We have a couple of courageous pioneers to thank for the Gstaad Palace as it stands in front of us today. It all became possible when a railway line was established between Montreux and Zweisimmen – with a sizeable detour via the farming hamlet of Gstaad.

A visionary village teacher then built Gstaad’s very first luxury hotel, with help from investors in Lausanne. Our Gstaad Palace opened its doors in 1913, and has withstood wind and weather ever since. It’s been quite a roller-coaster ride for this gem of Swiss hotel history, a gem which has been owned by the Scherz family since 1947.

The Gstaad Palace has enchanted guests from near and far for over a century. Not with spells or magic, but with authentic hospitality, genuine family spirit and a long tradition. Our hotel is one of the Leading Hotels of the World.

Part of the Palace’s charm is the beauty of the Saanenland region that constantly amazes our guests. The Gstaad Palace has been owned by the Scherz family for three generations. We invite you to join us and become part of our history in the making!

The Gstaad Palace is just 2 to 2 1/2 hours by car from the international airports in Geneva and Zurich. If that’s not fast enough, a private airplane from Jetfly or Fly7 will get you to Gstaad Airport in not time at all.

The local airport is just 5 km from the hotel. You can also travel in style to the Gstaad Palace by train from all over Switzerland – thanks to the world’s densest railway network. We would be happy to pick you up from the station in Gstaad.

The story of the Gstaad Palace makes for an exciting read. Guests from all over the world flocked to Gstaad when the Palace opened, but the First World War put an end to the boom. After the war came the golden twenties and thirties.

With new tennis courts, a pool and many other amenities, our establishment was all the rage – until another world war broke out and the Palace had to tighten its belt again. In 1938, the Scherz-Bezzola family took over the running of the hotel. The 1950s and 1960s brought a dazzling recovery, with notable figures attending history-making events, until the 1973 oil crisis triggered another slowdown.

The Palace then enjoyed a steady upturn – benefitting from the accomplished leadership of Ernst Andrea Scherz for 33 years. Third generation owner Andrea Scherz has been at the helm since 2001.

ROOMS & SUITES
At the Gstaad Palace, we leave nothing to be desired. Choose from 90 rooms and suites – each with its own signature style and furnished with alpine chic combined with British understatement The materials are exquisite and the views unbeatable. If you like, you can even book an entire floor.

PENTHOUSE SUITE
It’s like in a movie: The fire crackles in the fireplace, the doors are flung wide open to embrace the mountain views, while you relax in a hot tub on the terrace. Life doesn’t get better than this – in our three-bedroom Penthouse Suite.

It’s the mix of high-quality materials that makes the difference: Warm-coloured furnishings in pastel colours, leather and polished wooden floors – our Penthouse Suite is perfect down to the last detail.

The wrap-around terrace means you get the sun all day with views of the entire Saanenland region. The sauna in the turret and the hot tub on the terrace are all yours. It has three spacious bedrooms, two with a steam bath and one with a tub with panoramic views. A private lift guarantees exclusive access.

DELUXE SUITE MOUNTAIN VIEW
Dashes of red and pink mixed with antique pine make this suite stand out and gives it a warm, inviting ambience. Embroidered textiles, hand-painted furniture and home accessories create an aura of elegance and rustic comfort.

Fashionistas can spend hours in front of the mirror in the walk-in wardrobe. And the picturebook panoramic views of the Saanenland mountains are wonderful at any time of day, in summer or winter.

ALPINE SUITE
We take comfort to a new level – which is why our Alpine Suite is spread over two rooms. The furnishings are sophisticated and elegant, combined with high-tech to guarantee your well-being.

Shades of orange, yellow and green provide for an exquisite ambience and add a touch of natural warmth and radiance to your alpine home. Our bathrooms designed with Mediterranean-influenced mosaics are stunning. And from the balcony, you can enjoy the wonderful views of the mountain panorama.

