Hotel Marrol

Marrol’s Hotel Bratislava offer 51 rooms and 3 suites with a spectacular style inspired by the culture and architecture of the 1920s and 30s. Marrol’s is known for its unique interior design, bearing the signature of the renowned interior architect Zuzana Cambelová. Her unique signature makes sure that every detail contributes to the overall atmosphere of perfectionism by using quality natural materials.

Stylish and perfectly personalised. The hotel is currently located in the middle of the junction of the historic Old Town and the unique modern district of Eurovea City, with the first Slovak skyscraper, Eurovea Tower, which, together with other unique architectural works, in connection with the humane urbanism of the Spanish architect Beth Galí, have definitively changed the panorama of Bratislava.

THE HISTORY
Currently, Marrol’s Boutique Hotel can boast of one of the best addresses in Bratislava. This is not only due to its excellent location, just a step from the Danube riverbank and the historic city centre, but also thanks to the landmark architecture of the building itself.

The doors of Marrol’s hotel in this historic building opened for the first guests in April 2003, following a complete renovation of the exterior with conversion of the interior into a boutique hotel.

The renovation has greatly highlighted the charm of the building’s grey-blue facade, enhanced by the central alcove as well as the sculpture of a woman’s head, and flowers in jardinière planters in seven dormers.

When deciding on the hotel’s name, we came upon a story of Mary Ann Marrol, the daughter of a wealthy Scottish merchant, in the archives. Marrol’s Hotel got its name after Lady Mary Ann Marrol, and Lady Marrol’s bust and likeness have become the hotel’s unifying symbol.

A couple of things about Lady Marrol. This emancipated, educated and adventurous lady enjoyed travelling, especially to imperial Vienna. She also visited Pressburg, today’s Bratislava, at the turn of the 19th century. It was here that she made an acquaintance with the family of Antal Marshall, who owned a house and wheelwright workshops on the former Royko-gasse, or Royko utca, today’s No. 4 Tobrucká Street.

On the way from Vienna to Pressburg, the coronation town of the Hungarian kings, a wheel on Lady Marrol carriage broke, and the locals pointed her to the aforementioned family, who were more than willing to help her. While they repaired her carriage, they offered her a guest room.

When she went to check on the progress of the carriage repairs the next day, she saw horses bolting wildly towards a little boy. Lady Marrol didn’t hesitate for a second and grabbed the little boy, jumping out of the way at the last moment, thus saving his life.

As it turns out, the little boy was the nephew of Mr. Marshall who was there on holiday. In gratitude, Antal Marshall named his workshop after Lady Marrol and mounted her likeness above the entrance, which has remained there to this day.

SUITES
Marrol’s offers three exceptional suites. In a timeless design, with three different types of interior decor. The common demoninator for the suites is a combination of exceptional elegance, convenience and perfect comfort.

LUXURY SUITE
The suite is right at the heart of the hotel, on the first floor, with a view out of the French windows and onto the streets surrounding the hotel. This unique space, along with the rest of the Marrol’s hotel interiors, is the work of the accomplished Slovak hotel architect Zuzana Cambelová.

Her refined signature on the hotel will win over even the most discerning of our guests. Cambelová’s sense of elegance, harmony of comfort, convenience and 21st century hospitality are undoubtedly the most striking features she has imbued into this particular suite.

The clever joining of the bedroom and the living area is what gives this suite a sense of great open space. The possibility to open up the space between the two rooms gives the suite an air of freedom, light and grandeur. On the other hand, closing off and separating the bedroom from the living area with the stylish double doors is always a welcome option.

The bedroom with its comfortable “king-size” double bed is connected to a separate and spacious wardrobe, bathroom and separate toilet. The suite’s living area features its own charming nooks and crannies. The moment

you enter the suite, you will be enchanted by the view out of the alcove windows overlooking the street above the entrance to the hotel. Comfortable seating in leather armchairs is complemented by a sofa which can be suitable for restful sleep in this living area.

FAMILY SUITE
You can feel the atmosphere of the cosy, family mood upon seeing the entrance hall to the suite, emanating from the unique artwork of the renowned Slovak artist Ján Ťapák. The work of Ján Ťapák does not end at the entrance either, it accompanies the guests all throughout the suite. Here, our family clientele can find a great substitute for the amenities of their own home.

