Akram Sultan
The German-Indian muralist Akram Sultan has contributed a lot to the design of the rooms in the Hotel Exquisit. He is strongly influenced by the culture of his father, originated in India.

However, in the paintings of Akram Sultan the story “Siddharta” by Hermann Hesse plays an important role. In this story the main character goes his own way, frees himself from social predestination and finally finds himself and Buddha.

His unique paintings decorate the walls of our swimming pool and relaxation area. With the incomparable view of the breathtaking mountain landscape you can enjoy quiet moments and let your mind wander.

Concentrating on the essentials and by reducing the classical forms, new sculptures are created that contain a perfect combination and harmony of traditional and modern elements.

Driving & hiking on the Romantic Road
How would you like it? The Romantic Road can be explored at will. Whether you are traveling by car or motorbike, or a bit sportier, would rather use the long-distance cycle route or even the long-distance hiking trail with nearly 500 km from Würzburg to Füssen – the Romantic Road is well signposted and offers the right track for every type of adventure.

If you go by bike or even use the long-distance hiking trail, then you are closer to nature and can breathe the romantic flair along the route. Of course, you do not have to drive or hike the entire route, you can also use sections to make a trip to past times.

Little fairytale world
It is a beautiful sight and only 77 km (about 1 hour drive) from Oberstdorf away: The fairytale castle Neuschwanstein in Hohenschwangau near Füssen. Like no other magnificent building the castle testifies to the ideals and longings of King Ludwig II.

He had the castle built to create a retreat for himself. He wanted to be able to retreat into his own little fairytale world, into a poetic world of the Middle Ages. A trip to Neuschwanstein Castle must definitely be part of every holiday in the Allgäu.

History of Neuschwanstein Castle
In the summer of 1868, preparations for the construction of the castle began. It is particularly interesting that in September 1869, King Ludwig II had the building plan, various portraits of himself and coins from his reign placed in the cornerstone.

The foundations of the castle are made of cement, the castle walls are made of bricks and the magnificent building was clad with light limestone. Neuschwanstein was opened to the public in 1886 only after the death of King Ludwig II, as the king was very shy and at the end the castle was his personal retreat.

Summer operation of the mountain railways Oberstdorf-Kleinwalsertal
The Bergbahnen (mountain railways) Oberstdorf-Kleinwalsertal are in operation during the summer season from May to the beginning of November. If you are spending your summer vacation with us at the Hotel Exquisit, you will receive a free “mountain railway included” ticket upon arrival.

You can use this for any number of cable car trips on the Nebelhorn, Söllereck, Fellhorn, Kanzelwand, Walmendingerhorn and Ifen. Moreover, the chair lifts Zafernalift and Heubergarena are included in the ticket. There is a generous hiking, biking and active area in Germany and Austria available.

Theme trails & adventure sports
In and around Oberstdorf you will find numerous theme trails that combine hiking with interesting facts, historical information and adventurous moments. Guided hikes with various thematic priorities are also offered.

If you want a bit more action, you can look forward to summer toboggan runs, climbing gardens and high ropes courses, paragliding, Segway tours and white water sports, etc.

The Villa Jauss
The Villa Jauss was built in 1895 by the Oberstdorf innkeeper and master brewer Melchior Jauss. Clear proportions, the square floor plan and the wooden cladding above the entrance testify to Jauss’ love for South Tyrol. Today, interesting exhibitions are held there.

Abbachkapelle, Marienkapelle and Josephskapelle
The three Loretto chapels Abbachkapelle, Marienkapelle and Josephskapelle are only a five-minute walk away from the hotel Exquisit. They are the 10th (and last) station of the Oberstdorf way of the cross, which begins at the Catholic parish church. If you are looking for inner reflection, here is the right place of contemplation.

“Ora et labora” – in the monastery Ottobeuren
“Ora et labora” – in the monastery Ottobeuren: 1200 years of monastery history characterize the Benedictine abbey. The monks in the monastery still live according to the rules of Saint Benedict – “pray and work”.

The Basilica of Ottobeuren is one of the most important constructions of European Baroque. It is famous for its ornate stucco marble altars and Rococo-style interiors.

The music band Oberstdorf
As early as 1833, the “brass music Oberstdorf” was founded, which is referred to as the ancestor of today’s music band Oberstdorf. Today, the band has 45 members who have been passionate about it for years.

Their skills are regularly demonstrated at many concerts in Oberstdorf. Also a youth and wind instruments school is offered over the music band. There, the musical girls and boys are encouraged, challenged and can live out their passion for music!

Artists, painters, poets & co. from Oberstdorf
Surely you have heard of one or the other famous personality, but do you know that some famous artists, painters, poets & co were guests in the Allgäu? We would like to introduce you to some interesting personalities:

Carl Zuckmayer (1896 – 1977): The author and playwright is known for works such as “Der fröhliche Weinberg”, “Barbara Blomberg”, “The Devil’s General” and many more. After the Second World War he was a guest in Oberstdorf several times when he visited his parents who were living in Oberstdorf.

Waldemar Bonsels (1880 – 1952): The writer is best known for the story of “Maya the Bee”. He was a guest in Oberstdorf in 1922.

Johann Strauss III (1866 – 1939): He was a musician, conductor and composer and was the nephew of the waltz king Johann Strauss. In the summer of 1932 he was a guest in Oberstdorf and stayed in “Haus Johanna” on Mühlenweg road.

Richard Strauss (1864 – 1949): The musician and composer is known for his operas “Salome”, “Elektra”, “The Knight of the Rose”, “Arabella”, “Ariadne on Naxos”, “Daphne”, “Der Friedenstag” and many more. Richhard Strauss was a guest in Oberstdorf in 1926.
