HISTORY
The railway to Trondheim, which was opened in 1882 by King Oscar I, became the starting point for tourism in Åre. Hotel Åreskutan was inaugurated in the autumn of 1895, Åre’s first hotel.
The developer of the property was Kristina Hansson from the southern Swedish region of Skåne. She was to become a central figure in the early history of Åre and its development as a prominent tourism hot-spot.
The hotel was further developed already in 1899 with the addition of a society pavilion for the most prominent guests of the hotel. She also ran the post- and telegraph office from within the hotel and was actively involved herself until 1910.
In 1914 the well known hotelier Agnar Meurling took over the business, born on the island of Öland and established restaurant owner in Stockholm. Towards the end of the first world war, he commenced major renovations with the help of architect Karl Güettler and the most prominent developer in Åre, Mårten “Byggis” Ohlson.
The name of the Hotel was changed to Åregården and both the name and character are preserved to this day. It was probably Meurling who constructed the villa in the hotel gardens.
The property underwent the next thorough changes around 1980 when the new wing was added along the hill towards the station, and also 12 smaller residential houses, belonging to BRF Åregårdarna, were erected down towards the road and railway.
To this day the hotel stands as proud in the centre of Åre with as much charm and heritage as it possessed 120 years ago. The Hotel lobby and bar have always provided a central meeting point for Åre villagers and tourists alike.

HOTEL APARTMENT
Classically beautiful and individually furnished apartments inside the hotel. The apartments at Hotel Åregården are 90 sq,m in size and have a balcony appointed towards the sun with views over both Renfjället mountain and Lake Åresjön. Each apartment provides a space comprising two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The apartments offer a full hotel service but also contain a simple kitchen. A perfect space for smaller management teams during conferences or self-catering for a group of friends.
In the master bedroom you will find a double bed which is 180 cms wide and in the other bedroom two built-in bunk-beds in true ski-lodge style. The living-room contains a lounge suite and a dinner table seating six persons as well as an open fire place
MINI-SUITES
The mini – suites at Hotel Åregården provide cosy and very comfortable accommodation in the old traditional part of the hotel. The suite consists of two rooms which are designed in a classical way with beautiful materials resulting in an inviting atmosphere of peace and relaxation
GRAND LIT
The Grand Lit Room at Hotel Åregården is a larger variety of the single room but with a wider bed. In the modernly decorated rooms with exclusive materials you will find a work space with an amazing view over Lake Åresjön as well as of the mountain tops.
DINING
Hotel Åregården boasts some of Åre’s best restaurants under its wings. When staying with us you will always receive world class food and drinks.
Apart from at the hotel, we also have great restaurants in the village where you can enjoy fantastic food and a great atmosphere. When you stay at Hotel Åregården you are able to eat and drink at all of our restaurants and conveniently put it all on the same hotel bill.
THE LOBBY BAR
The lobby bar at hotel Åregården has always been a meeting place with a great atmosphere for the locals of Åre. Here you can sip a fantastic cocktail after a long day skiing, meet for a crisp glass of champagne before dinner, a drink after eating or perhaps both.

In order to give our guests that extra luxurious experience, Hotel Åregården offers a variety of spaces & environments to enjoy. Allow yourself some time to relax in a historic setting that breathes ancient traditions and timeless elegance in our beautiful sitting room. If you prefer a more warming mode of relaxation, we can highly recommend our newly renovated and modern sauna area.
SAUNA, RELAX & GYM
After a long day on the mountains, a time for recreation and relaxation can be desired. In our pleasant sauna and relax area, you can enjoy a space to unwind and find energy together. The shared sauna and relax is located in the downward part of the hotel and was renovated in 2017.
From winter 2020 the area has grown and has a new neighbor by a new hotel gym. Here you can find both treadmill, spinning bike, a cable machine and free weights for guests who wants to work out while away from home.
THE MALMSTENS ROOM
Hotel Åregården’s living-room proudly boasts both original paintings from 1918 by the artist Paul Jonze and interior design from Carl Malmsten’s shop on Strandvägen in Stockholm.
Today one would describe his furniture in terms such as organic and social sustainability. Carl Malmsten himself spoke, in terms true to his era, more of traditions, craftsmanship and the value of the nation.
Skansen and Nordiska Museet (the Nordic Museum) were his most important sources of knowledge, his Akropolis as he called them. Even though his furniture was to a large extent products of their times and ideals, they possess a timeless quality making them as relevant and loved to this day.
