For example, our “Smaragd” (Grüner Veltiner and Riesling wines) take you on a short journey to “Wachau,” the beautiful Danube Valley in Lower Austria.

Wine has been made here for hundreds of years – and only the best wines from the sun blessed vineyards may be called “Smaragd”. The word Smaragd comes from the German name for the European green lizard, who feels right at home amongst the vineyards – just like the vines …

Each of the wines that are stored in our cellar has its own story. Our sommelier knows all of them and is always happy to recommend a wine that goes perfectly with your meal. Or he is also available for wine tasting in our wine cellar (included in some packages).

HIKING
Thanks to our delicious Karwendel vitality breakfast you will be perfectly prepared for your hiking tour. Just put your rucksack on, tie the laces on your hiking boots and you are all set to take off and explore the hiking paradise on our doorstep.

In the Rofan and Karwendel mountains you can hike as far as your legs will take you. The network of hiking trails stretches across 500 kilometres: an immense and breathtaking hiking paradise which has even been awarded the mountain trails seal of approval by the State of Tyrol.

From gentle trails for enjoyable walks to Alpine summit tours … all ability levels are well catered for here.

WALKING
Cows grazing lazily and impressive mountain ranges in the background, gentian growing in the pastures, Alpine roses blooming, enchanting Alpine huts – and at the centre: the emerald green beauty of the Achensee lake.

With each step you will marvel at the unforgettable views. If you are lucky you might even catch sight of chamois and golden eagles on the summits of the Karwendel mountains …

If you want panoramic views without the effort of climbing to the top simply take a cable car, which takes you straight from Pertisau (952m above sea level) up 500m further to the Zwölferkopf summit.

Inhale the mild air, get moving and admire the magical views. This is a perfect way to refuel on natural energy. How you choose to move is entirely up to you – either gently or more strenuously while hiking, climbing, Nordic walking or jogging (along around 200 km of signposted running trails) … and if you need refreshing afterwards, why not take a dip in the Achensee?

Rucksacks and hiking sticks are provided and will be waiting for you in your room (rental is free of charge). We can also provide you with hiking tips and can take you along our favourite routes on group hiking tours in the Karwendel mountains. Simply choose your favourite room for an unforgettable hiking holiday.

BIKING
Among the 250 km of well-signposted cycle paths on our doorstep you are sure to find a trail that is just right – no matter if you prefer a gentle bicycle ride or want something a little more demanding. Beautiful natural landscapes line your route.

This cycling paradise is the Achensee Region surrounded by the beautiful nature reserve of the Tyrol limestone Alps and the Rofan mountains with its unique Alpine flora. Plus, many of the routes offer views of the magnificent turquoise waters of Tyrol’s largest lake.

GENTLE TOURS
Those looking for light cycling tours will love the cycle path along the bank of the Achensee and can take a detour into one of the romantic side valleys. The Achensee cycle path is part of the Via BavaricaTyrolensis cultural cycle route which continues to the Inntal in one direction and to Munich in the other.

GOLF
Just a few hundred metres from Das Karwendel – your wellness home at Lake Achensee in Pertisau – you will find the picturesque Golf and Landclub Achensee. This is the oldest golf course in Tyrol and fits perfectly into the beautiful regional landscape of lake and mountains.

The golf course is perfectly maintained, with ancient trees, water hazards, traditional wooden huts and incredible views of the Karwendel Mountains and the Achensee. Sitting at an altitude of approximately 1000 m, this is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the Alps. The terrain meanders gently and helps create a challenging opportunity.

The 18-hole, par 70 course can be enjoyed by guests at Das Karwendel with a 20% discount on green fees. The covered driving range, which includes a chipping and putting green, is an ideal training area for players of any standard.

The newly designed course, with all the facilities you might expect, will make your golf holiday perfect. training greens, pro shop, rental equipment, trolleys, electric golf buggies, etc. are all provided to enhance your experience.

TENNIS
Do you like to take to the tennis court to get rid of any pent-up energy and to enjoy a bit of healthy competition with friends? This is also possible during your holiday in Pertisau! Despite being small enough to get to know very quickly, the village of Pertisau on the Achensee is very diverse in terms of the adventures, activities and sports on offer.

Just a few steps away from Das Karwendel – your wellness home at Lake Achensee – you will find beautifully maintained tennis facilities. You can play here both indoors and outdoors: 6 outdoor clay tennis courts and 2 indoor courts (with granulate surface) await you.

WINTER HOLIDAYS
Holidays on the Achensee in winter have a special allure with snow covered mountains surrounding the emerald green lake and small villages that seem to disappear under a white blanket of snow. On the Achensee in Tyrol you can enjoy a holiday in an idyllic winter wonderland.

Snow crunching underfoot with every step and glistening in the bright sunshine; icicles hanging from rooftops that are covered in a blanket of snow. It’s a fairytale world. In and around the Achensee and Karwendel mountains this winter wonderland is particularly beautiful.

Along more than 150 kilometres of cleared winter walking trails you can experience a winter landscape like no other. Winter strolls along the banks of the Achensee and in the Karwendel Alpine park are a must!

The gentle slopes of the Karwendel valleys are just a stone’s throw from Pertisau. In winter you can enjoy this unique nature reserve without being disturbed. In the winter months the valleys are closed to vehicles.

