Welcome to Boutique Hotel Altstadt Vienna. You can rest assured, you have made the perfect choice. Making you, our guests, happy is our own greatest source of happiness. And how do we go about doing that? Well, we regard it as an art.

The Altstadt Vienna is located on the Spittelberg in Vienna’s fashionable “Boboville” district, in the heart of Vienna. In this venerable patrician house, we offer 62 rooms and suites. Each different from the next. All of them inspiring…

Whether polarizing and courageous, or with a breath of classicism, renowned and up-and-coming architects, designers and artists have offered us their own personal interpretations: of the art of hospitality.

The Altstadt Vienna houses a considerable collection of contemporary art. Whether on loan from big museums or owned by Otto E. Wiesenthal, the works by Warhol, Niki de Saint Phalle, Prachensky, Leibowitz, Attersee, Helnwein et al. have 3 things in common: They inspire. They allow you to dwell in the moment. And pose questions. For us, this is what makes art good.

Located on the Spittelberg in the urbane, creative 7th District, the Altstadt Vienna represents an ideal refuge, simultaneously the perfect base from which to grasp a true sense of what the Viennese take on life is all about.

Whether in our salons or in the classic coffeehouse, there is one thing you should absolutely not allow to slip past you: the chance to savor the ineffable “Gemütlichkeit”, that sense of convivial hospitality that is uniquely Viennese.

THE VIENNESE LIFESTYLE
The rooms and suites of Boutique Hotel Altstadt Vienna are diverse and unique. Designed by world-famous architects like Matteo Thun or contemporary fashion stars such as Lena Hoschek, no living space is like another. Yet all have one thing in common: that famous Viennese “Gemütlichkeit”.

Matteo Thun, Lena Hoschek, Tobias Moretti, Atil Kutoglu, Dietrich/Untertrifaller, Adolf Krischanitz and many more have interpreted the art of Viennese hospitality with us. Learn more about the designers of our 62 individual rooms and suites.

SUITES
No suites are like any other, all unique in design and inviting to dream. Curious now? Browse through our suites and let yourself be inspired.

SUITES XXL
Sometimes you just need more space. For yourself, your loved-ones, or simply for your ideas. With its diverse suites, the Altstadt Vienna is guaranteed to have the perfect refuge for your time of discovery, recuperation or simply of being.

Dedicated to the idea of a peaceful togetherness. Inspired by Le Corbusier, Roland Rainer and even John Lennon. You will sleep amidst iconic design pieces. With friends or family.

With two bedrooms and separate bathrooms, as well as a common living area, our grandest suite offers enough space for your unforgettable stay in Vienna. Oh, not to forget: it features your own private Whiskey Bar.

A spacious suite with an intimate vintage style. Created by Austria’s most successful fashion designer Lena Hoschek. With two bedrooms, a cozy salon with library and even your own little bar. This space is the ideal base for families in Vienna.

All suites of the Altstadt Vienna feature Marshall or Bose bluetooth sound systems, air conditioning, beauty products by Malin+Goetz, Nespresso machine, shower or bath, telephone, mini bar, cable TV, hairdryer, bathrobes, slippers and, naturally, free WiFi.

DOUBLE ROOM
No matter how much space you need: Our double rooms have exactly the right size – and come in Regular, Medium or Large.

Whether from renowned offices such as Dietrich/Untertrifaller or designfunktion, aspiring architects such as Gabriel Kacerovsky or established architects like Elfrid Wimmer-Repp, the Double Rooms Medium at the Altstadt Vienna are as unique as the creative minds behind them.

With 25 m², the Double Rooms Medium of the Altstadt Vienna offer space for your creative time-out in Vienna. How does one confidently bring a building, originally constructed in 1902, into today’s world? By allowing artists, designers and architects to work their wonders. And by not forgetting the houses’ history.

Just as contemporary artworks invigorate the walls of the Altstadt Vienna, the wide variety of rooms and their décor constitute a gallery in their own right. Sophisticated & elegant. Daring & modern. For us, all of these attributes constitute the Viennese way of life.

Whether in one of our contemporary rooms designed by artists and creatives, or in one of our Altstadt classics – all our rooms are as unique as the people living in them. Just because you have seen one, doesn’t mean you’ve seen them all.

DINING
It is rumored that the Altstadt Vienna has the best hotel breakfast in Vienna. We wouldn’t claim that. You are certain to find Champagne and caviar elsewhere. Not here with us. But we do serve the best ham in Vienna, crispy fresh bread, and butter on grandmother’s porcelain butter boat. Simply honest. Simply good.

THE BREAKFAST
Whether it is the excuse of a business trip or yet the city trip to one of the most exciting metropolises in Europe, at Altstadt Vienna you are on vacation. That’s why we let you sleep. And serve breakfast until 11:00, on weekends even until 11:30. And because we don’t want to deny our breakfast to anyone, it is always included for hotel guests.

The best organic bread from Öfferl, delicious fruit juices from Preiß, wonderful muesli from Verival, exquisite coffee beans from Cult Caffe. Only the best from our supplier heroes is served on our plates and in our cups. Of course.

The Red Salon of the Altstadt Vienna invites you to stay and be. Here the day does not end with breakfast. Let us invite you to enjoy homemade cakes and fine tea compositions in the afternoon – and pour you a good glass of wine, Austrian whiskey or our own gin at any time. Of course until late at night.