The area of 86 m² offers everything that makes for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Two separate bedrooms, one with a comfortable double bed, the other with single beds, each with its own bathroom and toilet. A warm living room with an elegant dining table and relaxing leather armchairs next to the sofa bed unify the diversity of the space and give it the real character of a cozy home.

What makes the family suite different from the other Marrol’s suites is that it is the only one featuring a kitchenette, fully equipped to cater for your masterful culinary creations. The apartment is intended not only for longer stays, but also for family weekend stays or shorter trips spent wandering around magical Bratislava.

The family suite is located on the fifth floor, the top floor of the hotel, with nothing and no one to disturb your stay. The floor is occupied by only a few hotel rooms, the PC and Fitness Room. The view to the diverse rooftops of the surrounding buildings stretches all the way to the nearby city centre.

GARDEN SUITE
The Marrol’s garden suite is full of charm and elegance. The interior, seamlessly connected to its very own garden patio, is a treasure of the hotel in the centre of Bratislava. It offers the extremely satisfying feeling of calm beyond your expectations.

The uniform retro style of the interior ties together all the different parts of the suite found on the 42 m² floor area and the 50 m² garden patio. This suite likewise carries the signature of our hotel’s two exceptional personalities, the artist Ján Ťapák and the architect Zuzana Cambelová.

The living area of the suite receives plenty of natural daylight via the exclusive entrance to the outdoors, the vast swathe of greenery and flowers on the garden patio. The double bedroom and a sofa bed in the living area provide for comfortable sleeping. The living area creates an open passage with the bedroom and adjoins a uniquely charming and stylishly furnished large bathroom with toilet and bidet.

The comfort and stellar amenities of the garden suite are only complemented by the separate spacious wardrobe located in a closed off space by the entrance to the suite. Our garden suite is the perfect place for honeymoons, celebrating important anniversaries and birthdays, as well as for all your pleasant travelling experiences.

DOUBLE CLASSIC ROOM
The timeless elegance, comfort and convenience of these double rooms guarantee a pleasant hotel stay, away from the hustle and bustle of the city and the mundane everyday activities. The possibility to choose rooms according to the view they offer, either to the surrounding streets or to the hotel’s garden patios, adds even more value to your stay.

Great and highly recommended selection of different types of rooms at Marrol’s. Comfortable rooms with a touch of luxury in a 5-star hotel, sophisticated scents of L’Occitane toiletries, natural wood and leather furniture, and original artwork by Slovak artist Ján Ťapák.

RESTAURANT HOUDINI
This restaurant’s menu, marked by the style of the young and creative chef, Michal Škrabák, reflects the influence of European cuisines. Houdini gradually focuses on Slovak and Central European meals and original recipes made from ingredients of the season.

Meals are prepared not only with the passion of a man passionate about his profession, with respect for the gifts of nature, but also through the use of modern food processing technology (sous vide), which brings new surprising tastes and flavors and enables their preservation and underlines their taste and nutritional qualities.

LIBRARY BAR
Leave the noise at the door and sink into the leather armchairs in the relaxing gloom of the Library bar. Order a good whiskey or maybe a mixed drink. To be alone for a while in the quiet company of books or to have a pleasant conversation with friends. Soft music, a selection of drinks and a simple bar menu.

GARDEN PATIOS
A hidden oasis in the middle of Bratislava. For those guests who seek the harmony and beauty of nature even in a hotel, the Marrol’s central garden patio will be the perfect place to just relax and unwind. It is truly unbelievable that such a place exists right in the city centre.

A secret oasis. Many of our rooms overlook the treetops in the carefully maintained garden patio, and we encourage our guests to spend their time there relaxing with a book or a cup of coffee.

The second oasis at the hotel is hidden in the garden patio with its private access from the Garden Suite. On the area of 50 m², the patio offers the possibility of comfortable seating for breakfast or dinner, surrounded by greenery and the scent of flowers in summer.

The third hidden gem is part of the hotel’s own Jasmine SPA. The private entrance to the patio can be refreshing during the hot summer months. In winter, it is tempting to enjoy this natural space of the patio to cool down in between staying in the sauna. Marrol’s garden patios are truly the hidden treasures of Bratislava.

