The SPA suite with 60 m² offers all amenities and a modern, individual room design with a balcony overlooking the Wilder Kaiser. It is just a short walk from the cosy relaxation areas in the bath-house to the indoor pool. The Infinity pool provides guests with enjoyable bathing opportunities indoors and outdoors, year-round. Whether it is spring, summer, autumn or winter, with the majestic Wilder Kaiser in the backdrop, every visit to the hotel Der Bär is a leap into pure well-being.

Skiing

Skiing & Snowboarding
Trick-loving board artistes, deep-snow addicted freeriders and sporty piste fans alike are well catered for in SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental. After all the variety-packed, huge selection of routes in the wonderful ski area entices with countless opportunities available for a success-packed winter day.

No fewer than 90 ski lifts and cable cars are available to take you up into the ski area, where 284 very well-tended pistes await. From Ellmau, the widely branching networks in the piste area extend to Brixen im Thale. You will come across any amount of easy, moderately difficult and difficult ski runs, which are guaranteed to make your calves burn.

Anyone who cannot resist the challenging natural snow ski runs away from the pistes in the abundance of winter snow , can make their tracks in the wonderful white while freeriding. Some wonderful routes are just waiting to be tackled by you.

Snowboarders and freestylers on the other hand, will launch into genuine fun jumps in the region’s top fun parks. The superbly adapted and variety-packed fun parks are packed full of obstacles and rails and it is not without reason that this is Tyrol’s best venue for fun and action.

Hiking
The unbelievable peace and tranquillity that you get to enjoy while snow-shoe hiking during a winter holiday in Ellmau, enables the hectic daily grind to recede into the distance. Your snow-shoe hike will be even more breath-taking on a clear, cloudless winter night, when the Milky Way provides wonderful star-packed moments during your holiday.

Cross-country skiing 
Cross-country skiers are accustomed to sending their heart rate sky high. Indeed, faced with some 200 kilometres of very-well tended slopes that are available in SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental, every cross-country skier’s heart will genuinely jump for joy.

The link to the vast slope network is just a few minutes from the sport hotel Der Bär, where you can choose between the Dorfloipe, Kaiserloipe and the connecting slopes. The sun-blessed, natural paradise at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser links the four ‘Kaiser’ towns of Going, Ellmau, Scheffau and Söll, and provides 65 kilometres of tracked routes.

The floodlit night-time slope in nearby Scheffau tempts you to burn off energy all evening. In contract, those who want a little bit of cross-country fun, will not only come across lovely conditions on the leisurely Dorfloipe, but also traditional refreshment stop options, that make every excursion worthwhile.

Meanwhile, real ‘kilometre-eaters’ get to extend their cross-country stint to Aschau or Söll, or raise their heart-rate on so many skating cross-country slopes. Of course, on all the routes there are plenty of inns and guesthouses dotted perfectly along the route.

Tobogganing
Tobogganing is a wonderful experience in the natural surroundings and is a classic way to round out any family holiday in Ellmau in Tyrol. Together with your friends and family enjoy feeling the breeze on your face and put the finishing touches to your winter holiday in the sports hotel Der Bär on a toboggan.

The Astbergbahn in nearby Going takes you conveniently to the start of the toboggan run and you can then speed back down into the valley on the wide, well-tended run.

Those of you who prefer to sit in a toboggan for a little bit longer and who want to combine their toboggan excursion with a little tour, can continue to the Brenneralm and via the Treichlhof to Naschberg. A moderately difficult run, suitable for families, starts there and finishes right at the hotel Der Bär after around 20 minutes.

Winter fun for children
There is no shortage of fun and games for children in the “Wilder Kaiser”, even for the smallest tot. Whether it’s romping in the snow, hazarding their first turns in ski school or enjoying creative programmes that help them to hone their motor skills: in the “Wilder Kaiser”, winter fun for children is guaranteed. Roll up – on the bike in the Wilder Kaiser
The mountains in the Wilder Kaiser seem as though they were just made for being explored by bike. From May through to October gently sloping forest trails and challenging single-trails get pleasure-oriented riders and downhill fans alike out into the natural surroundings, where, as well as fun and adventures in natural surroundings that are beyond compare.

The E-Bike boom has made this bike-friendly area an attraction for cycling fans from across the globe. As part of the world’s biggest E-Bike region, in the Kitzbühel Alps there are more than 70 hire stations available. One of these is located directly in Ellmau and provides excellent E-Bikes at a decent rate.

Once you are on the bike you just won’t want to stop. It is lovely that there are so many variety-packed tours, and getting to the ski lifts in SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental is quick from your sport hotel Der Bär too.

Fans of the medical drama ‘Der Bergdoktor’ should highlight a very special doctor’s appointment in red in their calendar right away. After all, the well-known series, has attracted a television audience of millions since 2008, from Germany to Austria, and is filmed right in Ellmau.

The mountain flanks of this famous rocky massif reveal their rugged and rough sides, and everything that you get to experience around the Wilder Kaiser is so tempting and equally variety-packed too. 5000 years ago the first settlers took up residence in the region and even today the Wilder Kaiser exerts an incomparable allure to all kinds of people.

In terms of tourism, the Wilder Kaiser was tamed in the second half of the 19th century, when the rocky massif was scaled by so many people, and to this day you can still hear all about the myths and legends surrounding this time in the region’s inns.

