MUEHLBACH & ITS SURROUNDINGS
Rio di Pusteria is located at an altitude of 777 meters above sea level and is easily accessible via the highway or the Pusteria state road, and with public transport it is just as simple.

Mühlbach, Rio di Pusteria in German, is the gateway to the Val Pusteria and is located right in the middle between it and the Valle Isarco. The railway network will quickly connect you to the beautiful cities that surround it: Bressanone, Brunico and Vipiteno. You can reach Bressanone in just 15 minutes by bus and Brunico and Vipiteno in just 30 minutes by train.

RIO DI PUSTERIA
The village of Rio Pusteria is located in the homonymous municipality between the Val Pusteria and the Valle Isarco at 777 m asl and has got some 1.020 inhabitants.

Once upon a time the Medieval village used to be a strategic hub, as it was site of a toll station and barricade, that is to say the Chiusa di Rio Pusteria. Today this mighty fortress can be visited in guided tours from June to September and is venue for Medieval Knight Games, a highlight for kids.

Shopping in the lovely corners of the village, a jump into the waters of the outdoor pool, a walk along the trail to Spinga, a tour in the Gitschberg or Jochtal hiking areas or a coffee in the shade of the steeple of Rio Pusteria, the offer is widely varied.

By the way, in summer the church square of Rio Pusteria is venue for the long summer nights with live music and entertainment, always taking place on Wednesdays. From Rio Pusteria you can, however, reach Maranza by funicular. For this reason you can comfortably go skiing without using your car. An alternative is a short drive to the Jochtal skiing area in Valles.

BRESSANONE
The municipal city of Bressanone is, in the true sense of the word, located in the heart of South Tyrol and is immersed in a wide valley basin. Beside the city it also comprises the villages nestling on the slopes of Monte Ponente as well as S. Andrea on the slopes of the Plose and the localities of Albes, Elvas, Millan, Eores and Sarnes.

The mild climate of the Valle Isarco valley makes vineyards and fruit orchards flourish in this area. In fact, Bressanone fascinates twice: on the one hand the city has got a varied cultural programme to offer, on the other hand the surrounding villages as well as the local mountain of the Plose make you escape the city life and take you to another world, the world of nature, ideal for taking a break and enjoying relaxation.

A Toerggele hike along the sunny slopes of the Monte Ponente and subsequent stop in one of the typical taverns called Buschenschank, a drink at the event Summer Emotions in the historic town of Bressanone, a shopping evening, a winter walk on the Plose and a visit of the Christmas Market, the episcopal city and the surrounding villages have much to offer in every season and for every

BRUNICO
In the heart of the Val Pusteria lies its main town, Brunico, with the surrounding districts, which stretch from the golf course at the foot of Mt. Plan de Corones to the Aurino Floodplains in Stegona and on to San Giorgio and the fields of Villa Santa Caterina and Teodone.

This is where the Lower Val Pusteria ends, and where the upper part begins with the famous lakes and the Three Peaks of Lavaredo. From a cultural and sporting point of view, the municipality is a destination for every season.

The most popular season is winter, when the skiing area on Mt. Plan de Corones opens its gates and can now be reached from several sides. The local mountain has also become a cultural attraction in recent years with the opening of two museums on the 2,275 m high peak: the Museum of Mountain Photography and the MMM Corones, which complement each other.

The cultural offer continues in the valley, where the Brunico Municipal Museum and the South Tyrolean Folklore Museum in Teodone have interesting stories to tell. Brunico Castle, which seems to watch over the town from its castle hill called Schlossberg, houses another one of Reinhold Messner’s museums: MMM Ripa, dedicated to the mountain peoples of the earth.

Long Friday evening shopping, concerts with international names, the Old Town Festival and the Christmas Market in the Advent period also make Brunico the social meeting place of the Val Pusteria.

For an aperitif, people meet in the old town between Brunico Castle and the Tschurtschenthaler Park at the other end, or around the newly designed Town Hall Square. In addition, there is the Stegona Market in October, the annual market with a funfair: If you buy something warm to wear here, you’ll get through the winter in good shape, as the old saying goes.

VIPITENO
The municipal city of Vipiteno includes the town of Vipiteno as well as Ceves, Tunes and Novale. Always has Vipiteno been commercial centre, above all due to its location between the Alpine passes of Passo Giovo, Passo del Brennero and Passo di Pénnes.

The municipality is located in the west of the Stubai Alps, in the east there are the Zillertal Alps and in the south and south-west it is delimited by the Sarentino Alps. Between the Isarco and the Ridanna rivers, Vipiteno extends on the north-western border of a plain valley basin in the southern Wipptal valley.

In fact, this area has already been settled in prehistoric times, as 14 BC the Roman settlement “Vipitenum” developed in this place. Still today the Medieval town of Vipiteno combines ancient atmosphere with the modern aspects of a small city that is characterised by a climate that is typical for Central Europe.

Shopping in the former Fugger city, mountain tours in the summer months and skiing in the Monte Cavallo and Ladurno skiing area, Vipiteno offers a wide range of activities for those who love active holidays as well as sight for those who are interested in culture.

