SURROUNDINGS
Le Tsuba Hotel is near the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Elysées in the typically Parisian 17th arrondissement. It is only a 7-minute walk to Charles de Gaulle Etoile metro station, giving you easy access to sights across the city, including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay.

ARC DE TRIOMPHE
Only 600 metres from the hotel, the Arc de Triomphe stands at the top of the Champs-Elysées, in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle (Place de l’Etoile).

This iconic triumphal arch, which is adorned with intricate sculptures, was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to honour his armies, with construction completed in 1836.

Climb 284 steps to the top and you’re treated to panoramic views of the city’s boulevards, rooftops and well-known monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and the Grande Arche de la Défense.

A museum within the arch chronicles the structure’s history. A flame is relit every evening to remember the unknown soldier buried in a vault beneath the arch in 1921. The Arc de Triomphe stays open late, so be sure to return after dark to take photos of the city’s sparkling evening lights.

EIFFEL TOWER
Visible from the hotel’s higher floors, the Eiffel Tower is a 20-minute ride on bus 92. The city’s iconic monument was built in 1889 to commemorate the centenary of the French Revolution. If you’re feeling energetic, you can follow a winding staircase from the bottom to the second floor.

Pause at the first level where you can walk on a transparent floor and peer down to the ground, 57 metres below. From the second floor, a glass lift whisks you to the top, where sweeping city views greet you.

Once you’ve filled your camera with panoramic shots, treat yourself to a glass of bubbly from the Champagne bar. Also at the top, you can explore Gustave Eiffel’s office or enjoy a bite to eat in the buffet or full-service restaurants. Use the hotel’s free WiFi to book tickets online before you go.

MUSÉE D’ORSAY
On the banks of the Seine, less than half an hour by metro from the hotel, the Musée d’Orsay showcases mainly French art produced between 1848 and 1914.

Housed in a cavernous former railway station, the museum displays a huge collection of Impressionist works, along with sculpture, photography, architectural drawing and decorative arts.

After admiring paintings by such celebrated artists as Cézanne, Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh, take your pick from a choice of lunch spots. In the restaurant, you can sit down for a traditional French meal on brightly coloured chairs beneath chandeliers and a soaring ceiling.

Or head to the Café Campana, designed by the Brazilian Campana brothers, for Parisian brasserie fare. Café de l’Ours serves light lunches and snacks. Save time by buying your museum tickets in advance online using the hotel’s free WiFi. All visitors enjoy free entry on the first Sunday of each month.

CHAMPS-ELYSÉES
Le Tsuba Hotel is only a short walk from the top of the Avenue des Champs-Elysées. Lined with smart restaurants, nightclubs and upscale boutiques, the city’s best-known boulevard connects the Place Charles de Gaulle (Place de l’Etoile) with the Place de la Concorde.

You can have fun with interactive exhibits at the Palais de la Découverte science museum or browse flagship stores such as Banana Republic and Sephora. Go out for meal at L’Atelier Renault or people-watch from a streetside café.

The avenue closes to traffic on one Sunday a month, leaving pedestrians and cyclists to meander freely. On Bastille Day (July 14), a military parade takes place here.

Later in the same month, cyclists race to the finish line on the final day of the Tour de France. Free WiFi along the Champs-Elysées makes it easy to share your holiday moments.

THE LOUVRE
Reaching the Louvre from the hotel is easy, as it’s less than 20 minutes away by direct metro line. Art lovers can gaze at a massive collection of Western works dating from the Middle Ages to the mid-1800s, along with a vast array of artefacts from ancient civilisations.

Altogether, you can view around 35,000 artworks, which are housed in a former royal palace that was also home to France’s heads of state until 1870. Look out for masterpieces such as the “Mona Lisa” and “Venus de Milo”, and snap selfies in front of Pei’s glass pyramid.

Explore the Islamic art gallery in the Visconti Courtyard, which sits beneath a contemporary glass canopy designed by architects Mario Bellini and Rudy Ricciotti. For greater insight into the museum’s exhibits, pick up an audio guide (available in several languages) or sign up to a guided tour in French or English.

NOTRE-DAME CATHEDRAL
Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, Notre-Dame Cathedral is 30 minutes by metro from the hotel. The vast Gothic structure sits on the Ile de la Cité in the middle of the Seine.

You can wander round on your own to gaze at the cathedral’s architectural details, colourful stained glass and huge collection of paintings and sculptures. Or take a free guided tour.

If you have a head for heights, climb the towers for panoramic views across Paris and a close-up look at the roof, spire and Emmanuel bell, the cathedral’s largest. An archaeological crypt reveals ancient city ruins.

The cathedral treasury is packed with mostly gold liturgical artefacts spanning centuries. Free organ recitals take place on Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Did you know that road distances from Paris to the rest of France are calculated from the cathedral?

SACRÉ-COEUR
It’s half an hour by metro from the hotel to the Sacré-Coeur Basilica, which towers over the city from the top of Montmartre in northern Paris.

Built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this massive, domed Romano Byzantine-style church was constructed from Château-Landon stone, which reacts with rainwater, turning it white.

A highlight is the huge, colourful apse mosaic, depicting the risen Christ along with saints, popes and historical events. The climb to the top of the dome rewards you with panoramic views across the city and beyond.

From here you can see the bell tower, which houses the enormous Savoyarde bell. At the foot of the dome steps, look for the church’s foundation stone, laid in 1875. On Sundays, listen out for the 1898 pipe organ, built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll for a chateau in Biarritz and installed in the Sacré-Coeur in 1919.

GALERIES LAFAYETTE
In Paris on a shopping break? Make a beeline for Galeries Lafayette’s flagship store on Boulevard Haussmann, less than half an hour by bus or metro from the hotel. Whether you’re hunting for fashion, homewares or gifts for your children, this vast department store has an enormous choice.

You need to cover the entire first floor to browse the full range of designer fashion labels. If you have kids in tow, head straight to the fifth floor, where they can go wild discovering the toy section while you pick out top-of-the-line children’s clothing from brands such as Baby Dior, Burberry and Catimini.

Stock up on chic interiors in the home furnishings department, then pause for lunch in one of several restaurants, including a seafood eatery, ice-cream parlour and Asian takeaway. You may find your mouth watering again in Lafayette Gourmet, where you’ll find international fine foods.

LOUIS VUITTON FOUNDATION
The eye-catching Frank Gehry-designed Louis Vuitton Foundation is a 30-minute stroll from the hotel and sits amid greenery in the Bois de Boulogne. Begin by wandering around the outside to take photos from all angles of the unusually shaped glass roof, created with overlapping sail-like sections.

Inside, the 21st-century building houses an extensive modern and contemporary art collection, and hosts a regularly changing programme of temporary exhibitions. As well as gazing at art, you can capture shots of the city from the building’s terraces.

Nursery-rhyme and storytellling tours engage younger visitors, who can also try their hand at creating art at family workshops during French school holidays. Musical masterclasses and recitals take place in the foundation’s auditorium.

Browse art and architecture publications in the bookshop and take a break for French and international dishes in the restaurant.
