One of our favourite things that our guests say is that when they think of Gilpin, they think of love and laughter – ours, and theirs, which is a really lovely compliment.

At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating lasting memories for our guests, who return time and again for romance, celebrations and escapes.

For us, hospitality starts with a very warm welcome and ends with a friendly goodbye, with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences in between. We love Gilpin, and very much hope that you will too.

At Gilpin Hotel all 28 bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens – 6 Garden Suites have their own cedarwood hot tubs, 5 Spa Lodges have their own ensuite spa (rainmaker showers and steam rooms inside, hydrotherapy hot tubs and saunas outside) and 3 even bigger Spa Suites (each with a lounge and dining area, cocktail bar and wine fridge, huge circular stone bath, cedar wood double walk-in shower, spa room with steam room, sauna, infrared lounge bed, and a state-of-the-art automated massage chair, and a bedroom ‘floating’ over the pond with views to the mountains).

If on the other hand you are staying at Gilpin Lake House (a mile away on a separate estate), you can choose from one of the 6 rooms that exclusively enjoy 100 acres of grounds.

With a fascinating history as a centre of the spice trade, Cumbrian cuisine has a rich heritage, and local specialities have long included exotic spices with favourites such as Cumberland sausage, potted shrimps, Grasmere gingerbread, and of course, sticky toffee pudding.

At Gilpin there are two restaurants celebrating this tradition. At the Michelin starred HRiSHi, Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours – modern British cuisine with a twist.

The laid-back Gilpin Spice has an open kitchen serving tapas-style pan-Asian dishes inspired by countries along the spice trail – spanning the Philippines, the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and China.

Our guests visit us for many reasons, often milestones such as birthdays, minimoons, honeymoons, babymoons, anniversaries, celebrations, rest and recovery, romance, spending time with dear friends, and loved ones or simply to awaken the senses.

We set the scene as beautifully as we can, so you can truly enjoy the time together without worry, and create priceless memories. We’ve put together some very special packages with particularly good deals in the winter, for the ultimate in luxury in the beautiful Lake District.

ROOMS & SUITES
At Gilpin we have two hotels on two separate estates, but one team, so your time with us wherever you are should be seamless. Choose between a very chilled out hotel, Gilpin Hotel, or our hotel-come-country-house, Gilpin Lake House.

GILPIN HOTEL
Set in 21 acres, Gilpin Hotel has 28 bedrooms, 2 restaurants (the Michelin starred HRiSHi and the casual pan Asian Gilpin Spice), a Champagne Bar, lounge, terraces, a croquet lawn – and our resident llamas and alpacas!

The Spa Suites, Spa Lodges and the Garden Suites are all at the hotel (not at the Lake House), so if you’re wanting your own hot tub, the hotel is the place for you.

THE SPA SUITES
Designed as the ultimate spa sanctuary for two, at 100 square metres the Spa Suites have a beautiful ‘outdoors / indoors’ spirit, themed décor and a lush display of live plants suspended from a lightwell to create each suite’s own atrium.

With views to the mountains to the west, and tranquil woodlands with a stream to the east, each nestles into the surrounding area with delightful planting behind a beautiful curved Lakeland stone wall.

Every suite has floor to ceiling windows and patio doors opening out onto a gorgeous south facing decked garden with fountain water features, living wall of ferns, and – of course – a stunning 2 metre square stone-built hot tub, all alongside a huge pond.

The main living space is made up of two areas: to the right, a lounge and dining area with a hanging fireplace in the corner window, bar area and wine fridge, and to the left, a beautiful huge circular stone bath, a stunning cedar wood double walk-in shower, and a standout vanity area with inlaid ferns held up by tree trunks.

At the western end of each suite, the private bedroom ‘floats’ over the pond with views to the mountains, whilst at the eastern end the spa room has a steam room, sauna, infrared lounge bed, and a state-of-the-art automated massage chair.

THE SPA LODGES
In January 2016, Gilpin Hotel & Lake House launched five luxurious detached lodges at Gilpin Hotel, each cedar-clad with king size beds, gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulously private en-suite spa along with mood lighting, fires, electric blinds and a state-of-the-art music system – invigorating all of the senses.

The Spa Lodges each have a convertible treatment area, steam room, rain maker shower, free standing oval stone bath, outdoor sauna and hydrotherapy hot tub surrounded by a walled garden – and wonderful views over the gardens to the Lake District moors.

THE GARDEN SUITES
Huge open plan suites with super king size bed and large bathrooms with separate walk-in showers and sumptuous baths.

The open plan lounges have feature fireplaces and patio doors leading to decked gardens with their own cedarwood hot tub. What better way to round off a crisp wintry walk than by sinking into your hot tub – especially fabulous in the winter!

MASTER BEDROOMS
Mostly on the first floor of the original house, our Master Bedrooms are large bedrooms with queen or king size beds, small sitting areas (usually a couple of comfy arm chairs and a coffee table) and garden views.

All bar one of these rooms has a separate bath and shower. All are equipped with flat screen TVs with digital TV, luxurious toiletries, mini bars, tea and coffee facilities with home made biscuits and fresh milk, and a flask of iced water.

GILPIN LAKE HOUSE
Just a mile away from Gilpin Hotel you will find Gilpin Lake House, a sanctuary where just 12 guests enjoy 100 acres of private grounds, with its own lake, boat house, hot tubs, saunas, and swimming pool. With just six bedrooms, the Lake House has the feel of a country house, with all the services of a boutique hotel.

Breakfast can be served to your room or to your table in the conservatory, and lunch and afternoon tea can be taken wherever you prefer. In the evenings our complimentary chauffeurs ferry guests to and from the main hotel to dine at HRiSHi or Gilpin Spice.

Since opening in September 2010, guests have been blown away by the Lake House. Quiet, untouched, and devoid of traffic or people – whether sitting by the fire in the lounge, in one of the hot tubs, Champagne in hand, or in the swimming pool – the views instil a sense of peace and calm.

Set within the grounds, the viewpoint “Cat’s Crag” has 360 degree Lakeland views with a herd of wild deer living nearby. Alternatively the walk around the lake and the gardens can absorb a morning.

For the more energetic, there are some beautiful runs and bike trails, a tranquil swim in the lake, or just mess about on the water in one of our rowing boats.
