ON MONTESCENA/SCHENNABERG
This intermediate bike tour is recommended for experienced bikers. The tour is manageable in about 3.5 hours, promising wonderful views of Merano and Environs. Follow the paved road from Scena/Schenna to Verdines/Verdins and high up to the farms of Mt. Montescena/Schennaberg.

Shortly before the Taser, turn right to Greitererhof and follow the hiking trail to Egger. Enjoy the fantastic panorama, before continuing on to the Taser high trail until you reach Rabenschnabel (Raven’s Beak).

Here, you find a few challenging passages (with stone steps), before you reach a forest trail, which leads you to a clearing at Gsteirerhof and downhill. The trail leads you past mountain farms back to San Giorgio/St. Georgen and your holiday home in Scena/Schenna.

HIRZER TOUR LIGHT
MTB holidaymakers should plan 5 hours in Scena/Schenna for this tour. It leads from Scena/Schenna via the Riffiano/Riffianer trail down to the Maia/Mais irrigation trail and finally to the cycle path, which takes you to the valley station in Saltaus.

Take the Hirzer cable car up to the middle station to Prenn. Here, cycle on the forest path no. 4 up to the Hochwies restaurant, to the Gompm Alm, and finally to the Hirzer hut at about 2,000 m above sea level.

The descent to Rio di Bosco/Prantlbach begins there, then to Klammeben, to the top station of the Hirzer cable car, and on path no. 40 to the Stafel hut. Via Oberkirn and Unterkirn, you finally come back to the road to Verdines/Verdins and to your base camp for MTB holidays: Scena/Schenna.

SCHENNA CASTLE

His family was also transferred to Scena/Schenna: his wife Anna Plochl from Alt Aussee, his son Franz Graf from Merano/Meran and his wife Theresia Gräfin from Lamberg.

The neo-Gothic building is made of red sandstone, the crypt of granite. In the upper part of the mausoleum there is the chapel of St. John, below the tomb with the white marble sarcophagi.

ÖTZI AND THE SOUTH TYROLEAN MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY
About 5,000 years ago, a man climbed the icy heights of the Val Senales/Schnalstal glacier and died there. In 1991, he was found again as if by chance: with clothing and equipment, mummified, and preserved from the ice – he was an archaeological sensation and a unique snapshot of a Neolithic man.

Today Ötzi, the mummy from the eternal ice and his belongings are in the South Tyrolean Museum of Archaeology and is an absolute highlight for South Tyrolean holidaymakers.

MESSNER MOUNTAIN MUSEUM
The Messner Mountain Museums thematise the defining element of the local natural landscape: the mountains. The six Messner Mountain Museums were designed by Reinhold Messner. Here, the extreme mountaineer illustrates the mountains in their interaction with humans.

Today, the birthplace of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer is a museum that combines the rural tradition of the Val Passiria/Passeiertal with historically significant events.
