A place in the myth, where every spot has a story to tell or a secret to reveal to the lucky few… You are at the Grand Hotel Cocumella of Sorrento, an island of peace and beauty in the heart of the Sorrento Peninsula.

THE HISTORY
Grand Hotel Cocumella is the oldest hotel in the Sorrento peninsula. This marvelous garden which reaches to the sea, is an enchanting “oasis of the peninsula”.

The ancient cloister and church, its elegant rooms, the silence of its gardens, the spectacular terrace and suggestive coves that descend to the sea, have all welcomed in more than 200 years the most illustrious travelers of the Grand Tour – from Goethe to Mary Shelley to Hans Christian Andersen and Sigmund Freud – and conserve to this day the wonders and the precious heritage of the history and art of all times.

1597
The Jesuits built a monastery in a countryside area with orchards and citrus groves sloping down towards the sea of Sorrento.

1637
Finally, the “Sorrento residence” of the Jesuit Fathers was opened, with a father priest and a brother coadjutor. The building was simple and decent, with a large courtyard surrounded by high porticoes and a well-shaped well in the center, emerging from a vast and deep Roman cistern, which received water from equine games, conducted in terracotta canals through the villages of the Piano up to Sorrento.

On three sides of the portico stood a row of rooms, on the fourth extended a terrace, which it overlooked the garden and offered a wonderful view of the gulf.

1777
The building first became an inn and then a hotel, the oldest recreation and rest station on the Sorrento peninsula.

1978
The skilful restoration has begun by the architect Nino del Papa who has transformed it into the enchanting “island in the peninsula” of our days.

ROOMS & SUITES
The Rooms at the Grand Hotel Cocumella are all different. It’s here that the Gran Tour players or prestigious guests as the writer Hans Christian Andersen, were staying, being Sorrento considered as a necessary step of their journey in Italy.

The boutique hotel has 48 rooms, each one different from the others, with either sea view, garden view or citrus grove view. Choose among Classic, Deluxe rooms, Junior Suites and Suites, which one best meets your needs. Noise, stress and chaos are the words that you will easily forget.

SEA VIEW SUITES

Luxury and comfort is what characterize these comfortable rooms and their spacious and elegantly furnished settings.

The suites give you the possibility to live a unique experience in the ancient five-star hotel in Sant’Agnello. Most rooms have large terraces where you can enjoy a privileged view; some others have an outdoor Jacuzzi. The Junior Suites’ dimensions vary between 35 and 45 sqm, while Suites vary between 45 and 60 sqm.

DELUXE ROOMS
In the nineteenth century Francis Marion Crawford praised Hotels in Sorrento which were considered cutting-edge at that time. A culture of hospitality that since then has never stopped attracting millions of travellers from around the world.

The Deluxe Rooms of Grand Hotel Cocumella are perfectly inserted in the name of this tradition by combining history and innovation. They are spacious and equipped with every comfort. Some floors are decorated with coloured majolica typical of the local handicraft. You can choose deluxe rooms with a garden view or a citrus grove view.

CLASSIC ROOMS
Each classic room has its own peculiarities and retains traces of its distinctive history. Furnished with exquisite antique furniture, overlooking the blooming park or the private church, which is considered among the most beautiful of the Sorrento Peninsula, these comfortable and elegant rooms keep intact the atmosphere of the ancient convent providing all the modern comforts.

DINING
The gourmet cuisine of the Grand Hotel Cocumella is eclectic and varied. Without leaving out the rich tradition of the territory, it keeps always an eye on the new sparks in order to offer you dimensions of experience. All three Grand Hotel Cocumella’s restaurants can rely only on the excellent raw material, coming from its organic vegetable garden too.

SCINTILLA RESTAURANT
Mediterranean cuisine, local specialties and international classics make up the menu of Scintilla, the stylish evening hangout of Grand Hotel Cocumella in Sorrento. Surrounded by the serenity of the park and by the glow of fireflies, guests will enjoy a cozy and intimate location for a dinner by candlelight.

