Imaginatively weaved and constructed, our lodge is perched on the edge of a waterhole overlooking the abundant plains of Nambiti. Spaces are open and uncluttered, leading you to focus on the incredible views of the bushveld beyond.
The lodge is unfenced so that animals can roam freely. Similarly, we want you to feel like you’re part of the bush, more than just a spectator. Read more about our eco-friendly initiatives. Presided over by our ancient fig tree, relax with a cocktail at the swimming pool, or recline on your private deck and watch the animals drink at the waterhole.
All your meals are included in your stay, and you can look forward to 5-star – yet unfussy – food with a focus on local flavours and fresh ingredients. We are also able to cater for almost all dietary needs.
We hold our guests in high esteem. In fact, they are practically considered family. So we wanted to share some of our passions that warm our hearts with you, our visitors.
Nambiti Plains has decided to join the Pack for a Purpose initiative to positively impact local communities by assisting travellers who want to make a meaningful contribution to the destination they are visiting.
Nambiti Plains is a manmade built project, but as a Lodge and Team, the aim is to nurture and be part of nature with as little impact on the surroundings as possible. Wildlife poaching is a sinister and consistent threat in any wildlife sanctuary. It is a threat that is difficult to contain because of the various fronts that it can occur on.
Nambiti Plains is the heart and soul of a dream conceived by the Fry Family. A place where guests, and the family, could be close to nature and the natural realm while being a part of a larger conservation project to protect the vulnerable wildlife that naturally exists in the area.
THE HISTORY
The history of Nambiti Plains is that it was built on the site of an old farmhouse, where some of the old red brick outbuildings (over 100 years old!) still remain. The lodge is a labour of love reflecting its owners’ dedication to conservation.
The Fry family created their own piece of African paradise which they’d love to share with the world, bringing people back to nature. “We are the founders and current owners of the company that produces the Fry Family Food Co. range of meat alternatives.
It comes as no surprise, therefore, that our whole conviction and moral standpoint has been the conservation of the planet. We also strive to raise the consciousness of millions of people we come in contact with every day through our fantastic range of plant-based meat alternatives.
In keeping with that philosophy (and in the knowledge that a cattle-free Africa will go a long way to saving our beautiful environment), we decided to further pursue this ethos by investing in an authentic game reserve venture where people can experience a true taste of Africa.
The theme of conservation and a genuine bush experience is encouraged here at the Nambiti Plains Lodge. We live with the animals at Nambiti Plains, not separate from them like in a zoo. As such, we ask you to embrace our ethos and enjoy the special excitement of this raw bush experience while in 5-star luxury accommodation.
Without you and your proactiveness, we could not sustain this wonderful facility. We’d like to thank all our guests for everything they bring to our part of the world. From our management team, staff, and from us, we want to welcome you. We hope that once you have visited us, you will return to be with our family in the bush over and over again.”
ACCOMMODATION
Imaginatively weaved and constructed, your individual suite is perched on the edge of the abundant plains of Nambiti. Our suites are centred around nature and blend with their surroundings. The spaces are open and uncluttered, leading you to focus on the incredible views of the bushveld beyond.
Nambiti Plain’s ethos remains to stay true to nature and have as little impact as possible on the surroundings. The gravel paths leading to the suites are a forewarning of your coming for any wildlife that may be grazing in the scrub or grass around you.
The thatch blends with the trees and bushes, and lends that wonderfully whimsical safari sense to the rooms. As you walk in, you will see that the front side of your rooms is panelled with windows looking out towards the plains and the surrounding landscape.
LUXURY SUITE
In the corner of the suite alongside the stone wall is a wooden tea and coffee station which also houses your minibar and amenities. This flows toward the bed adorned in a mosquito net and crisp white linen as well as your welcome gift.
The rooms are very environmentally consciously designed, with as much of the materials kept as natural as possible. A wooden bench adds a stylish touch at the foot of the bed as you head towards the bath and spacious bathroom with cupboard, vanity area, open shower and toilet all in muted earthy tones.
The chairs alongside the romantic freestanding bath are one of the highlights for our guests along with the stackable doors that can be opened to let the outside breeze in. A private viewing deck allows you a unique view of the plains laid out before you. The deck comes fitted with comfortable deck chairs for relaxing, and a table and chairs.
HONEYMOON SUITE
The honeymoon style suite is what dreams are made of. It is set in generous space proportions while taking the surrounding nature into account with as natural as possible elements used in the construction of the area.
The suite is spaciously laid out with an open plan twin room design. The mosquito net canopied bed is centred to the one side of the suite, along with two chairs looking out across the expansive deck and the surrounding bush onto the rolling hills in the distance.