CLASSIC JUNIOR SUITE
“La dolce far niente” is the motto of our Classic Junior Suites. They boast an inviting lounge, where you can simply do nothing in a relaxed atmosphere, whether it’s reading, playing games, sketching – whatever you want.

Enjoy wellness within your own four holiday walls in the luxurous bathroom with a bathtub and shower. And the view from the window towards Schönried could not be more stunning.

CLASSIC ROOM
Treat yourself to some time-out: This spacious room is furnished in a modern, alpine style with loving attention to detail. The bathroom has a comfortable tub where you can enjoy a good soak. It is also worth taking a look out of the window – the rooms afford views of the charming chalet landscape around us.

A SAUCE THAT TASTES LIKE SORCERY
Haute cuisine doesn’t have to be pretentious. We serve honest, authentic dishes using the very best ingredients from the region with a dash of Asian charm, Mediterranean Italianità and international flair. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in The Lobby Bar, or a shared “tavolata” at the «PISCINE».

At the Gstaad Palace, the walls are not made of gingerbread, and we won’t tempt you with poisoned apples. We prefer to treat you to locally grown potato varieties, tender Simmental beef, or curry as served at the Thai court.

That means only using the very best that nature has to offer here in the Alps. Our cuisine may taste like wizardry, but it’s real. You can check your waist size afterwards if you don’t believe us!

WALIG HUT
The Gstaad Palace has leased and lovingly renovated this authentic alpine hut from 1783. A night up here, far from the world, is a dream come true. Our hut warden Maurizo Paglino stirs a fondue over the open fire.

For lunch, he serves slices of cheese and air-cured beef. And in the morning, you can look forward to a proper alpine breakfast. Spend the night in our cosy hut, with only the sound of cowbells to lull you gently into a deep sleep.

LE GRAND RESTAURANT & LA GRANDE TERRASSE
Haute cuisine that lives up to its name: Our internationally renowned chefs reach new creative heights. We don’t serve hocus-pocus, but honest, authentic dishes. As you are browsing the menu, let your gaze wander to the magical mountain panorama. It’s a feast for the eyes!

LE GRILL
Our Le Grill gourmet restaurant is the cream of the crop. Everything in the Rôtisserie is in the very best taste. Awarded 15 Gault Millau points, the restaurant creates dishes that are heavenly, but not just for the stars. International, but made with local ingredients. Watch the chef at work in the show kitchen.

BARS & LIVE MUSIC
Often called Gstaad’s living room, The Lobby Bar in the Palace is a great place to come for tea, an aperitif or a nightcap. Make sure you try the Club Sandwich and other treats. The Bar at the «PISCINE» is equally informal. Share a “tavolata” here en famille.

LA FROMAGERIE
Everybody loves La Fromagerie. Our fondue restaurant is set in a former bunker, where a Swiss bank stored gold bars during World War Two. Today, it serves Saanenland’s gold – in the form of tasty fondue. Raclette is also popular in this restaurant that has enjoyed cult status in the valley and beyond since 1972.

GILDO’S RISTORANTE
Who doesn’t love Italian food? If la cucina italiana is to your taste, then Gildo’s Ristorante is the right place for you. The restaurant is named after Gildo Bocchini, our Maître D’, who welcomed and cooked for many of our guests for 47 years.

GREENGO CLUB
Under the pulsing lights at the GreenGo club, dancing queens and disco kings are in seventh heaven. The stylish interior design is straight from the 1970s. Resident DJ Jim Leblanc and international acts spin the turntables with the latest hits. The beat is on!

The GreenGo is better than any fairy tale. We have everything you need downstairs in the Palace’s green-and-brown basement: classic snacks such as salmon on toast, Croque Monsieur, Penne alla Vodka or Bolognese. There is a wide range of champagnes and vodkas on the menu. Or how about a cocktail?

At 29 degrees Celsius, the water is ideal for swimming lengths. The indoor pool is right next-door to the Palace Spa and is open daily from 8.30 am to 8.00 pm.

