Blessed with a marvellous landscape in a privileged and fascinating setting, a short distance from the centre of San Vigilio di Marebbe, Hotel Mareo is the perfect place for a refreshing stay in the Dolomites.

It is an area with a long hotel tradition, permeated by a bond with its land and a love of nature. This little mountain hotel wishes to pamper its guests with a genuine smile and valuable tips. A place to rest, disconnect from everyday life and find valuable equilibrium.

The owners’ warmth, the tasty cuisine, the enticing wellness area, the authentic materials and the elegant and refined ambience are our heartfelt invitation to wellbeing and harmony.

Nature is an integral part of the Hotel Mareo atmosphere. The Dolomites’ natural heritage is evident in every detail. The shapes, colours and materials tell the story of Val Badia, while breathtaking views accompany your break from any environment.

With their passion, friendliness and hospitality, the Clara family and their staff are there to assist you during your holiday and make you feel at home. This hotel is surrounded by nature, with fairy-tale views of the Dolomites. A short walk from the town centre, close to the Kronplatz slopes and the best hikes.

Close your eyes and allow your mind to wander, reopen your eyes and be delighted by the majesty of the Dolomites, by the woodlands and meadows, by the snow-covered slopes of the Kronplatz and by a breathtaking interplay of shapes and colours.

Warm and welcoming, the house bar and the lobby area are the ideal place to spend pleasant evenings in the company of friends and hosts. The historic Hotel Carmen of San Vigilio was upgraded in 2018 with a new wing, changing its style and name.

A welcoming scenic hall, a relaxation room overlooking the outdoor swimming pool, a modern dining room and the elegant design of the new rooms are the distinguishing features of the new Hotel Mareo.

THE HISTORY
The history of Hotel Mareo as well as the Clara family relationship with the world of hospitality began in 1968. This was the year in which Pire Clara bought the small holiday home “Ciasa Carmen” that he would transform, with dedication and sacrifice, into the Hotel Carmen in San Vigilio di Marebbe.

Immediately after, Pire married Caterina Ellecosta, with whom he had three children: Lucia, Filippo and David. The Hotel Carmen became a popular destination for people staying in San Vigilio over the years, which allowed them to expand and renovate it several times.

Guests witnessed a constant improvement in services owed to the Clara family’s wish for innovation and listening to the needs of their guests. The latest expansion, in 2018, was the hotel’s new, modern wing. It also provided the opportunity to change the name to Hotel Mareo Dolomites.

“Mareo” is the Ladin name for the valley San Vigilio occupies: Marebbe. Today, the second-born Filippo manages the hotel with great enthusiasm, supported by his wife, three beautiful children and his parents’ experience.

The hotel’s philosophy and values remain unaltered, despite the substantial changes. Hotel Mareo Dolomites guests are welcomed into an authentic family atmosphere, where the most important service provided is the friendliness and warmth of its people.

A STRATEGIC POSITION
At the foot of the Kronplatz, surrounded by bright green meadows in summer and by romantic snow in winter, the Hotel Mareo Dolomites is in a strategic and privileged position, overlooking the town of San Vigilio di Marebbe.

Whether you’re looking out from the balcony of your room, relaxing in the warm pool water, enjoying one of the many culinary delights or having a coffee in the garden, you will be constantly surrounded by idyllic natural views.

The imposing Piz da Peres, Sas de Crosta and Monte Paraccia, the fir and larch forests of the Piz de Plaies and a splendid view of the village delight your every morning and evening.

The hotel’s secluded location ensures peace and quiet during your stay, while still being close to the centre of San Vigilio di Marebbe. You can get to the town centre, with its shops and the imposing parish church, in just a pleasant 5-minute walk.

You can reach the nearby ski slopes on foot, in just 10-15 minutes, as you have the option of leaving your skiing equipment stored in the Miara Ski Area. Alternatively, Pire, the owner of the hotel, can drive you in the hotel shuttle, and take you comfortably to the slopes of the Kronplatz.

During the summer, merely step out of the house to find hiking and mountain bike trails. The nearby bus stop allows you to reach Pederü, the most convenient access point to the legendary Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park and its silvery Dolomite peaks.