Apropos: Many guesthouses of that time have become wonderful hotels today, like the gourmet hotel Der Bär for instance, which has so many interesting stories in store for you.

Worthwhile excursion destinations in the region
ELMI’S WORLD OF MAGIC
From May to November Ellmi’s World of Magic invites you to enjoy adventure-packed excursions into the mountains in Ellmau. On fun adventure paths children get to learn interesting things about the region and experience one adventure or another.

WITCHES’ WATER IN SÖLL
The Hexenwasser in Söll is known as a place for explorers, dream dancers, the curious and all those who have not yet forgotten how to be amazed. Here nature with its small and large wonders is in the foreground. Stations, paths and chambers of curiosities can be explored partly on your own, partly under supervision.

From the barefoot path through the stream and meadows, the singing bowls under the witch umbrellas and the witch’s ladder to the sundial hike on the Hohe Salve. Since last summer it has been possible to reserve personal “time with the witch”. During this so-called “HeXpedition” the witches give the guests their precious time and let them help, work or taste at the 5 supervised Hexenwasser stations.

FAMILIENLAND ADVENTURE PARK AND PILLERSEE
Familienland Pillersee adventure park is located in St. Jakob in Haus. In total this park spans an area of 600 m² for climbing and bouldering. Opening hours: Climbing/indoor hall, Dead Sea Salt Cave open Tu and Th 10:00 to 22:00 and Sa and Su 10:00 to 18:00, expected opening family land 20 April.

KRAMSACH FARM MUSEUM
Anyone who holds traditional Tyrolean Alpine lodge style dear will love the farm museum in Kramsach. Lots of old farms have been re-built there, accurate in every detail and they show the realm of work and life in old Tyrol.

MUSEUMS FRIEDHOF KRAMSACH
The ‘Friedhof ohne Tote’ (cemetery with no dead) shows, with funny epigraphs and memorial plaques that people around a hundred years ago had a very different approach to death.

PLANETARIUM SCHWAZ
This space-age experience cinema provides you with variety-packed shows, featuring interactive flights through the cosmos. Tales about the stars, music shows and a wonderful starry sky take you closer to the heavens.

TRATZBERG CASTLE IN JENBACH
Experience a journey through time into the Middle Ages during a fascination ‘audio play guided tour’. Emperor Maximilian I and other aristocratic former owners of Tratzberg guide you through this castle which is over 500 years old and features original furnishings.

SWAROVSKI CRYSTAL WORLDS
The world-renowned crystal brand ‘Swarovski’ shows itself at its most shimmering in Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens. The museum, designed by André Heller, is an impressive excursion destination throughout the year.

KUFSTEIN FORTRESS
For decades, Kufstein fortress was not thought about much by anyone. These days this impressive landmark welcomes culture vultures in particular with its unique range of events.

RATTENBERG
Austria’s smallest town impresses with plenty of Tyrolean charm and a wonderful, medieval pedestrianised zone. During a relaxing stroll discover typically Tyrolean handcrafts.

EBBS RARITY ZOO
Tyrol’s only park has over 500 animals and more than 70 different species. The entire zoo area is wheelchair and pram accessible. The Rarity Zoo is open daily between April and October, from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m..

Anyone who would like to delve a little deeper into glass can watch glassmakers at work in Riedel Glass in Kufstein and discover the versatility of glass as a material.

AURACH WILDLIFE PARK NEAR KITZBÜHEL
Hike through the unspoilt natural surroundings of Tyrol, which includes some 200 local and exotic animals over an area of around 40 hectares. The highlight is the animal feeding time, at 2.30 p.m.

GOING SWIMMING LAKE

SCHWARZSEE KITZBÜHEL
Schwarzsee is a small moor lake in the Kitzbühel Alps. It is the warmest moor lake in Tyrol. Schwarzsee is 2 km from Kitzbühel. In the summer it is a popular swimming lake, while in winter the frozen ice sheets tempt you to go walking, ice-skating and curling.

ELLMAUER FRUIT DISTILLERY
The fruit distillery is located in the district of and is a popular excursion destination for all gourmets. The range comprises spirits, cocktails, brandies and liqueurs. Products can be sampled and directly purchased there.

HORNPARK IN ST. JOHANN
The new climbing forest nestles in the middle of the Kitzbühel Alps. The St. Johann cable car goes up to the Harschbichlbahn valley station and continues to Angereralm swimming lake. From there you get to enjoy a breath-taking view to the Wilder Kaiser.

ELLMAU LOCAL HISTORY MUSEUM
Ellmau’s local history museum, ‘Beim Wegmacher’, was constructed in 1555 as a house for mineworkers. After an eventful past, the building was renovated by a master carpenter in 1898 and today is a traditional museum of local history. The museum is closed during the winter months.

HINTERSTEINERSEE LAKE
From mid-May until mid-September you get to enjoy unadulterated holiday joy at one of the loveliest mountain lakes in Tyrol. During the summer season the Hintersteiner Seebus takes you directly to the lake. Tickets are available in the information office.

FIEBERBRUNN SUMMER TOBOGGAN RUN
Fun on two runners is a huge amount of fun during the day and an evening toboggan excursion on the floodlit runs in Pillerseetal have a very special allure too.
