La Palazzetta del Vescovo is a small boutique hotel in the center of Umbria, making it the ideal location for visiting the most important cities in the region. Not far from Rome and Florence, it sits on a hill and boasts a splendid view of the Tiber River Valley.

From 1763 to 1861, it was the summer residence of the Bishop of Todi and in 2000, it was bought by the current owners who fell in love with the beauty of its surrounding landscape.

Completely renovated between 2004 and 2006, it was transformed into a small luxury hotel. Continuously updated to stay in step with modern standards, it has become an important reference point for anyone wanting to spend their holidays in Umbria.

The Palazzetta del Vescovo represents an ideal starting point for discovering some of Umbria‘s most important historical towns such as Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Todi and Gubbio as well as other hilltop villages in nearby Tuscany (Cortona and Siena).

ROOMS
Unique and exclusive, each room yields a little corner of paradise to its guests. Eight rooms are located on the first and second floors of the historic residence while the ninth room is located on the ground floor of the adjacent cottage.

The rooms have all been decorated and furnished differently with carefully chosen colors and materials. Light shades and classic style with an occasional touch of Italian design lend a warm and comfortable atmosphere to the rooms.

All the rooms are spacious with panoramic views and are fully equipped with amenities. Since the main building is a historic residence, it is not possible to have an elevator in it but we will take care of your luggage for you. All rooms are NON SMOKING

JUNIOR SUITE
Two large bright, comfortable and chic double rooms. Our junior suites are classically decorated in pure Italian style with views of the medieval village of Collelungo. The large bathrooms are embellished with precious marble and mosaics and have a bathtub, shower and double sinks. Rooms can accommodate two people and it is possible to add a single bed upon request.

HOSPITALITY
Born in Turin, Paola and Stefano worked for many years as managers in multinational companies, an experience which gave them the opportunity to travel and meet people of different nationalities and cultures.

This helped them formulate the idea of ​​ one day realizing their dream: to create a place unique in its beauty and history; a place where they could welcome guests from all over the world in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

THE FOOD & THE WINE
Get to know the flavours of Umbrian and Italian cuisine through our tasting menu which features carefully selected and predominantly organic locally sourced food. Special menus are available upon request for vegetarians and guests with celiac disease.

The wine cellar, personally managed by Stefano, an AIS certified professional sommelier, offers a vast array of regional and Italian labels from small wine producers with an excellent price-quality ratio.

He will be happy to help you choose the right wine based on the day’s menu while Paola, the chef, will gladly share her family recipes with you. And so, they chose Umbria, the “green heart of Italy”, a region that combines authenticity, tradition and wholesomeness.

Food and wine are Paola and Stefano’s great passions. Stefano, a professional sommelier, will guide you on the discovery of local wine producers, winemakers who are passionate about their work.

He will also suggest the best food and wine parings for your meals. Paola, the chef, always uses fresh, genuine ingredients, which are carefully selected from small local producers who respect and love of their territory, thus giving rise to a simple cuisine with unmistakable flavors and aromas.

THE BREAKFAST
Breakfast is an important moment for us which allows our guests to start their day leisurely and full of energy. You will be greeted by a rich buffet of homemade cookies and cakes, savoury and sweet croissants, fragrant bread, fresh milk and yogurt, muesli and a vast assortment of seeds.

Guests will also be offered eggs prepared on the spot, local cheeses and cold cuts, salmon, fresh fruits and vegetables, juices and healthy smoothies. Our jams are artisanal, made exclusively with organic fruit.

In addition to espressos, American coffee, cappuccinos and a number of other hot beverages, we also offer our guests a rich selection of prestigious Damman teas. Breakfast is served from 8:30 – 10:00 am in the internal dining area or on the panoramic terrace.

THE CUISINE
Our kitchen reinterprets the Umbrian, Piedmont and Mediterranean culinary tradition, using fresh, premium quality raw materials purchased daily. Our suppliers are small producers we have carefully selected over the years.

From this desire to offer only fresh products comes our decision to offer a 4-course menu that changes every day and is based on seasonality and market availability. Dinner is served daily at 8 pm for all guests and is preceded by an aperitif with local specialties.

A pleasant moment for guests to meet and greet, exchange experiences and forge new friendships. During the summer, for those who want to take advantage to relax in the pool, we offer a lunch buffet at 13.00 with salads, cheeses and local cold cuts.

Both dinner and lunch are by reservation. On request, we are happy to prepare vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals for those with food intolerances or allergies.

AFTERNOON SNACKS
We like to pamper our guests so we decided to make fruit, water and soft drinks available for them throughout the day. In the afternoon, guests can enjoy pastries, teas and hot beverages. Available every afternoon from 3 – 6 pm on the panoramic terrace or in the internal dining area.

THE WINE CELLAR
La Palazzetta del Vescovo offers its guests a wide selection of wines to pair with the dishes served in the restaurant. There are currently around 130 labels, covering the most important wine producing areas in Italy.

Of course, the largest space is dedicated to Umbrian producers and the most famous wines and varieties in the region such as Montefalco Sagrantino, Orvieto Classico, Grechetto, Trebbiano Spoletino. The wineries included in our wine list have all been hand-picked by Stefano.

Often, these are small producers who make high quality wines which would otherwise be difficult to discover. The wines await tasting in the large underground cellar which guarantees optimal preservation conditions.

THE GARDEN
Our garden was born out of Paola and Stefano’s love of organic and seasonal foods. The garden is put in whenever Mother Nature deems it and is treated exclusively with organic fertilisers.

Seasonal tomatoes, aubergines, green beans, courgettes, salads and many other vegetables, cultivated with love and care by our gardener, enrich our table every day and are used as ingredients in our cooking, ensuring freshness and quality of our dishes.

THE BAR
At La Palazzetta del Vescovo, we like to maintain the informal atmosphere of home which is why we haven’t created an actual bar. Nevertheless, we will be happy to serve cocktails and wines from our list in a relaxing atmosphere on the panoramic terrace or by the pool. After dinner, grappa, limoncello or a bitter is a must.

With exclusive rental, you can choose your own times, organization and menus according to your wishes. Contact us and we will give you all the information necessary to make your event unique and special. For events and weddings (maximum 30 people), we require a minimum stay of two days.

Alongside her duties as cook for La Palazzetta del Vescovo, Paola will be happy to share her family recipes with you. Alternatively, she can recommend cooking schools that share the same passion and philosophy for good food as we do. Discover traditional Umbrian recipes in a friendly and informal environment.

Rolling out fresh pasta by hand like our grandmothers used to do, making a typical dessert and transforming garden vegetables into a tasty appetizer are just some of the things you will learn during practical and hands-on lessons which are suitable for beginners as well as those who have more experience in the kitchen. Courses are organized by reservation only for a minimum of 2 participants, based on availability.

TRUFFLE HUNTING
A unique and unforgettable experience. An ancient craft. An opportunity to experience the thrill of accompanying an expert “cavatore“, or digger, and his dog as they search for truffles. Enjoy a walk in the woods and discover a way of life made of great love for the land and its bounty.

During the walk, you will also learn useful information on which plant varieties favor the birth of this prized underground fungus. At the end of the trek, you can enjoy a sampling of truffle products and savor the goodness of this “black gold”.
