45 Park Lane is a vibrant beacon of contemporary culture in a luxury hotel. An invigorating blend of art and landmark architecture in the middle of classical London.

45 Park Lane has lived various lives, including one particularly glamorous adventure as The Playboy Club. Nicknamed ‘the hutch on the park’ this was a fashionable 1960s hangout for London’s rich and famous.

You’re our guest, not a room number. As unique as a fingerprint, with your own plans, needs and expectations. Because of this, 45 Park Lane offers an unprecedented approach to service during your stay.

Your very own host will be on hand as butler, concierge and personalised bank of useful knowledge. Think of it as a personal assistant around the clock, offering Dorchester Collection’s excellent standards of genuine care.

Designer Jouin Manku has created a sense of bringing the outside in, referencing artistic flora throughout. Natural timbers and light colour stone encourage a feeling of calm and tranquillity, and areas have been generously arranged to maximise the sense of spaciousness.

Reflecting our hotel’s strong connections with the art world, art curator Lily Ackerman has selected a series of works by American fine art photographer Jin-Woo Prensena and British sculptor Jill Berelowitz to adorn the space.

THE HISTORY
From our origins as Mayfair’s most exclusive 1960’s nightclub to our prime location on Park Lane, discover how we became the London hotel where art meets contemporary style.

  • 1720 – Park Lane was first developed around 1720 and is now the heart of Mayfair, the most prestigious area of London. The road itself was originally a simple country lane on the boundary of Hyde Park, separated by a brick wall. Notable Park Lane residents in the early days included the Duke of Wellington at Apsley House, the Dukes of Somerset at Somerset House, and the British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli at number 93.
  • 1960s – The building dates back to the early 1960s and was designed by Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus school and a pioneer of modernist architecture who also designed the iconic MetLife Building in New York.
  • 1965 – In 1965 the building became the famous London Playboy Club and at its peak it was the most successful casino in the world. Today, the roulette tables have long gone, replaced by our elegant LA-style cuisine scene.
  • 2010 – Dorchester Collection acquired the building and appointed Thierry Despont, renowned architect and interior designer, to transform it into a hotel. It was his creative genius that gave us our distinctive horizontal aluminium ‘fins’ that wrap around the building, giving it an aerodynamic look.
  • 2011 – 45 Park Lane opened as a Dorchester Collection hotel in September 2011 and has firmly established itself as a leader on the London luxury hotel scene.