JASMINE SPA
If you are looking for relaxation at the end of a busy day visit our jasmine spa. It is the oasis designed to replenish the mind, body and spirit. Minimum stay 2 hrs. Jasmine SPA is open exclusively to the person who booked it and his/her guests. Maximum capacity of the spa is 6 people. Jasmine SPA is ALSO for the non- hotel guests.

FITNESS
Marrol’s small, well-equipped fitness room on the top fifth floor of the hotel with various exercise equipment is accessible to hotel guests under the conditions set out in the Operating Regulations. Access to the fitness room is free of charge.

A full range of free weights and benches is available for those who prefer to exercise without machines. Both a stationary bike and a stepper are available for more active movement. Exercise equipment includes mats for Yoga and Pilates, a fitness ball and wall ladders.

BICYCLE RENTAL SERVICE
Bratislava offers hundreds of kilometres of cycling routes. If you didn’t anticipate this way of exploring the surroundings of your temporary home, we have bicycles available for you to rent, and for the little ones, children’s scooters as well.

From the shortest cycling circuits in the Old Town, through the Danube promenade along the embankment next to the beautiful blue Danube, across riparian forests, you will reach the inspiring Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum. There really are many ways to explore the beautiful surroundings of Bratislava.

ART IN THE HOTEL
The unifying signature of the hotel’s artwork – Ján Ťapák. Ján Ťapák, an academic sculptor from Bratislava, has been inseparably linked to the hotel since its opening in April 2003. His artistic touch has left its imprint on the outside entrance to the historic hotel building, but also penetrated deeply into its interiors.

Lady Marrol’s bust, the likeness of a woman with flowing hair and the smile of one who has found happiness, has become a symbol of the hotel. Her sincere, joyful smile will uplift each guest arriving in the lobby.

The same optimism also springs from a trilogy of oil paintings. The individual works are marked by optimism, as Ján Ťapák said in his memories of the commission for the Marrol’s Hotel: “When entering the premises, I was impressed by the fantastic atmosphere of this hotel with such magnificent charm in old Bratislava. I have approached only a handful of commissions with the same enthusiasm, with such great joy and sense of freedom, as the paintings and drawings for these interiors.”

Let us now return to the Marrol’s trilogy of oil paintings. Their individual titles are: Chlapec v modrom (Boy in Blue), Dievča s kruhom (Girl with Hula Hoop), and Veselá príhoda alebo Labutie jazero (Funny Story or Swan Lake). The paintings are the beginning to a story, leaving room for people to complete the individual stories themselves. They complete the artistic impression of the interior of the entrance hall and lobby.

Although Ján Ťapák is primarily an academic sculptor, his work on drawings has also enriched our hotel rooms, the Library Bar and the Jasmine SPA. In his own words: “I like to draw, I do not copy; when doing a portrait I look for something that others can not see, therein lies my originality. I want to capture the character of a person.”

The mood of Ján Ťapák’s figure drawings, portraits, nudes, drawings of animals, creates a fan of beautiful images depicting the beauty of the moment. These works create a temporary substitute for the atmosphere of our guests’ own homes.

LIBRARY SALOON
The Library Saloon provides the perfect location for important social and corporate gatherings. It is exquisitely furnished in retro style with air-conditioning and the latest electronic and audio-visual equipment and can accommodate events up to 40 people.

Present your company, train your employees, sign a contract. Celebrate your birthday, have a wedding party or just meet your friends for a cup of coffee in the unforgettable atmosphere of our Library Saloon.

GREEN SALOON
Special events, extraordinary gatherings requiring privacy, celebrations in the private circle of the family, as well as many other similar occasions. That’s what Marrol’s Green Saloon is for.

When you enter this space, you’ll need a moment to catch your breath. The first look inside is truly breathtaking. Your eyes will surely rest on the magnificent chandelier in the centre of the entrance room, which dominates the space and defines its character.

All this enchantment is enhanced by a huge round table made of solid natural wood material, comfortable leather armchairs around its perimeter, and pictorial decorations on the silk-wallpapered walls.

The charm of the interior is enhanced by the rear saloon area furnished with comfortable leather sofas and a home cinema, a space that has witnessed many extraordinary events throughout the hotel’s history. And the last point – the location. Bratislava city centre.
