At over 8,000 m2 anything goes. See how vegetables are grown each step of the way and learn about the roles trees, water and beneficial insects play in the process. Get to know the different species of fruit and vegetables, aromatic herbs and flowers.

Discover composting techniques as well as the different phases of waste decomposition and come to grips with how ecosystems actually work and the consequences humans’ actions have on nature.

ECO-GARDENING

Due to the crop diversity available as well as the architecture and elements inspired by permaculture, a visit to the Domaine grounds is not only a pleasant experience but also an educational one, with experimental and educational considerations developed by the Ivory Foundation.

Walks can be organised which focus on farming practices arising from permaculture, agricultural ecology and agricultural forestry with the aim of getting visitors interested in ecological gardening, conservation and the environment.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIMENTAL GARDENING

The Grand Potager (literally the Large Vegetable Patch) is where the fruit and vegetable used in the Domaine de Fontenille kitchens and restaurants are grown (organic only please!).

A wide variety of edible and decorative flowers are also grown, which guests will most likely have seen either in their bedrooms or as garnishing at the restaurants.