JACUZZI

There’s no better place to sweat it out with a view. Trust us, you can believe your eyes – the view of the mountain peaks from our saunas and steam baths is real. After boosting your immune system and your metabolism, lie back and relax in our idyllic outdoor zone or at the fireplace in the lounge.

RELAXATION GARDEN
Take a deep breath – the clean mountain air in Gstaad is a treat for the senses. Enjoy the peace in our relaxation garden, put your feet up on a lounger in the open air, and recharge your batteries with the sound of birdsong in your ear.

SPLASH AROUND IN ART DÉCO GLAMOUR
Since 1928, the «PISCINE» has brought the flair of the Côte d’Azur to Gstaad. This is where the global village meets under the summer sun. The Olympic-sized pool refreshes locals as well as hotel guests. Snacks and cocktails from the bar make for a perfect dolce vita by the pool. The bar at the «PISCINE» serves fresh summer cuisine with cool drinks at the bar or directly to your lounger by the shimmering pool.

ARE YOU THE SPORTY KIND? NOT IN MY WILDEST DREAMS
Is your idea of a holiday finally having time to do sport? We have everything you need to train and keep fit. Your personal trainer is waiting for you. Summer would not be the same at the Gstaad Palace without the sound of a tennis ball being whacked across the court!

At the Gstaad Palace, there are plenty of ways and no excuses to get fit: How about cardio and strength training in the gym, Thai boxing with a personal trainer, Pilates, yoga or Aquafit? You can sweat it out on our tennis and squash courts in summer. Tennis legend Roy Emerson himself will help you to improve your game!

PERSONAL TRAINING & THAI BOXING
Our personal trainers will put together an individual training programme tailored to your needs. Activities include jogging, strength training and Thai boxing, as well as high intensity interval training (HIIT) and balance workouts (BOSU). We are happy to advise you.

YOGA
Take a deep breath, forget the world around you and tune into your body. Yoga and Pilates instructor Ulrike Spitzer teaches yoga and relaxation exercises that work wonders. Say goodbye to stress and tension, and hello to feelings of lightness and inner peace. Namasté!

AQUA-FIT
Aquafit is a holistic form of physical training in the water that is gentle on your joints. It builds up your stamina, strength, coordination and mobility. But best of all, the calories simply melt away. Aquafit gets everyone moving, from couch potatoes to top athletes.

TENNIS & SQUASH
In summer, tennis hotshots can practice their serve and backhand on one of four clay courts next to the hotel. Generations of athletes have swung their rackets here. And if the weather is bad, there are three indoor courts nearby. If you prefer a faster pace, the Palace also has its own squash court.

GYM
Do you want to improve your stamina with cardio training or build up your muscles on our strength training equipment? Take advantage of the high-quality Technogym equipment in our gym – while enjoying views of the mountains. Our personal trainers offer competent advice to help you achieve your sporting goals.

CELEBRATING IN STYLE
Are you planning a fairy tale celebration? We will direct your event from the wings, and make sure everything runs according to the script. Whether for a wedding, birthday party, a major milestone, conference or incentive, the Gstaad Palace provides the setting and guarantees a happy ending.

We do more than help you book a room and choose the menu. Our team of florists provide the festive decorations, our patissier creates the gateau of your dreams, our inhouse hairstylist makes sure your hair is just right, and we can even hire a chauffeur to pick up your guests by limousine.

A SECOND HOME FOR GENERATIONS
We are like one big family, as our guests often tell us. They appreciate the real hospitality in our hotel, our sense of tradition, and – probably our greatest asset – the beautiful Saanenland region. But more than that, the Palace has been in our family for generations. Continue writing our story with us!

Families need space – space to live, play, sleep … Our Superior and Deluxe rooms offer the ideal environment. For even more elbow room, choose one of our suites. If your children are old enough, we recommend two rooms with a connecting door. That way, everyone gets their own realm!