The bathroom features a gorgeous freestanding bath with a prime nature viewing position backed by the vanity area. Chairs lead through to the indoor shower and out to the privacy of your outdoor shower where you can truly enjoy a sensory experience of the African bush.
The ample deck is equipped with deck chairs for lounging and enjoying a drink, or a table and chairs to share a cup of early morning coffee.
SLOW-LANE SAFARIS
The bush is unpredictable by nature – that’s what makes it so unique and exciting. At Nambiti Plains, we believe in ‘slow-lane’ safaris, where we appreciate all of nature’s wonders.
Our guides are experts in the circle of life and how it spins both slowly and frenetically in the African bush. They will offer you wildlife lessons from their own cultures and experiences; they will tell stories and share anecdotes; they will explain, inform, educate, and then sit back and let you fall in love with the wild in your own way.
If you feel like staying put in the luxury of the lodge, you can enjoy your own wildlife viewing from the comfort of a deck chair on your private patio. We also offer private game viewing experiences, bush picnics, walking safaris and private dinners under the stars.
PRIVATE ROMANTIC DINNERS
Lit by candlelight and starlight, we can arrange a romantic private dinner for you and your loved one on your private deck overlooking the wild African bush below.
You’ll be treated to a three-course meal for just the two of you, surrounded by the sounds of the wild. This package also includes a romantic turndown with a bubble bath, a bottle of Method Cap Classique on ice, special snacks and a private dinner on your deck under the stars.
BUSH PICNICS
Spectacular picnic somewhere in the Nambiti Bush. Includes open game viewer transfer through the reserve, bush picnic (either on the traditional way or with table and chairs), private chef and/or host.
RIVER LUNCH
This need to be booked in advance and subject to availability. Here we set up tables and chairs and a chef host them. This is then booked at the cascades.
PRIVATE GAME DRIVES
Enjoy the bush at your own pace by reserving your own private game drive during your stay. This is a perfect opportunity for keen photographers and birders – stop when you want, where you want, for as long as you want to get the shot or find that elusive bird species.
STARGAZING
While on safari in the evening, your guide will take the opportunity to point out and discuss the night skies. The Milky Way is a phenomenal sight to behold on a clear night, and the plethora of constellations such as Orion, Taurus the Bull, the Southern Cross, Scorpio and many others will keep you in wonder.
BASS FISHING
During the summer months, the dams and rivers are alive with a variety of Large‐Mouth Bass, Small‐Mouth Bass, and Tilapia. Relax and take a break for an hour or two with a rod in one hand and a beverage in the other, immerse yourself in the tranquillity and sounds of the bush.
Fishing is on a catch‐and‐release basis. Available at any time of the day and can be fit in between morning and evening game drives.
NIGHT DRIVES
With a pre-booked night drive, you’ll have a chance to enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush at night. You will have the opportunity to see the more elusive nocturnal animals’ resident on the Nambiti Reserve such as porcupine, large spotted genet, jackal, aardvark and the ever-elusive leopard.
DAY TRIP GAME DRIVES
Just haven’t got enough time to join us for two days? Looking to do something different with the family? Take them on an awe‐inspiring day trip game drive on Nambiti Game Reserve. Day trip game drives are typically 3 – 4 hours long and include a stop to stretch the legs and have a drink out in the bush.
BIRDWATCHING
Birds of a Feather. Yes, Twitcher types, we are with you! Here are 5 reasons why birders love to visit Nambiti Plains Lodge. Nambiti Plains Lodge is located in the Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve.
The reserve boasts incredible biodiversity – including savannah, thornveld, extensive grasslands, an abundance of natural water and the beautiful cascades of the Sundays River. This pristine habitat makes the reserve a bird lover’s paradise. Nambiti Big 5 Private Game Reserve is home to almost 200 species of birds, giving you a long list to discover.
The lodge has a comprehensive range of birding reference books and our guides all have a particular passion for birding. You’ll be impressed by their extensive knowledge of the birds on the reserve. When we get a bunch of birders, we’ll go out of our way to get you the best sightings. No need to follow the crowds to the game sightings; we’ll likely see them anyway.
Rather, our guides will take you to the secret birding spots of the reserve so that you can maximise your winged sightings. If we have the availability, we’ll provide birding groups with their own game vehicle so that we can tailor the drive to the twitchers.
Our unfenced lodge is home to natural vegetation that attracts an array of birds. The hum and lilt of birdsong is always in the air around the lodge, and you may even have some of your best sightings while sitting on the deck enjoying a cup of tea or a sundowner! Birders, needless to say, you are more than welcome at Nambiti Plains Lodge!