A walk in the snow through the magnificent tranquillity of the Karwendel valleys, with your loved one, can be one of the most romantic natural experiences you will ever have. A walk to the remote village of Steinberg am Rofan (about 1 hour away along an illuminated path in the dark) is particularly idyllic.

A number of mountain lodges invite you to experience true Tyrolean tradition with a drink and Tyrolean snacks. For example, you could try the quaint Gernalm or the Alpengasthof Falzturn (both approximately one hour from Das Karwendel – your wellness home at Lake Achensee) – and the Gramaialm (two hours away).

If snow shoes remind you of the seven-league boots mentioned in fairytales, then just imagine how far they could take you! There would be no mountain too steep, no path too far.

In fact, thanks to modern snow shoes you will by able to pick up quite a pace, and these “magic shoes” mean that you can access just about everywhere. March up and down the mountains as often as you want, while at the same admiring unspoilt natural panoramas and the spectacular Achensee lake.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING 
Ski right alongside the Achensee, with the magnificent Karwendel mountains as your backdrop. Enjoy breathtaking vistas in which amazing shades of blue and white colours make it appear too beautiful to be true. You will struggle to find a more spectacular cross-country skiing location.

You can marvel at this special beauty while gliding almost silently along the trails at you own pace. At the same time, you will be doing your body the world of good by gently improving your strength and stamina. If you are looking for more intensive training, there are also a number of cross-country training slopes available.

You can set off right on the doorstep of Das Karwendel – your wellness home at Lake Achensee in Pertisau. 250 km of prepared trails, which have been awarded a seal of approval, cater perfectly for all cross-country skiing fans.

Most trails have 4 lanes and are away from the roads in the Karwendel nature reserve. Cross-country skiing is guaranteed throughout the winter thanks to three snowmaking machines.

In Pertisau there is a fee of € 4 per day for the use of the cross-country trails. As a guest at our hotel on the Achensee you get to use them free with your blue guest card (bus pass). You can pick up your guest card at the reception desk of Das Karwendel – your wellness home at Lake Achensee.

ALPINE SKIING
The Karwendel cable car takes you effortlessly from Pertisau straight up to the ski slopes. Up here you can ski with magnificent views of the wintry Achensee and the Karwendel mountain range … unbelievable beauty.

If you are not a confident skier, you can practise safely on the wide and gentle slopes of the “Zwölferkopf” mountain. This helps to make the small yet beautiful Karwendel ski resort also ideal for families!

Those who are not fans of Alpine skiing can simply soak up the sun on the terrace at the cable car station and admire the spectacular views. Another tip for beginners: the snow covered fields on the edge of Pertisau are special training slopes.

The five ski resorts near the Achensee have around 30 ski lifts and offer fun on two skis along a total of 58 kilometres at an altitude of up to 1,900 metres.

With pistes for all ability levels, from easy to demanding, fun is guaranteed at two of the Achensee ski resorts in Maurach and Christlum. And the fun parks also mean that snowboarders get their money’s worth too. We would be happy to help you plan your skiing holiday and to arrange skiing lessons for you or your children.

TOBOGGANING
You will struggle to find a more entertaining way to get down the snow covered slopes than on a sledge … winter fun is guaranteed, no matter if you are with your children, your partner or with friends.

Close to the valley station of the Karwendel cable car you will find the natural toboggan run in Pertisau. The run starts at the Pertisau tobogganing hut. The half hour climb is an enjoyable winter stroll. You can also get to the top with the “Rodelexpress”, a tractor with a trailer which leaves on the hour.

In the tobogganing hut you can enjoy a hearty snack, tea and grog to warm you up – as well as great views of the Achensee. Then, rent a sled and speed off down the hill! A tobogganing party under a starry sky is a particularly special experience. Night owls will enjoy the floodlit toboggan run in Pertisau which is open until 11 pm.

SKI TOURS
A bit of authenticity – discover the feeling on a ski tour at Lake Achensee. That feeling when you conquer the mountain with touring skis. Step by step through the snow. Then marvel at the panorama of the Karwendel & Rofan Mountains from above. And then: a fantastic downhill run in the deep snow of the Tyrolean Alps.

FAMILY HOLIDAY
The holiday activity programme at the Achensee Kid’s Club is a huge hit with our younger guests: On day one your children can take part in a hunt for the pirate’s treasure in the lake, while other days offer activities such as pony rides and learning to read tracks.

During the adventure day at the waterfall your children can “fly” through the gorge, while they will also be busy searching for the missing “Bartl the frog” ….

ADVENTURES FOR CHILDREN
From the beginning of July until early September, Mondays to Fridays, 6 hours per day, children ages 4 to 11 can enjoy exciting experiences and adventures in and around the Achensee. The meeting point each day is right opposite from Das Karwendel – your wellness home at Lake Achensee. Simply tag along and have fun!

ACTION FOR TEENAGERS
Children ages 12 to 16 can experience pure action thanks to theAchensee youth activity programme: from canyoning and Segway tours to adrenaline rushes in the high rope course. The youth activity programme is not free and you must register your child’s participation by 5 p.m. on the evening before (at the tourism office opposite our hotel).
