RESTAURANTS & BARS
Dining is one of life’s pleasures and there has never been a better time to take a seat at Lainston House with a full array of dining experiences waiting for you.

Will you choose our more formal Avenue restaurant, our informal restaurant The Wellhouse serving woodfired dishes, our terraces when the weather is kind and our Drawing Room just perfect for afternoon tea.

WOODFIRED DINING EXPERIENCE
Celebrating the former life of this listed outbuilding, which is also home to Season cookery school, The Wellhouse is bringing a whole new woodfired eating experience to Lainston House, Hampshire and the south of England.

One of the UK’s very few restaurants to have all dishes cooked by woodfire, The Wellhouse is an exciting new restaurant offering unique food, drink and social experience, celebrating the simplicity of woodfired ovens and smokers.

Sat inside the historic rustic-luxe surroundings, you’ll be able to see, smell and taste the delights of woodfired cooking and for those special occasions, you can enjoy private dining in the idyllic outside setting of the vast kitchen garden.

MORE THAN JUST DINNER…
Open just during the evenings, The Wellhouse is the perfect new spot for relaxed dates, families or groups of friends, with fun filled sharing platters making it a social occasion.

You’ll also find local wines, ales and Lainston’s own apple cider, along with homegrown garden-inspired cocktails – including ‘shandygaffs’ – a long forgotten and very traditional English shandy, whereby the ale is enhanced by the option to mix it with a ginger beer top and a shot of kitchen garden cordial!

The Wellhouse is more than dinner, it’s a great night out and truly social occasion unexpectedly found in the grounds of a five-star luxury hotel.

FORMAL DINING IN HAMPSHIRE
Taking its name from the magnificent mile long avenue of lime trees as viewed from your table, the Avenue restaurant is an intimate, elegant restaurant for dinner, enjoying the most beautiful of settings.

Inspired by seasonality, the superb and varied à la carte menu is tempting to all palates and tastes. We have our all day dining available in the Cedar Bar from 12 noon – 9pm each day.

THE AVENUE CHEF’S TABLE
A unique experience to see into the kitchen while you relax at the table, as your six seasonal dishes are prepared for you by The Avenue’s chefs.

Our surprise tasting menu created just for the Chef’s Table, uses the highest quality ingredients from our very own kitchen garden, local fish from the south coast, game from Hampshire and the finest shellfish from Scotland – you will be in for a culinary treat!

Adding to this interactive dining experience, instead of a traditional menu being present at the table, the chefs personally present and describe each dish to you.

Following your tasting menu, you have the opportunity to take a tour of the kitchen where your dishes have been prepared and can even get your hands dirty with the chefs during clean down if you really want to get stuck in!

LUXURY AL FRESCO DINING ON THE TERRACE
When our British weather permits, there is no better place than a table on our pretty, Indian stone terraces to enjoy everything from a glass of Pimm’s to a fine award-winning dinner. Make the most of the far reaching views down the avenue of limes by joining us on The Terrace.

Pick up a picnic, grab a loved one to keep you company, and go and explore our 63 acres of parkland. Formal or informal dining, delightfully fresh, innovative and mouth-watering cuisine is served with a greater emphasis.

THE CEDAR BAR
Step inside and discover comfy leather armchairs, ornate panelling carefully carved by the famous Grindlin Gibbons from a cedar tree that fell in the great storm of 1930 and a welcoming open fire.

Order a glass of whatever you fancy, take a seat and drink in the breathtaking view straight down the avenue of lime trees! Open to hotel guests and local residents, it makes the perfect place to pop into with friends and unwind with a relaxing drink – we look forward to seeing you.

KITCHEN GARDEN
Discreetly sheltered in the grounds of the elegant 17th Century mansion of Lainston House, lies a secret, walled Kitchen Garden which has recently been restored beyond its former glory.

Not only does it supply the hotel’s award winning restaurant kitchen with fresh herbs and vegetables, but the Kitchen Garden is now a charming location for guests to enjoy contemplative, sweet smelling walks and has now become the perfect location for evening drinks or afternoon tea.

The grounds team have built the 4 acre kitchen garden, which now provides 90% of kitchen herbs. Crops of tomatoes, salad, cucumber and courgette, carrots, onions, runner beans, lavender, apples, pears, figs, quince, rhubarb and kiwi fruit plus strawberries and raspberries together with a number of heritage vegetables are on offer.

And right in the centre of the garden, we’ve constructed a large wood burning stone oven and barbecue for pizzas, whole joints and traditional barbecue cooking. Together with a fabulously large oak table, the setting is perfect for getting together with friends to enjoy a glass of bubbly or an informal party!