THE CLARA FAMILY
The Hotel Mareo Dolomites in San Vigilio di Marebbe offers a warm, homely atmosphere. It is the result of the Clara family’s dedication and passion for hospitality: they have been running the hotel for more than 50 years.

The family has always strived to make their home a place with an authentic, personal feel. Their care and attentiveness are key elements for a relaxing mountain break. Here you can really appreciate the hosts’ love for the South Tyrolean region and for their personal responsibilities in the hotel.

You will always find Filippo and Raffaella available at the bar of the house, to help you organise your days in Val Badia. If you want to taste some good red wine or arrange a skiing lesson, you can always turn to Filippo, the owner of the house and an enthusiastic sommelier and expert ski instructor.

Catherine and Pire’s daily dedication to the house’s vegetable garden is undoubtedly the reason why the aromatic herbs and the vegetables used in the hotel’s restaurant are always so fresh. Caterina is a custodian of ancient Ladin recipes, the happy cook of a few of the delicious traditional dishes.

Pire is responsible for transforming the Hotel over the years, into the welcoming and valued place it is today. With a deep knowledge of the Dolomites, he will be the one to drive you to the ski slopes at the wheel of the shuttle bus. You can have a chat with him at any time and receive valuable tips on things to do in San Vigilio.

We would also like to applaud all the staff who embrace the hotel’s philosophy, and who work daily with the Clara family to make the Hotel Mareo a place you will want to return to, and where you’ll enjoy memorable experiences.

ROOMS & SUITES
Going to sleep and waking up with panoramic views, breathing nature in your very room and experiencing the pleasant sensation of being at home.

The spacious balconies of the rooms at Hotel Mareo overlook the village of San Vigilio or the surrounding mountains. In the background, skiing slopes snake through wooded peaks that fade into the whiteness of the Pale Mountains.

A natural context of rare beauty that is reflected in the rooms, where precious natural materials are used along with a typical alpine style, the warm colours of the fabrics and the scent of local wood. Pure sensation of comfort for a beneficial rest.

4 comfortable room types (22 to 45 sq m) in contemporary or rustic-traditional style. They are all furnished with natural materials and equipped with a bathroom with shower or bathtub, hairdryer, bathrobe, satellite TV, minibar, safe and of course a large balcony with breathtaking views of the Dolomites.

APARTMENTS
Two comfortable apartments in the nearby hotel annex, furnished with fir wood in traditional Tyrolean style. We recommend them for those who wish to be independent while on the Kronplatz, while having all the facilities of a hotel. A surcharge is charged for breakfast and dinner.

DINING
Sit down at the dinner table and indulge in the mountain and Mediterranean flavours of a cuisine with an unmistakable flavour, served with a friendly smile in front of spectacular panoramic views.

Chef Walter Daverda pays tribute to the best local culinary tradition, but also draws masterfully from outside the tradition, paying special attention to the regionality and seasonality of the ingredients. From the traditional dishes of Ladin and South Tyrolean culinary culture to a revisiting of the great classics of the Mediterranean diet.

The Chef’s cuisine loves surprising, is rich in flavours, balanced and attentive to nutritional values. A constant search for top quality raw and organic ingredients supplied by local farmers, fresh vegetables Pire and Caterina’s garden, and special care in the preparation make Hotel Mareo’s restaurant quite unique.

Every day starts with a regional breakfast buffet, while the surprisingly varied, refined, light and on request also vegetarian 4-course menu is accompanied by a starters and salad buffet.

The traditional “Stube” are part of the South Tyrolean rural culture and are the perfect setting for a gourmet holiday in the Dolomites. They reflect the love for our land and our family’s hospitality. Sit back and enjoy a bit of South Tyrolean life.

THE BREAKFAST
The culinary experience at Hotel Mareo rightly begins with breakfast, which is very important to us. Wake up and gaze at the pastel-coloured Dolomites, while the sweet aroma of an abundant buffet awaits you in our cosy breakfast room.

While the first rays of sunlight warm up the room through large panoramic windows, the aroma of coffee, the fragrance of freshly baked bread, the delicate homemade cakes and the sweet essence of honey and organic jams linger in the air. There is never a shortage of alpine cheeses, tasty local cold meats, fresh eggs, croissants and many other regional delicacies.

