THE HISTORY
Australian family owned, Elysian Retreat is a boutique experience with emphasis on giving people the opportunity to disconnect from their busy lives, and reconnect with the natural environment. Our goal is to provide an exceptional guest experience, ideal for families, couples and friends, along the coast of the beautiful Great Barrier Reef.
Elysian Retreat switched over to 100% solar power on the 16th of April 2019, becoming the first 100% solar powered island resort on the Great Barrier Reef. The switch to solar power saves an estimated 39,420 litres of diesel from being burnt per year plus the additional fuel it would have used to transport the 39,420 litres of diesel to the island via barge.
Considering the burning of fossil fuels is arguably the largest contributor to climate change, we felt that this was one of the biggest impacts we could make in terms of innovation in climate change action.
This translates to 112 tonnes of carbon emissions for the fuel alone, excluding the transport of the fuel, which could easily need four 14 tonnes barges. The roll on effect of transporting this amount of fuel to an island is incredibly hard to determine, but quite substantial in terms of the logistics.
The accomplishment of an eco luxe resort run purely on battery and solar power with clean, quiet, sustainable energy proves that luxuries need not be sacrificed in the search for sustainability.
Over the past 16 years, our dedication to outstanding service, and you, our customer has ultimately seen our ever expanding group grow to include this unique collection of exquisite self catering seaside properties. Our future, also reliant on our staff and our unique properties, will continue to see expansion as demand for tranquil escapes increases.
ROOMS & SUITES
Our accommodation consists of just 10 beautifully appointed air-conditioned oceanfront island villas with both ocean and mountain and rainforest views. Crafted from solid Australian hardwood with high cathedral ceilings. Large windows and private balconies, with uninterrupted water views.
En-suites with shower and organic amenities. Outdoor hammocks, day beds and outdoor showers provide ample opportunity for relaxation. The gentle mineral resort pool water relieves stress and anxiety, detoxifies the body, reduces aches and pains, and induce a peaceful sleep. Elysian caters to children 16 years old and over.
OCEANFRONT VILLA WITH PRIVATE PLUNGE POOL
Our most secluded villa is located furthest from the lounge area and therefore most private, boasting a stunning front and back deck and complete with it’s own private plunge pool. Perfect to hideaway in your own little nestled piece of paradise.

Bigger in floorspace, our Villas with Outdoor Showers also have sweeping views of the ocean and the Conway National Park to the west and rainforest & Long Island National Park mountain to the east.
Complete with an additional back deck featuring outdoor shower, the Oceanfront Villas are the epitome of a laid-back barefoot escape in the Whitsundays and can be booked with one king bed or twin beds.
OCEANFRONT VILLA
With sweeping views of the ocean and the Conway National Park to the west and rainforest & Long Island National Park mountain to the east, the Oceanfront Villa are the entry level rooms, yet still the epitome of a laid-back barefoot escape in the Whitsundays and can be booked with one king bed or twin beds.
DINING
On arrival guests will meet with our host to discuss their taste preferences and dietary requirements. Each meal is an event within itself, with gourmet breakfasts, al fresco or picnic lunches and memorable 3 course dinners.
BREAKFAST
Elysian Eco Retreat’s Breakfast is a daily changing menu starting at 8am, guests can make their way at leisure. Paired with fresh juice or coffee, breakfast is laid-back and a taste of what real island life is all about, with fresh seasonal produce from the garden to your plate.
LUNCH
A delicious al fresco lunch is prepared for guests who choose to spend their day relaxing at Elysian. Alternatively, you can request a picnic hamper to take as you venture out on a day trip.
SUNSET COCKTAIL & CANAPES
Enjoy a beautiful sunset over Conway National Park with complimentary canapes from 6pm on the deck next to the resort pool or around the firepit. Non alcoholic drinks are complimentary.
DINNER
Served from 6pm onwards. The 3 course dinner is hosted in the main pavilion dining room overlooking the ocean and Conway National Park. The dining experience is described as refined, in a relaxed atmosphere and comprises 3 courses. If you are lucky enough to catch something while out fishing our Chef will be happy to prepare the catch for your dinner that night.
Please kindly note that Elysian Retreat is a licensed property and we therefore can not allow any liquor being brought onto the premises. Our manager can store any liquor on your person until departure day.
FROM THE GARDEN
Our chefs daily changing menu is inspired by the natural surroundings of Long Island and the Whitsundays, using the freshest seasonal produce sometimes sourced from the Island’s own vegetable and herb garden and then from nearby surrounding farming regions.
Nearby Bowen is arguably the food bowl of Australia. Fresh prawns, Moreton Bay bugs and wild caught fish are just some of the local seafoods sourced from local fisherman or suppliers.

As much as possible, ingredients are fresh, local, seasonal, sustainable, free range and organic to ensure your dining experience is wholesome, nourishing and comforting.

Your days on the island can include complimentary gentle stretch & conditioning morning sessions on the deck, daily between 7am to 8am. THE GREAT BARRIER REEF

The lookout at Tongue Point is the best spot from which to view the swirling sands of Hill Inlet, so if you don’t mind a short bushwalk, book your Whitehaven tour with an operator that visits the lookout.