We treat children as VIKs: Very Important Kids. Our young guests can make new friends in the Kids’ Club, supervised by our childminders. From a bouncy castle in the park to the children’s pool in the «PISCINE», or “Saaniland” at the former fire station in Saanen – there’s something here for kids of all ages.

KID’S CLUB
It’s child’s play: Young hotel guests from 5 to 12 years can join in the fun and games with their peers at our Kids’ Club. The programme changes weekly and is also suitable for 3 to 5-year-olds accompanied by an adult. Please note that some activities, especially those involving sports, are only for children aged 5 and over.

CHILDREN IN THE SPA
Everyone is welcome to our spa – including our youngest guests. The spa is open especially for children every Wednesday and Saturday from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm. They should be accompanied by an adult just in case. The same applies to our indoor pool, which is open to children aged 14 and under accompanied by an adult.

SAANILAND
The little white goat Saani is Saanenland’s mascot. She takes our youngest guests to her favourite spots: to playgrounds, sandpits and cable cars in summer, and to toboggan runs, swimming pools, ski school and much more in winter. Visiting the STATION Saanen is ideal whatever the weather – with lots of hands-on activities to make sure there’s not a dull moment!

GSTAAD – A NEVER-ENDING SUMMER WONDERLAND
Lush green meadows and hills that rise gently towards the summer sky, where they culminate in craggy peaks: The Saanenland region really is divine – not just according to local lore. This corner of paradise with space to relax and explore is almost otherworldly – but definitely down to earth.

Gstaad is full of contrasts: with gentle mountain slopes for ramblers, steep inclines for hikers, and wonderful bends for cruising. The only way is up – for fans of paragliding, gliding or climbing.

Alternatively, you can hit a ball around the tennis court or the alpine golf course in Saanenmöser. There’s something for everyone. That’s what makes Gstaad so wonderfully versatile.

Massage jets, therapy lights and rain showers? They’ve all been seen before. But what you won’t get in any hotel is that tingling feeling of a truly invigorating, natural spray of water on your skin.

The three waterfalls – or should we say wild showers – in the Saanenland are 5-star attractions to say the least. What better way to freshen up on your hike than by visiting the Geltenschuss and Tungelschuss falls at Lake Lauenen or the Burgbach falls at Gsteig.

GSTAAD’S SUMMER PARADISE
Practice your backhand on our hotel tennis courts with Grand Slam legend Roy Emerson. Or borrow one of our Thömus e-bikes and explore the five valleys around Gstaad. A hike in the Saanenland in summer will also take you up high. Our Palace hiking guide has the best routes for all levels.

WE MAKE YOUR HOLIDAY DREAMS COME TRUE
Our exclusive experiences combine a stay in our 5-star superior hotel with all its amenities, including our spa, with various attractions. We have tantalising packages for families, fans of luxury watches, guests seeking peace and calm, and sports enthusiasts.

Enjoy a delicious three-course meal with amazing views. Back down in the valley, you can relax in the spa.

FIND INNER PEACE IN THE MOUNTAINS
This experience to find inner peace in the mountains starts with a consultation with our spa experts. It is followed by a massage tailored to your needs, using local plant-based beauty products. Calm your mind and connect with your inner self during this 75-minute treatment.

COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABILITY
The Gstaad Palace was built in 1913 – long before the term sustainability became established. But the drive to act in the interests of nature, people and the environment has simply always been in the Palace’s DNA. We know that the true luxury of our establishment lies in the unique landscape that surrounds it and in the spirit of cordiality that connects our employees and guests.

Our vision is for the long-term – we want to continue welcoming generations of families from all around the world to the Gstaad Palace, so they may benefit from the peace, tranquillity and alpine authenticity of the Saanenland for centuries to come. We’re committed to this. Find out at a glance what we do to ensure that we’re operating responsibly at an economic, ecological and social level. And this is just the beginning of course.