We offer a rich and satisfying breakfast to actively tackle the days in the Dolomites, paying particular attention to quality and various nutritional requirements. A moment to be savoured sweetly, to awaken your senses with gentleness and pleasure.

LADIN CUISINE EVENINGS
The kitchen at Hotel Mareo uses only homemade produce, just as the humble Ladin cuisine used to do. All dishes were prepared with genuine, natural ingredients, mostly from the South Tyrolean territory. This is still the philosophy of the hotel, which once a week organises an evening dedicated exclusively to Ladin cuisine.

Waiters in traditional clothing and alpine music accompaniment are an ideal frame for the simple tultres – pancakes filled with spinach and ricotta – or the cancì checi, cooked personally by Signora Caterina.

Balotes, zigher gnoch, crafuns mori, cütles da pom and puncerli are just some other names for Ladin dishes that will echo in our traditional stube during the evening.

We also mustn’t forget panicia, a delicious barley cream that has always been prepared following grandmother’s recipes, or a succulent pork shank that used to be cooked only for rare and special occasions.

THE BAR
The bar of the house has always been a welcoming meeting point, where you can have a chat and a taste of the houses’ grappa. A traditional, romantic environment, where you gather around the fireplace at dusk, with the crackling of flames and a hot drink. Our bartender Remy, with his passion for the mountains, will be able to satisfy all your tastes with his fantastic creations.

Along with the hotel’s lobby area, this is the right place to ask for advice on the Kronplatz area, organise your excursions and various daily activities. The Clara family loves spending their time in these communal areas, and is always on hand for a valuable suggestion.

Browse one of the books on the mountains and Ladin culture in the little house library, rest on the comfy sofas inside, on the scenic terrace or in the garden, out in the sunshine and in the gentle breeze of the mountain air.

THE WINE CELLAR
Flippo, the owner of the Hotel Mareo, is the house’s Sommelier and the protagonist of the Hotel’s “Cianea dal vin”. He will guide you through the South Tyrolean wine heritage, among scents and secrets of the top wines stored in the cellar.

A selection of the best bottles of the Trentino Alto Adige and Italian areas with some fine international wines. More than 250 labels chosen over time, and with great dedication, to enrich your culinary experience, enhance the flavours in your meal or for a meats and cheeses tasting in the atmospheric wine cellar.

THE HOME’S ORGANIC GARDEN
The dishes offered by Hotel Mareo Dolomites only use the finest ingredients from controlled areas. When the season allows, the house’s vegetable garden becomes the largest supplier of vegetables for Chef Walter’s kitchen.

Aromatic herbs, crispy salads, brightly coloured carrots and courgettes as well as onions, potatoes and green beans are all grown in the hotel’s organic garden, lovingly and carefully maintained by the hosts Caterina and Pire.

Highest quality organic ingredients sourced at 0 km, bringing a touch of freshness and beauty to our chef’s expertly prepared dishes. Also all organic eggs are from our hens.

WELLNESS HOLIDAYS
A place of peace for a wellness holiday at the foot of the Kronplatz, where idyllic nature around you conveys harmony and light-heartedness.

Enjoy a rose-tinted Enrosadira sunset from the warmth of the outdoor swimming pool, regenerate with the panoramic saunas, relax in front of a crackling fireplace and indulge in the scent of pine wood. Soft lights, relaxing notes, a good herbal tea and everything will feel immediately lighter.

THE SWIMMING POOL
We couldn’t help but bring a piece of our wellness centre outdoors, in the vast green spaces that surround the hotel, with enchanting views of thick woods and the charming village of San Vigilio di Marebbe. Where the silver peaks of the Dolomites can be touched by hand.

The new heated outdoor swimming pool reinforces our hotel’s feeling for nature and offers our guests a pure wellness experience. Being gently lulled by the water and admiring the play of light at sunset is even more fascinating when the snow has fallen heavily in winter.

It is a place of refuge beyond time, where you can let go of all the worries accumulated during the year: enjoy the physical effort of hiking in the mountains, or the days dedicated to skiing on the slopes of the Kronplatz.