TEA TIME
Tea. We love its variety. We love its aromas. We love the time you need to take. As a guest of the Altstadt Vienna, we invite you to join us for a cup of tea every day until 6pm. And as the ideal accompaniment to our organic teas by Sonnentor or the tempting tea compositions of Kusmi, Paris, we serve homemade cake and a candybar between 4pm and 6pm.

THE ROOFTOP TERRACE
As cozy as our salons, only in fresh air: unwind on our newly opened green Rooftop Terrace. Caffè Freddo, cocktails by Moby Dick and wall art by Frank Maria.

Come out, come out! Fresh air, sun rays and aperitifs: Our Rooftop Terrace is a green oasis in the middle of the big city and provides jungle vibes above the rooftops of Vienna with its colorful wall painting by artist Frank Maria.

THE BAR
Even though Vienna clearly has a lot to offer, the bar in the Red Salon is an ideal retreat away from the hustle and bustle of this city of a million people and more. Whether you prefer to wind down your day over a glass of Austrian whiskey, or are overcome by a sudden wave of snackiness, we will take care of your every wish.

Oh and did you know that Vienna is the only major cosmopolitan city with its own wine-growing region? Have you ever heard of a “Gemischter Satz”? Or drunk one? We will be happy to tell you more.

THE SUPPLIERS
All the products that find their way onto the plates and into the glasses of Altstadt Vienna we choose carefully. Quality, regionality but also the relationship to the people behind these products are crucial for our choice. Our portrait series “Supplier Heroes” gives insight into who and what passion is behind our favorite products.

MEETINGS & EVENTS
Seminar, workshop, board meeting, press conference, vernissage or pop-up? We provide space for good ideas, creative processes and inspiring encounters. Rooms between 45 m² and 200 m² offer endless possibilities for two to 90 people.

We value individuality as much as fairness and humanity. That’s why we follow the credo of an event without hidden costs. Our food is honest and will not be wasted, we promote young art and your event will be planned and supervised tailor-made. These are not just empty phrases, see for yourself!

CONCIERGE
People are at the forefront of everything we do. You as a guest. But before that, we are also a bit selfish and look at ourselves. Because only when we are doing well do we shine. We are professional hosts, but not robots. Hearty people, but with rough edges. We laugh and cry, we dance and ponder. This is who we are. This is how we are allowed to be.

We do not only cultivate good relationships internally. Also the friendship with dear companions, hotel colleagues, suppliers and our local heroes of the neighborhood enriches our daily work and our relationships. Ready to meet them and to find out, what others have to say about us?

WORK OF ART
Two spacious, light-filled rooms form the basic framework of the harmonious suite. The color palette, a composition of mustard yellow, taupe and fuchsia, is punctuated by timeless designs.

Prominently positioned in front of the large double window, a 1930s desk designed by Josef Hoffmann invites guests to write travel notes by hand. A modern wooden bench from the design house Vitra acts as a clear counterpoint.

The living room is spatially separated from the bedroom by a double door with glass cassettes, as can be found in many old buildings in the inner districts of Vienna. The suite is dedicated to the eldest daughter of the hotel’s founder, Otto Ernst Wiesenthal.

ALTSTADT TOUR
Italian star architect Matteo Thun drew inspiration from the famous Viennese noblewoman Josefine Mutzenbacher and her era, creating eight rooms and a suite at Altstadt Vienna. Its rooms are reminiscent of boudoirs in the wicked style of turn-of-the-century Vienna.

With dark stained oak parquet flooring and wallpaper with damask patterns as a decorative element. This atmospheric density is enhanced by red velvet furniture and chandeliers with Swarovski crystals and marble floors. The result is a sensual, intimate living space which transports the protagonists to the Viennese Belle Epoque.

Matteo Thun is known for his timeless yet innovative designs. He was a co-founder of the Milan-based design group Memphis, founded in the 1980s, and taught design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.

Since 1984 he has been self-employed with his own studio Thun & Partners. Whether product design or hotel concept, his designs can be found all over the world.

The Felix Suite has often served as a backdrop for film and photo shoots. It is not only popular for such purposes, also newlyweds appreciate the large suite due to the extravagant equipment.

The free-standing bathtub on a pedestal is positioned in the bedroom in front of two large box windows. If desired, golden blinds with damask pattern provide more privacy. For even more romance, look no further than White Suite #61.

Elfrid Wimmer-Repp has accompanied Altstadt Vienna since its infancy. Both as a guest and as a designer. Already in 2006 she was on site as executive architect for Matteo Thun and designed eight rooms and one suite. In 2018 we brought her back in house as creative mind and asked her to rethink room #10 and #12.

Istanbul-born and Vienna-based, Atil Kutoglu is confident when it comes to combining the Viennese way of life with Ottoman hospitality. The high-society fashion designer establishes a symbiosis of two worlds in his first interior work.

Viennese cosiness meets Ottoman pomp and yet creates a spatial concept which could not be more harmonious. The pieces of furniture are all custom-made, covered with patterns that evoke associations with Mallorcan ikat and Ottoman caftans.

Reinterpreted and reduced, they get a modern, European touch. Accents in bolus red and bright turquoise – like the headboard made of hand-painted Iznik tiles – further testify to the influence that Kutoglu’s home has on him.

The view from the window, through the silhouette of the Blue Mosque, opens up the beauty of the baroque tower of the Ulrichskirche and finally connects Orient with Occident. Experience another combination of Ottoman and Viennese cultural heritage by drinking coffee in our Red Salon. Or in every other Viennese coffee house.
