At Leitlhof we pursue a mission for the beauty of life. And that starts with nature. We use the best our region has to offer and enhance it with a fine note of luxury. The idea behind Leitlhof: Heat, power and water in our own hands. We have our own organic farm and cattle ranch. It seems like Mother Nature was trying to put all her magnificence on display in the Dolomites. The monumental peaks tower high above the valley. FAMILY & PHILOSOPHY
The history of the Leitlhof and the Mühlmann family started with the decison to buy it in 1997 and to gradually transform it in line with our vision of sustainable tourism.

We operate our hotel with passion and purpose. Our business has developed and grown. We’ve added a spa & wellness area, a parking garage and additional rooms and have enlarged our reception and our restaurant.

Our biggest milestone to date has been the implementation of the Leitl idea of generating our own wood-powered energy. Stephan Mühlmann, the junior owner, has been responsible for this project. Since 2015, Leitlhof has been producing its own heat and energy, has its own water source and has thus become one of the very few self-sustained hotels in Europe.

The wood-fired combined heat and power plant was installed when the senior owners Robert and Agnes handed over their business to their son Stephan and his wife Evelin. The mission has remained the same: sustainability.

Stephan and Robert still go logging together in the Leitlhof forest. The timber is used to produce wood chips for the heating system. The hotel’s own farm with sheep and cattle livestock is still operated by the family. The products are used in the hotel restaurant.

ROOMS & SUITES
Our rooms and suites at the Leitlhof nature hotel are a sanctuary for you to return to after a long day in the outdoors. Enjoy our natural blend of subtle luxury and tradition, of old and new. All our rooms feature warm wood, soft materials and plenty of natural light.

SUITE DOLOMITEN
Light-flooded, modern suite with a large balcony or garden and a view of the mountains. The Dolomites Suite has a double bed made from fragrant stone pine wood, a sofa bed, a bathroom with a bathtub/shower, a separate toilet and some nice extras like the fluffy bathrobes, fast Wi-Fi and a scent of stone pine wood in the air. This room can be connected to the Natura double room.

FAMILY SUITE
Spacious, comfortable family suite with a double room, sofa bed, separate single room and a modern bathroom with a bathtub/ shower. Panoramic balcony, fragrant stone pine elements and some nice extras like soft bathrobes, a flat screen TV and Wi-Fi.

SONNENSUITE
Light-flooded suite ideal for families with a panoramic garden and a wonderful view of the mountains. The Sun Suite has a double bed and sofa bed, a bathroom with a bathtub, a separate toilet and some nice extras: soft bathrobes, fast Wi-Fi and a flat screen TV

HELM
This room is a classic held dear. It offers plenty of space for up to four persons, a double bed, sofa bed and a bathtub/shower. Plus, a few nice extras that will enhance your stay: a view of the mountains, fluffy bathrobes and fast Wi-Fi.

DINING
Time is one of the key ingredients that makes our cuisine stand out: Time for food to grow and ripen. Time to prepare meals with devotion and creativity.

When our chef de cuisine Markus Auer and his team do what they do best, they whisk up divine creations. They use only the finest ingredients: professional experience, creative recipes, respect for our food, home-grown products, hungry guests and unique dishes.

Breakfast buffet, Marende snack or gala dinner: When it comes to food, South Tyrol unites the best of two worlds: regional ingredients and fine Italian cuisine. At Leitlhof, these two culinary worlds are in perfect harmony.

What makes our cuisine at Leitlhof so special? It’s a playful combination of regional recipes, Mediterranean influence, highest professional standards and premium ingredients.

Our chef de cuisine Markus Auer and his team find their inspiration and ideas for new dishes in nature: Their creed is to pack as much regionalism into our dishes as possible. This results in finely tuned, carefully prepared meals with a special twist and a note of South Tyrol.

Easy mornings in a relaxed atmosphere: With lovingly set tables and a grand view of the Dolomites, our restaurant is the best place to start your day. In summer, breakfast is served on our terrace to make your rendezvous with nature even more intimate.

Every evening, our restaurant transforms into an atmospheric place of culinary delight where we serve you the best of our Leitlhof cuisine.

With creative ideas, Markus Auer and his team adapt and refine traditional dishes, drawing on the Mediterranean influence that is omnipresent in South Tyrol. Our multi-course dinners use mostly regional ingredients. Whenever possible, directly from our farm.

THE BREAKFAST
What is it about Italian cappuccino that makes it smell so good? Explore the secret behind Italian coffee over a scrumptious breakfast at Leitlhof. It might take a few attempts, though.

Your palate will be distracted by all the exquisite regional specialties: crisp, fresh bread from our regional bakery, sweet honey from our local beekeepers, fruits and vegetables from our own farm – a local delight in every bite.

Bask in the morning sun and start your day by counting the peaks on the horizon as you enjoy our summer breakfast served on our beautiful terrace.

