BLAUSEE NATURE PARK
There are lots of exciting things to discover at the Blausee nature park, a magical landscape spanning 20 hectares that was formed 15,000 years ago by a massive rock fall from the Fisistock mountain.

Leave the stresses of everyday life behind and explore the magnificent nature park next to the Blausee with its attractive forest paths. Ideal for unwinding, recharging your batteries, enjoying the fresh air or simply relaxing.

A short walk of 200 metres through the pristine nature park brings you to the world-famous lake and its crystal-clear waters in the most beautiful shades of blue. The striking surroundings are reminiscent of a fairytale.

Immerse yourself in an enchanting world of gnarled trees and moss-covered rocks and recharge your batteries at this unique source of power and inspiration. Whatever the season, Lake Blau is always worth a visit.

BOAT TRIP
Experience the Blausee from a whole new perspective during summer time. As the glass-bottomed rowing boat glides smoothly over the crystal-clear waters, learn all about this little marvel of nature. Although the turquoise-blue lake is only 17 metres from the Kander river, the waters are different: the Blausee is fed by groundwater flowing from the Kander valley.

The exceptional colour of the water is a factor of its clarity: since only the blue part of the light spectrum is absorbed, this is the colour that appears to the human eye. Tree trunks and boulders immersed as much as 12 metres down appear to be only just under the surface. The glass-bottom rowing boat ride is included in the entrance fee.

WOODLAND PATHS
The Gorge path leads directly to the “Felsenzimmer”- and “Wolfsschlucht”gorges, while the Forst path leads to the lake house and playground. Paths wide and small wind through the park, with a combination of tree roots, stones and soft earth beneath your feet. On your way, you pass imposing firs and deciduous trees, rocks of all shapes and sizes, and moss-covered, unspoiled natural features. The setting here is truly idyllic.

WASSERHAUS
Right next to the Wasserhaus with its WC facilities is the playground with a number of lovely picnic and barbecue spots; firewood is provided free-of-charge until 9 pm. The kids can have fun exploring the spacious nature playground and leave you to unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The giant shingle roof of the Wasserhaus offers shelter if it starts to rain.

ALPACAS & LLAMAS
Pay a visit to the friendly locals! The llamas and alpacas relocate from Aeschi to Lake Blau’s unique Sommerau forest clearing for the summer; they enjoy their time in the beautiful natural surroundings. Visit them in their summer home: they are very tame and like receiving visitors.

BARBECUE SPOTS
Right next to the Wasserhaus with its toilet facilities is the playground with a number of lovely picnic and barbecue spots complete with firewood (the latter is available from the restaurant in the evenings).

The children can have fun exploring the spacious nature playground and leave you to unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The giant shingle roof of the Wasserhaus offers shelter if it starts to rain.

THE BLAUSEE SAGA
Long, long ago, the charming little lake in the upper Kander valley looked different to what it does today. Its water was very much the same as all the other little mountain lakes. But near its shores lived a maid whose heart beat for a young herdsman.

On bright moonlit nights, the two would make their way to the alpine lake surrounded by ancient fir trees and sit on a raft the young man had made to pass the time. Afloat on the silvery water, they passed many a happy hour dreaming their youthful dreams.

Then one day the herdsman tumbled over a cliff as he was gathering hay prior to bringing it down the mountain – and was killed. The maid was inconsolable from that moment on. In the middle of the night, she would go the little hidden lake and mourn her lost love.

Little by little, she began to lose her mind. She paid her parents no heed when they begged her to cease her nightly visits: their unfortunate daughter kept being drawn to the lake by a mysterious force.

One morning, the maid and the raft were found at the bottom of the lake – and its water has taken on a deep-blue hue ever since. People say it’s due to the tears of her unhappy love – the water is as blue as the eyes of the unfortunate maid.

ICE SWIMMING
Hardy souls and tough cookies up for a challenge are in for a treat in early December: bearing in mind the temperature of the Blausee is around five degrees Celsius, you are invited to enter the water and swim a distance of 42 metres across the lake – it’s good for you, and it raises funds for children and young people. Receipts from the Blausee swimming event go to the “Freude herrscht&#8221 foundation, which promotes sport and exercise amongst the young.

DIVING
The bucket list highlight for every diver! During the winter season, certified divers can make an unforgettable dive in one of the most beautiful mountain lakes. Surrounded by hundreds of organic trout, you dive along ancient trees and imposing rocks. A highlight is the stone sculpture at the bridge from the famous Blausee saga.

YOGA
In terms of relaxation, we regularly offer de-stressing yoga retreats – perfect for recharging your batteries in the fairytale Blausee nature park. The yoga sessions include advice on nutrition, meditation and breathing techniques so that you return to everyday life with a renewed sense of purpose.

WINTER MAGIC
Our Christmas market by the Blausee is a must for everyone: the Blausee nature park is turned into a magical winter wonderland. The deep-blue lake twinkles like a jewel in the snowy landscape, while market stalls sell all kinds of little gifts for putting under the Christmas tree. To keep the chill at bay, warming mulled wine is served alongside a selection of good things to eat.

OPEN-AIR CINEMA
Film buffs can look forward to a very special cinema experience every summer: a 17-metre wide screen is erected in the middle of the lake for cinematic delights in the unique ambience of the nature park. In order not to start the film evening on an empty stomach, we offer a pre-show three-course menu, and we’ll even reserve your (rain-protected) seat.

ORGANIC TROUT FARM
The Blausee hosts the ideal source of life for our rainbow- and salmon trouts: The mineral-rich water of Blausee, which also feeds the trout farm, is crystal clear, clean mountain spring water of excellent quality. The unique slow growth of the fish as well as our breeding philosophy, “quality before quantity”, makes the Blausee trout a high-value and pure natural product.

All products of the Blausee trout are available to purchase in our shop, restaurant or via online shop. Interested parties from the hospitality- and intermediate trade please contact us. We are happy to submit a personal offer to you.

BLAUSEE TROUTS
The Blausee hosts the ideal source of life for our trouts: Thanks to an excellent water quality, slow growth of the fish as well as our breeding philosophy, “quality before quantity”, makes the Blausee trout a high-value and pure natural product.

The trout lives a stress-free life in animal-friendly ponds and pools with plenty of shady areas as well as back-and water-flow areas to rest. At the same time, the fish are kept at comparable low stocking densities. Far-reaching ecological requirements protect the water environment.

We strictly reject the preventive use of medicine and the addition of artificial dyes in the feed, which are prohibited. Vegetable feed ingredients come from certified agriculture, the necessary animal proteins are fed through fish meal and oils, which are products of the food and fish processing and are therefore put to use in an ecologically meaningful way.

A designated breeding period of at least 18 months results in a valuable food product of high-quality taste. The mineral-rich water of the Blausee, which also feeds the trout farm, is crystal clear, clean mountain spring water of excellent quality.

The water temperature of the Blausee constantly remains at around 8°C all year-round. Because the Blausee trout grows as slow in our alpine hatchery as it would in the wild, the result is a very solid and tasty meat.