Our miniature water world is also home to the much-loved whirlpool tub. Soaked in the pleasurable temperature of the water and gratified by the fineness of the bubbles, your skin will shine with new vitality.

THE SAUNA AREA
A path of peace and harmony, a journey of the senses through clouds of steam, invigorating water and hot flushes. The intoxicating scent of essential oils captures and attracts you at the entrance to the wellness centre, while relaxing background music accompanies you while you slip into your bathrobe and choose where to start.

You could start with the warm temperatures and wonderful views of the Finnish sauna, the gentle and powerful warmth of the infrared cabin or breathe in the scent of Pustertal valley alpine herbs in the Turkish bath steam. And to finish off, a lovely, refreshing shower to lower your body temperature.

The cold water of the Kneipp footbath are a real boon to promote circulation, while there are two relaxing areas furnished with fir and pine, a romantic fireplace, soft beds overlooking a snowy blanket and a wide choice of herbal teas and quality infusions to unwind. There is plenty of room to regenerate body and mind, because we know that you have earned it.

A SNOWY PARADISE ON THE DOLOMITES
Immerse yourself in fairytale scenery, in a unique and ethereal atmosphere. Sparkling air, snow-white crystalline blankets and a hushed landscape contribute to making the winter landscape of San Vigilio di Marebbe special.

Although a winter holiday in San Vigilio means skiing to many people, the Ladin village at the foot of the Kronplatz offers many other fun activities to suit everyone.

EXCITING SKIING WEEKS
the most important winter activity on the Kronplatz is, of course, alpine skiing. The ski slopes can be easily reached from Hotel Mareo Dolomites by taking the hotel shuttle bus or a 10-minute walk, making use of the opportunity to leave your skiing equipment at Skiarea Miara.

More than 100 kilometres of ski slopes await you from here, connected to the largest ski area in the world: Dolomiti Superski. The skiing area of Kronplatz is considered the number one ski area in South Tyrol. SUMMER HOLIDAYS ON THE DOLOMITES
The town of San Vigilio di Marebbe is one of the most popular destinations in South Tyrol for a summer holiday in the mountains. The solemn peaks watching over it, the wide green spaces, the charm of the shepherd’s huts and traditional farms, the lively town centre and its Unesco natural park make it a pearl in the heart of the Dolomites. This enviable setting for outdoor activities is a real pleasure.

AN HIKING PARADISE: THE DOLOMITES
Staying in San Vigilio di Marebbe, the closest natural park is the Fanes-Senes-Braies, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. In winter the nature park becomes an important backdrop for mountain skiing, snowshoe hiking and fun sledding down the alpine pastures of Fodara Vedla and Fanes. And yet, summer really brings out the splendour of this nature reserve.

In a unique geomorphological context, the park offers countless opportunities for hiking holidays as well as for mountain biking enthusiasts. In ancient times, the steep peaks surrounding the area looked impenetrable to visitors, producing the legendary world of the Rëgn de Fanes: one of the most beautiful legends in the Dolomites.

Some park trails start directly from the Hotel Mareo Dolomites. Your hosts will be able to advise you on the best trekking for you. Pederü, the most popular access point to the nature park, is easily reached by bus.

San Vigilio di Marebbe also has its own visitor centre for the Fanes-Senes-Braies nature park, where a lot of its secrets can be revealed. And if 25,453 hectares dedicated to hiking are not sufficient, there is the second natural park of Val Badia: the Puez-Odle, just 20 minutes from San Vigilio.

ADRENALINE ON THE ZIP-LINE
Strong nerves and a lot of courage for Europe’s longest zip line, in San Vigilio di Marebbe. Qualified instructors will help you speed through the woods of Hotel Mareo Dolomites, suspended on a steel rope.

MOUNTAIN BIKING & CYCLING

However, San Vigilio is not just for mountain bikes: it has also been a part of the Giro d’Italia several times, while for the less trained, an e-bike rental is the best solution.

RELAXING WALKS
In addition to numerous hiking trails, San Vigilio offers an extensive network of walking routes. From the themed legends trail, to walks among the farms surrounding the village, to La Pli de Mareo, and up to high-altitude walks on the Kronplatz.