L’AGRUMETO
There is nothing better in the summer than to take a break in the shade of the orange trees. L’Agrumeto, meaning the citrus grove, is located a few steps from the pool, in the heart of the park, the ideal place for a Mediterranean buffet.

It offers dishes prepared with vegetables picked from the nearby organic vegetable garden as well as a selection of traditional Italian main courses, barbecued meat and wood oven baked pizza, one of the most famous specialty of the Neapolitan traditional cuisine.

COKU ROBATA GRILL & COCKTAIL BAR
Coku is the first Robata restaurant in Italy, a new gastronomic benchmark that integrates, in a modern way, two distant traditions: the Mediterranean and the Japanese.

A beautiful location – the Grand Hotel Cocumella terrace overlooking the sea – welcomes guests to enjoy, from sunset, a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Naples. The raw material – rigorously local – is reinvented thanks to techniques and oriental recipes that highlight its valuable and unique quality.

The robata is a particular kind of grid used in the Japanese Cuisine of the northern areas. The cooking method is one of the most ancient of the Japanese tradition: the heat of the griddle permits a very slow cooking of food.

The result is courses with a delicate taste, ideal to bring to the table well-being, simplicity and the unique flavors of the Mediterranean. For customers coming from outside the Hotel, the entrance is in Corso Marion Crawford.

COOKING CLASS
Directed by our chefs, it is ideal for those who want to learn how to cook typical Neapolitan recipes in a fun way, in an informal and stimulating atmosphere.

WEDDINGS IN SORRENTO
The spaces of the hotel can accommodate any kind of event – from receptions to meetings, from concerts to conferences – thanks to five conference rooms, gardens, terraces with a sea view, the tall ship ketch Vera and the ancient Cloister.

Our wedding specialists will take care of every detail to make your wedding unforgettable. Getting married at Grand Hotel Cocumella means to make come true all the wishes of one of the most important days of a lifetime.

During summer, the picturesque sunset on the terrace overlooking the sea, will be a romantic setting for the most memorable day of your life; during winter the refined nineteenth century lounges will give you unforgettable memories in the atmoshpere of a bygone time.

The ancient and striking 17th-century Cloister, these days transformed into a beautiful ballroom, will be the backdrop of friendly and pleasant occasions.

LEISURE
The Hotel Cocumella is one of a kind. You’ll know it as soon as you cross the doorstep and venture into his park. In an instant, time will lose the connotation of urgency and the everyday groove will be a vague memory. You will discover a new time-dimension, closer to the natural beat, closer to the self-care. So the imperative is one: let yourself be brushed by the time.

THE SECULAR PARK
When the building was used for the hotel accommodation, the park was certainly designed following the rules of Romantic fashion: winding and shade-giving boulevards, lawns, pergolas and bright open spaces. Now it is home to a true collection of local and exotic plants.

THE SPA
Following the boulevards of the garden, in a hidden corner, you arrive at the hotel gym and the nearby spa. Guests have free access to both and they can carve out some time for their own well-being. It is possible to request massage programs and face or body treatments and also avail turkish bath, sauna and jacuzzi pool.

THE SWIMMING POOL
Surrounded by the greenery of the park amidst the fresh scent of the orange blossoms, the semi-Olympic swimming pool is the ideal place for a relaxing break in the shade of our orange trees.

THE BEACH
The small stretch of sand is still there and it’s accessible just like the hotel’s private solarium, using the lift or through the picturesque passage carved into the rock.

VERA 1880
Among the most rare proofs of the ancient North European maritime art, the ketch Vera is now one of the most exclusive and ancient ships sailing the Mediterranean. “Vera” is at guests disposal for day tours in the Bay of Naples and along the Amalfi Coast or it can be rented for short cruises and events.

With a careful restoration work of the original rigging – starting from the hand-sewn sails of duradon to the rigging operations with block and tackles , from the hemp ropes to the polished and cozy interior of the ship, Vera preserves the charm of a bygone era, a strong nautical reliability and the professional service of the northern sail-boat.
