Hotel Emilia Portonovo

The Hotel Emilia, a white sculpture between the sky and the sea, welcomes you with a unique view of the cliff overlooking the crystal clear water of Portonovo Bay in the Regional Park of Mount Cònero.

From the well trimmed garden equipped with deck chairs and the pine tree wood growing up till the mountain top and then gently descending towards the beaches of white pebbles, you will breathe the perfumes of the sea and the broom flowers, as well as lavender and flowering black locusts.

Born as the fruit of a long family history in 1964, the Hotel has the same name as Grandma Emilia. Here you will find a testimony of past traditions and feelings that Raffaella and Michele love to share with their Guests.

The privileged position of Hotel Emilia is one of the features that will make your holiday a unique one. The Hotel has in fact the privilege to be suspended between the sky and the sea and surrounded by a marvellous private park.

You may be willing to walk barefoot on the lawn, read a book, sunbathe on a wooden deckchair or surf the net through the free and unlimited Wi-Fi service: you can do that. In the garden of the Hotel you can relax and breathe the perfume of grass and flowers, looking at the sea and the sunset colours.

The garden is house to holm oaks, strawberry trees, black locusts, lavenders and olive trees. You will share the park with some friendly little hoopoes and pheasants. At the gazebo you can have lunch in your bathing suit or trunks, allow yourself a snack during the day or enjoy a tasty aperitif.

Emilia is a four star hotel with a swimming pool overlooking the sea of Ancona. The swimming pool is at your complete disposal every day and from there you can also admire the panoramic view on Portonovo from a privileged position; instead, if you prefer to reach the beaches of Portonovo Bay, the Hotel guarantees a free and comfortable shuttle car service between June 15th and September 15th, at set times.

PEACE & RELAX
The hotel is surrounded by a private Park of 27,000 m2. You can walk barefoot all over the lawn, where a luxuriant grass constantly grows, and find a personal corner where to think, dream, read or be lulled to sleep by the gentle breeze coming up from the sea.

You can lie down under the shadow of holm oaks, strawberry trees, black locusts or Aleppo pine trees and admire the horizon, trying to get a glimpse of the nearest Croatian islands. While walking at sunset, you can catch sight of a pheasant, a hoopoe, a hare or other beautiful animals. You can also pick and taste fruits from our trees, such as apricots and cherries.

In the open air, surrounded by the park, directly on the steep cliff overlooking the sea, you will find the big swimming pool – 25×12 m – with a variable depth from 1.5/3.5 m and a summer temperature of water of 28°C.

It is completely in the sun light from dawn to sunset and you can plunge into it or relax there for the whole day. Soft mauve swimming pool towels are at your disposal on the deckchairs under the shadow of big coloured umbrellas. For those who love traditional games, there is a small bocce court to recover an old and popular pastime, and for sport lovers a tennis court is available.

THE HISTORY
Emilia is not the Italian region, Emilia is not a city. Emilia is our grandmother. In 1964 grandma Emilia inspired and supported the construction of the Hotel on a beautiful wheat field overlooking Portonovo Bay and hanging between the sky and the sea.

Over forty years before that date, in 1923, Emilia had already created the first Osteria in the hamlet of Poggio and in 1929the restaurant on the beach of Portonovo, where she prepared the most appreciated moscioli sauce of the town, later on also tasted and loved by Prince Charles of Wales.

She was a countryside woman who offered herself to the sea and then never got back. She was the keystone around which the world of Portonovo was rotating in those years, the point where everyone met, sooner or later, as in a safe and peaceful harbour to arrive at.

Grandma, thanks to her strong presence, contributed to the realization of our mother Elia and our father Lamberto’s dream: building this Hotel. The sincere sense of hospitality and the great passion for art and music have always made this Hotel a unique one.

It is thanks to this passion that in 1966 the Ginestra del Conero Award was created and dedicated to painters, sculptors and writers. Many of the wonderful pieces of art born inside Hotel Emilia between 1966 and 2001 from the hands of national and international artists, are still here nowadays and transform the Hotel into a little modern art gallery.

In 2002 Hotel Emilia opened its door to music, inaugurating a series of concert seasons called Emilia Concerti sul Prato (Concerts on the Lawn) during which Italian and world famous jazz artists perform in the Hotel Park.

Hotel Emilia is the result of a passion that has penetrated three generations: starting from our grandmother Emilia, passing through our mother Elia, our father Lamberto, our brother Maurizio, and today still living in us, Raffaella and Michele.