Together with four other charming and historically interesting South Tyrolean places – Castelrotto, Glorenza, Egna and Chiusa – Vipiteno is part of “I borghi più belli d’Italia” (The most beautiful places in Italy) with the note “The captured hours on the Tower of the Twelve”.

THE WINTER TIME
As soon as the first snow has fallen, we get our toboggans, snowshoes, and boards ready for an unforgettable winter in the South Tyrolean mountains.

Fantastic conditions await you in Val Pusteria/Pustertal along with countless untouched routes for ski tourers, perfectly maintained cross-country ski trails and toboggan runs, family-friendly and ultra-modern ski areas in the surroundings, fantastic winter hiking trails for walks, and challenging snowshoe hikes … wow!

All of this in our incomparably wild and romantic winter landscape that only the mountain world of the Dolomites can promise.

SKIING & SKI SAFARI
If you appreciate short distances, you’ve come to the right place! The valley station of the cable car to the Gitschberg Jochtal ski area (which has won several family-friendly awards), is less than a four-minute walk from Molaris Lodges. But it is also only a stone’s throw away from the other ski areas in South Tyrol. There are always ideal conditions for a ski safari on the most beautiful slopes in South Tyrol!

SKI TOURS
What could be better than making your first tracks in the fresh, glistening snow? Absolutely nothing! Val Pusteria/Pustertal is a paradise for exciting ski tours through a fascinating, untouched winter landscape. Tours of all levels of difficulty promise diverse fun in the snow.

Here, you’ll find comfortable and challenging ascents, views over the fantastic mountain world, and dreamy descents. But above all these things, you’ll fall in love with the peace and quiet, far away from the hustle and bustle of the valley.

We would be happy to help you plan your tour or arrange a mountain guide for easier and enjoyable touring. We would like to recommend two particularly beautiful routes:

CRUSC DE RIT/WILDE KREUZSPITZE
These striking twin peaks catch the eye from far away. However, the climbs from all sides – Val di Vizze/Pfitschertal, Mules/Mauls, Malga Fane/Fane Alm – are long and not to be underestimated. The starting point is Malga Fane/Fane Alm (1,739m).

From here, the trail continues through the gorge, then leisurely through the valley, past the Malga Pfann/Pfannalm (2,141m) to the Brixner Hütte (2,300m). The Brixner Hütte is open from the end of June and the winter room is always open.

Following the course of the valley, the trail leads in a broad arc to a ridge (Rauhtaljoch, 2,808m) between the Blickenspitze (2,988m) and Crusc de Rit/Wilde Kreuzspitze.

On the left of the ridge, the ascent to the summit can be started in the S flank, it is steep but not too difficult. Ascent time: 4-5 hours. Difficulty level: easy to moderately difficult. This tour only accessible from March to May.

CIMA DI VALMALA/WURMAULSPITZE
The starting point of this popular ski tour near Molaris Lodges is in Vals on Malga Fane/Fane Alm. This tour is crowned by an impressive descent through the Stilonbach gorge but requires alpine experience and a good level of fitness.

The ski tour to Cima di Valmala/Wurmaulspitze (3.022m) is quite prone to avalanches in winter and should therefore only be done in spring when the avalanches on both sides of the valley have already cleared.

First, the tour goes up from the car park to Malga Fane/Fane Alm and briefly into the valley until you see the Stilonbach gorge on the right. Through the narrow valley, there is a strenuous ascent to the “Joch der Enge” (2,732m). With a slight descent, the route now continues northwest and then up the magnificent southern slope to the beginning of the rocky southern ridge.

There is a ski shelter here. Via easy bouldering and fixed ropes at the end, you reach the summit plateau with a magnificent view. The descent follows the same route as the ascent. For this tour with an altitude difference of 1,403 metres, you need about 4 hours for the ascent.

THE SUMMER TIME
Each day of your timeout at Molaris Lodges will be full of surprises. Because of the mild southern climate, we have many sunny, warm days and fresh mountain air which refreshes and invigorates during hikes in the Dolomites and across the high alpine pastures in the surrounding area. Ready for the best summer of your life? Discover all there is to experience in Mühlbach and its surroundings!

Very close to Molaris Lodges, there are a variety of hikes with fantastic natural scenery for the whole family, such as hikes to the picturesque Malga Fane/Fane Alm, Valle d’Altafossa/Altfasstal, or Laghi di Campolago/Seefeldsee.

A bus service takes our guests from the hotel to Rodeneck, for hiking on the renowned Alpe di Rodengo/Rodenecker Alm. The inviting Roner Alm hut offers a first resting place before the path leads up to the wide plateau.

From Mühlbach you can also quickly and easily reach various other hiking tours in the Dolomites, such as in the Fanes-Senes-Braies/ Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park, around the famous Lago di Braies/Pragser Wildsee or to the well-known Tre Cime di Lavaredo/Drei Zinnen (or “Three Peaks” in English) in Alta Pusteria/Hochpustertal. The journey to fantastic hikes is also possible by public transport like the comfortable Ferrovia della Val Pusteria/Pustertalbahn as well.
