Masseria Cianciò Modica

The Masseria Cianciò, a local family-run farm, is located in the extreme eastern tip of Sicily, just 12 kilometres from Modica and about 5 from Pozzallo. Situated in the countryside of Modica, among carob and olive trees, prickly pears and dry-stone walls, the farmhouse still preserves its original features, both in the building materials and in the furnishings, in order to recreate the atmosphere of the typical 19th century farmhouse.

The large pebbled courtyard, the “heart” of the farmhouse, is surrounded by the farmer’s house, stables, warehouses for storage of carobs, wheat and straw… now restructured and used for guest’s comfortable accomodation. There are 8 comfortable en-suite rooms, bordering on the yard and almost all have a lovely private garden where guests can spend relaxing moments or have breakfast during the warmer months.

LOCATION
Thanks to is position The Masseria Cianciò is an ideal departure point for daily excursions to the nearby towns of Val di Noto, such as Modica, Ragusa Ibla and Scicli, which are examples of the finest sicilian baroque.

For those who are fond of archeology, Cava Ispica is only a few minutes drive from the farm. People who prefer the sea can choose between the fine beaches of the iblean coast or can move eastwards to the wildlife reserve of Vendicari and to Marzamemi, a picturesque fishing village. From the port of Pozzallo tourists can visit the island of Malta in one day trip.

ACCOMODATIONS IN MASSERIA
The structure is that of a typical Sicilian “farm”, made up of the farmer’s house, the barn, from warehouses to store carob, wheat and straw, which all overlook the “beam”, today transformed into cozy rooms for guests. A few metres from the Masseria Cianciò there is our dependence “A Mànnara” with a rockygarden and in amazement…

There are 8 comfortable en-suite rooms, bordering on the yard and almost all have a lovely private garden where guests can spend relaxing moments or have breakfast during the warmer months.

Each accomodation has been customised with attention to detail thanks to the professionalism of the owner an interior decorator, who created environments Masseria Cianciò, the resulti s an elegant and refined stay in complete harmony with the atmosphere of the iblean countryside.

EQUIPMENT
The antique furniture dating from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century blends perfectly with the materials used in the renovation of the building: the bare stone walls, the floors of local material, including Ragusa stone, ceramics tiles from Caltagirone, modern beams and bamboo vanes on the ceilings.

COOKING LESSONS
In our Masseria is possible, on request, to book a Sicilian cooking lesson. Under the expert guidance of our “massare modicane” you will discover the secrets of the most authentic cuisine of the “iblee” families. Traditional and family recipes that have passed down over the centuries.

Using products that the land offers you will learn how to prepare traditional dishes: from the famous “scacce modicane” to “broad bean’s macco”, from the “Cucche” with cheese to homemade “cavatelli pasta” with aubergine and homemade ravioli pasta with ricotta cheese and much more…

A class will be devoted to preparing the famous chocolate of Modica. The lessons are taught in Italian and in English. After class you will eat and enjoy what you’ve prepared.

JOGGING PATH
Along one “TRAZZERA” (natural path) surrounded by olive and carrob trees you can play or excercies with the use of professional equipments made in wood. Also you can take advantage of the huge extension of the property to walk or run, an uncontaminated nature with amazing view of the sea.
