Our History
1970’s
In the early 1970’s, Mr Claude Berthier was working as a sales representative for Saint Gobain a French company and for his business activities, he was traveling around the world and notably visited all the African countries.
During his last mission in Africa, he decided to expand his business in the Indian Ocean islands among which was Mauritius Island.
1980’s
In May 1982, further to the demise of Vivian Noël de Roquefeuil, Mr. Lois Levieux and Mr. Paul “Rico” Chasteigner du Mée took over his investment and provided support to the growth of Casuarina.
In 1989 a second phase of construction began with the development of 52 extra rooms. Then in 1999-2000, the hotel was entirely redesigned to reach its actual size of 94 superior rooms and 15 bungalows, still maintaining the same architectural style and the tropical gardens environment.
2000’s
In December 2003, Mauritius Commercial Bank took over the stake of Mr. Lois Levieux and heirs and confidently supported the development of Casuarina. In 2006 the Management decided to introduce a unique experience for body and soul to its guests through the opening of a Balinese Spa.
2010’s
In September 2010, Casuarina became Alizée Resort Management Ltd and launched its second hotel. Le Cardinal Exclusive Golf Resort & Spa was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Sir Anerood Jugnauth.
The 2 hotels are now part of Alizée Resort Management Ltd which main objective is to preserve its heritage and adapt to the evolving needs of its guests. Alizée Resort Management Ltd remains one of the few independent players in the hospitality industry.

If there is a paradise on earth, it is the beach of Trou aux Biches. Ideally located in the northwest part of the island, Trou aux Biches beach is a 3- km- long beach and enjoys a more stable climate than other areas, less watered and less windy.
Trou aux Biches is a world-famous spot for its diving sites where you can discover a wide variety of fauna and flora underwater. Trou aux Biches is also the starting point for boat trips to the northern islands (Gunner’s quoin Island, Flat Island, Gabriel Island, Round Island, Snake Island).
The North of Mauritius is not limited to its magnificent beaches. Inland, the botanical garden of Pamplemousses, created in the eighteenth century by the botanist Pierre Poivre, is one of the most popular sites on the island.
A few meters away you can discover an old sugar factory converted into a museum on the site of L’Aventure du Sucre. This site demonstrates the importance of sugar cane in the history of Mauritius.

The duplex is of 84 m2 (on two levels) with a terrace of 9 m2 on each floor. With its living room and a kids corner on the ground floor, the duplex is well situated for families. The first floor is comprised of a master bedroom with an adjoining bathroom.

You simply cannot miss dining at our restaurant. Our experienced chef Thierry selects his fresh vegetables and fish from the local market and prepares refined tailor-made dishes for our guests.
The smoked marlin cigar stuffed with palm heart and candied lemon served with exotic fruits chutney and salmon roe, and the creole style porc curry served with black lentils fricassee and smoothered country leaves, are a must try during your stay.
This fusion of French and local cuisines will excite your taste buds with its Mauritian spices – flavours that will make you discover and experience the local dishes… The restaurant has its own specifications, its own uniqueness, especially with its opened kitchen, you will feel like you have your own chef.
The restaurant is opened for breakfast and dinner only. Meals are A la Carte.Guests have the option to eat indoors while nature lovers can opt for the deck where they can admire the magnificent view of the bay of Trou aux Biches.

Piano Bar
For an intimate evening, Le Cardinal Exclusive Golf Resort & Spa offers to its clients a piano bar located on the first floor. Clients can either enjoy their cocktails indoors while chatting with the barman or, for more intimacy, they can opt for the tables and chairs outdoors and admire the sunset.