THE FAMILY
Elia, Emilia’s daughter, and her husband Lamberto are the couple who created this little paradise. Enlivened by a deep confidence into each other and a wide entrepreneurial vision, but always keeping in touch with their roots, their territory and its inhabitants, Elia and Lamberto founded the Hotel Emilia: the result of the hard work, the great passion and the courage characterising this couple and their children, who are still keeping alive the spirit of this place, renovating its charm.

Our best offer is The Royal Suite for a romantic and unforgettable holiday. Located in the highest part of our House, enriched with parquet floors and a beautiful terrace, the suite enjoys a superb and wide view on the Cònero Park and the whole Portonovo Bay.

JACUZZI SUITE
It is dedicated to those who love to give themselves a magic holiday of incomparable comfort and beauty. This wide bright Suite is on two levels, has parquet floors, a living room and a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea. The bathroom, realised in turquoise mosaic tiles, has a romantic surprise for you: an Extra Large Jacuzzi bathtub with a view of the sea horizon.

The bathroom is also equipped with a shower, soft towels and towelling robes, “Gold” complimentary toiletries and a hairdryer. The suite is provided with air conditioning and independent central heating, mini-bar, Lcd TV, safe, phone and free Wi-Fi. The suite size is about 58 m2.

DELUXE ROOM
The Deluxe Rooms are east oriented, they will offer you the wonder of sea dawn and, on some very clear days, you will also see the nearest Croatian islands. Located in various parts of the House, each Deluxe room has its own features.

They are all equipped with a big window or a balcony, a corner with a desk and a little armchair, parquet floors, independent air conditioning and central heating, mini-bar, Lcd TV, safe, phone and free Wi-Fi. The bathroom is provided with a bathtub or a shower, soft towels and towelling robes, complimentary toiletries and a hairdryer.

All these beautiful rooms overlook the sea and from inside you can enjoy a wonderful view towards the infinite horizon, as if you were looking from a ship bow. Their size is about 26 m2.

DINING
The history of our dishes dates back to last century when Grandma Emilia started to cook and became the queen of the moscioli sauce, a typical dish of the Riviera del Cònero we suggest you to try! It is very much loved by the inhabitants of Ancona and also by Prince Charles!

After grandma Emilia, also our mother Elia became synonym with high cuisine and genuine flavours. She received the Michelin Star in 1971 and then she left our young Chefs this legacy, along with curiosity, passion for food research and a refined sensibility in the gourmet taste of her children, us, who are preserving the tradition of healthy and good food.

THE BREAKFAST
A familiar and cosy atmosphere characterizes breakfast time, with all the comforts of a 4 star Hotel. Every morning, starting from the welcoming smile of our waiting staff, during breakfast you will find and share the memories of the past, noticing a special care for the ingredients used, their seasonality and for the needs of the guests (allergies, intolerances and food habits).

You will enjoy a tasty buffet of biscuits, tarts, salty pies and freshly baked breads prepared by our confectionery chef, fresh yogurt and a rich variety of selected jams, local cheeses and salamis, as well as fresh fruits.

A treat more for you is the breakfast chef’s corner, where eggs are differently prepared every day. That is the distinctive feature of the room along with the breathtaking view of the sea, a unique and unforgettable one.

Another important detail is the breakfast setting, faithful to the family love for art. The whole buffet is set on old furniture, design plates, cake risers and carafes: a way to transform the breakfast room and make it different.

THE RESTAURANT
You will comfortably sit at the tables set in the Art Gallery, or on the outside terrace in the garden overlooking the sea when the weather is fine, and we will receive you with a basket of freshly baked bread prepared with homemade sourdough.

Then you can choose from our homemade fresh pasta and discover the fresh products of the sea, simply but originally prepared. Finally you cannot miss a delicious creamy cake made with the best ingredients or a tasting of our sorbets obtained by the fruits of our garden.

In order to pair this generous cuisine, the wine list features the classical products of Marche viticulture together with other renowned Italian wines. With us you can organize any event of yours: a wedding, a special occasion, a meeting.

THE GAZEBO
On the green lawn, between the swimming pool and the sea, stands the wood gazebo of Hotel Emilia. Here you can have a coffee, or a quick and tasty lunch, such as a good plate of pasta, a salad or a sandwich, and you can do that while you are still in your swimwear and barefoot.

We will wait for you at the Gazebo also for a mid afternoon snack, after a day spent on the beach. The Gazebo of Hotel Emilia is also the right place for an aperitif in Ancona. You can relax watching the colours of the sunset over the sea.

In the evening, instead, we will wait for you at the Gazebo to have dinner together on the lawn and under the stars. The Gazebo is dedicated to all of you that love to enjoy their carefree holidays surrounded by nature and perfumes.