Let your eyes wander over the majestic Dolomites and take in the Alpine flair: a panoramic view of the cragged mountains and thick woods, the crystal-clear air in your lungs and a gentle warm summer breeze on your skin. Breakfast on our terrace is a rendezvous with nature.

SOUTH TYROLEAN MARENDE 
Marende is the secret favorite meal of the day for most South Tyroleans. This is because – although it’s only considered a snack – it includes the best specialties from our region.

Zesty speck from our butcher in Olang is served with crisp dark bread from our regional bakery along with fresh cheese and milk from Val Pusteria. Crunchy vegetables and pickled delicacies complete the Marende experience.

COFFEE & CAKE
If you’re on the sweet side, you’ll love this: We often serve homemade sweet dishes such as fruity cakes or sweet strudels for Marende. There is also fresh fruit from our region, as well as coffee and tea, of course. Sounds good? Don’t miss our Marende! Every day between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.

THE BAR
Watch the sunset and enjoy the alpenglow through the large panoramic windows as you sip your favorite drink. Toast with your friends. Let your day come to an end. Our hotel bar is our guests’ favorite place for jovial get-togethers.

Select wines from Italian and international wineries, homemade liqueurs and fine beverages from South Tyrolean wineries: These are the treasures to be found in our wine cellar at Leitlhof.

In our wine cellar you will find treasures from all over the world. The main focus, however, is on regional specialties. Just like for our cuisine, we rely mainly on local producers for our wines and distilled spirits.

The Naturhotel Leitlhof has a classic Finish sauna, an herbal sauna, a steam room and a brine bath as well as two cozy outdoor saunas made of birch and stone pine wood.

After the sauna, you can cool off in our invigorating plunge pool, take a refreshing shower or dip your feet in a cold-water Kneipp foot bath. When you finally lean back in the relaxation room, you’ll experience a state of deep relaxation and total peace of mind.

THE SAUNA

OUTDOOR POOL
Careful when using our outdoor pool for the first time! The view might take your breath away. The cragged Haunold mountain with its rugged peaks towers directly behind the pool, watching over our guests. Leitlhof adds a new dimension to floating: floating with a view. The heated pool will keep you warm in case you can’t stop.

The outdoor pool at Leitlhof is a place for sweet idleness and bliss. Bask in the summer sun on the soft loungers before taking a dip in the cool pool. Or enjoy the steaming water of the heated pool in winter as you float through a beautiful winter landscape.

Our water world with outdoor pool, indoor pool, experience showers and waterfall is the center of our spa and wellness facility. The adjacent sauna area also has a hot tub, a plunge pool and a cold-water Kneipp area.

ACTIVITIES 
We feel privileged to live in a place where the world’s most beautiful mountain range majestically rises before our eyes. The Dolomites in South Tyrol with the striking 3 Zinnen (Three Peaks/Tre Cime di Lavaredo) are among the most famous peaks in the Alps. In 2009 they became a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. To us, they are home.

Their “unique, monumental beauty” was the decisive factor for the UNESCO committee to designate the Dolomites in South Tyrol as a World Natural Heritage Site. And indeed, the steep reefs of limestone and dolomite rising up to 3200 meters, the gentle alpine pastures and cragged peaks are more than impressive.

Along with the honorable title of being a World Heritage Site came a great responsibility for our region: UNESCO sites are subject to special protection in order to preserve the beautiful nature with its flora and fauna for future generations.

At Leitlhof, it is our mission to protect and preserve nature. As a nature hotel, we strive to protect the unique environment we live in. Our carbon-neutral wood-fired combined heat and power plant has been a major step in this direction.

Our home village of San Candido is located amidst the Sexten Dolomites, the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park with the beautiful Lago die Braies and the 3 Zinnen Dolomites Nature Park. It is the later that is the most famous: In fact, the rock formation of the Three Peaks is so special that is has become the symbol of the Dolomites.

These unique rock cliffs are only about 20 kilometers from San Candido and the Leitlhof nature hotel. They are a year-round attraction for climbers, hikers, winter sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. It’s easy to be active year-round in the outdoors of the Dolomites. In fact, it’s more than just easy. It’s “uplifting”. Here are our favorite tips for your outdoor adventures.

The place to be for alpinists. A stunning landscape full of beautiful peaks to be climbed and challenging cliffs for vertical conquests.

SKIING
Dolomites on skis. If you’re looking for amazing ski areas that have not been discovered by the crowds, this is your place!

SKI TOURING
Peace of mind. Enjoy the serenity of skinning up on skis through the pristine landscape before you prepare for the thrill of the downhill.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING 
200 kilometers of cross-country trails. The vast trail network in our valley has a great variety of skating and classic cross-country ski tracks.

SNOWSHOEING
In a group or on your own. Serenity, solitude and pristine landscapes make snowshoeing a rewarding winter experience.

TOBOGGANING
The Haunold mountain has a fabulous sledding track. A groomed tobogganing road takes you all the way from the Haunold mountain down into the village of San Candido.
