Views of the mountains and an eye for our guests’ needs – it only takes a few words to describe what makes this holiday refuge so very special. A place in the Ahrntal valley where relaxation and nature are closely connected, where great emphasis is placed on good food and every guest creates a lasting memory.

A place of strength that inspires you to conquer the summits and that makes you feel welcome. At the heart of things yet far away. Cosy and serene. Almost like home.

The fireside lounge, the bar and the large garden: at the Alpenblick there is plenty of space for wellbeing. Drink a cup of tea in sight of the fire, browse the newspaper, enjoy a glass of wine after dinner in the bar and plan the next day.

It’s easy at the Alpenblick: the mountains are literally outside the hotel door, the ski slope and toboggan run leads right to the hotel and anyone who prefers things a bit slower can simply head out and take a leisurely walk. If only simplicity could always be this easy.

The Family
Everyone is good taken care of at the Hotel Alpenblick – and that is mainly due to the hosts themselves. When Marianna Großgasteiger welcomed the first guests to her home in 1956, today’s head, Hartmann, was still a baby.

Initially the children gave up their rooms for the vacationers. Although, this was only a temporary solution. Finally in the 1960s the family opened a guest house with 20 beds. Hartmann was only 22 years old when he took over with his sister Margit the establishment from their parents.

Over the next few decades, he kept an eye on building work and transformed the hotel, together with his wife Hanna, into what it is today: A hotel where the guests feel almost as if they are at home.

A place where personality is not simply a marketing slogan and where feeling good is as easy as it can be. To the delight of all, the next generation, Hartmann’s daughters Helena and Katja, are already in the starting blocks to take over his hotel business.

ROOMS & SUITES

Our rooms offer a temporary home in the mountains. The very name of the hotel “Alpenblick”, meaning “view of the Alps”, suggests its surroundings. One can actually enjoy the surrounding mountain world from every corner of the hotel.

We set great store by using natural materials and the attention to detail: our fabrics, which bring freshness into our rooms and increase the cosiness factor, make sure of this.

This is also true of the South Tyrolean spruce with which many of our rooms are panelled. Since the open air is especially important to us, lots of our rooms have a balcony.

Families, couples, solo-travellers: at the Alpenblick, travelling has many faces. Only one thing always remains the same: each room is furnished with love for detail and local materials. Matured timber in our Gipfel rooms, family rooms with plenty of extra space or the simpler variant for those who prefer to spend their time outside.

Experience South Tyrol’s Culinary Side
Healthy ingredients, careful preparation, delicious flavours. Traditional Ahrntal Valley fare, local specialities, Italian dishes and every now and again even an international flavour taking a look beyond our mountain tops!

We know that culinary treats help make your holiday harmonious. All of that starts already early in the morning: with coffee, tea and various juices, fresh bread and pastries, jam, honey, fresh fruit and assorted savoury cold cuts.

In the evening our guests can choose between three different set of meals. A colourful salad and vegetable buffet is always there to go with it. Once a week our dessert evening makes things especially sweet.

Whereas on Sundays you are invited to our gala dinner. Quality that you can taste. By the way: we are happy to cater to food intolerances. Just let us know what you need when you make your reservation.

Wonderfully relaxed
Finding peace is not at all difficult with all the nature that surrounds our hotel. In addition to that, there is our wellness area, which really helps when it comes to slowing down.

Take a few laps in our indoor pool, relax in the jacuzzi, sweat in the Finnish sauna, treat your skin in the Turkish steam bath or warm your body in the infrared cabin.

Moreover, you could play with your muscles in the fitness room, open a book in our extensive garden, relax in the oasis of peace with a view of the tree trunks. And then there are our massages with aromatic oil or classic oil. Special moments that everyone can enjoy.

Gentle Hands
Relax during a full body massage with aromatic oils or do yourself some good with an Ayurveda treatment: we offer various treatments in the wellness area and will be happy to advise you.

Active through summer and winter
When it comes to mountains and leisure activities, Luttach is kissed by luck: Mountain tours, leisurely alpine hikes, bike rides and climbing in summer. Everyone as he pleases. Whereas in winter you can have fun on the slopes, go tobogganing and snowshoeing.

There are heaps of snow and you can always enjoy a beautiful sight! But there is still plenty more to discover. The South Tyrolean culture, which starts practically outside the hotel door at the Alpenblick. Handicrafts that will amaze you. And, of course, there is time at last for shopping on your holiday.

JUST LET IT BE SUMMER
That the area should be rechristened from a ski resort to a summer paradise during the warmer seasons of the year is demonstrated by the Ahrntal Valley’s two skiing mountains: take a leisurely ride with the lift to the top and then stride out on the circular hike.

On the Klausberg you could dash off to the Dino-Land, the water park or take a turbulent ride on the Alpine Coaster together with your kids. Whereas on the Speikboden you might try out the new Via Ferrata route. In both areas there is always an adventure to be had.

Schwarzenstein Hut
This hut is a genuine highlight that our guests always keep an eye on. The refuge hut on the mountain ridge, which is clad with copper, can even be seen from the valley.

Anyone reaching it after five or six hours of walking will be rewarded by its impressive architecture and an unbeatable view. The Schwarzenstein hut is especially attractive for little explorers and people free from giddiness.

Shopping
What’s it to be today? Do you like taking souvenirs back home from your holiday? There is a wealth of shopping opportunities in the Ahrntal Valley. If you’re looking for something special, we can highly recommend the little department store, Bixner, in St. Jakob.

Horvath’s in Bruneck awakes memories of a corner shop with cheese, bacon, dried fruits, a great variety of nuts and chocolate. Also worth mentioning is the new mountain equipment shop in Luttach, which offers excellent advice and is placed right around the corner of our establishment.

Taufers Castle
Library, courtroom, dining room, living area: Taufers Castle, high above Sand in Taufers, is the imposing landmark at the entrance to the Ahrntal Valley.

First mentioned in the records in the 13th century, it is rightly considered to be one of the loveliest castles in Tyrol. Visitors should not miss the Pacher frescoes in the castle chapel whereas children love the scary feeling of visiting the torture chamber.

Prettau Mine
The mine railway goes over one kilometre into the disused mine in Prettau. The everyday lives of the miners are brought back to life here. They worked hard for a raw material that was widely sought-after: the particularly malleable Prettau copper.

The mine’s heyday was 600 years ago, but right up into the 20th century this spot at the end of the Ahrntal Valley was the third largest copper supplier in Italy. It’s important to dress warmly and breathe in deeply since allergy sufferers find relieve of their troubles spending time in the mine’s own climate tunnel.

JUST LET IT BE WINTER!
Skiing
Two skiing mountains in the Ahrntal Valley offer lots of variety and fun on the slopes. The Speikboden (2 km from the hotel) scores points with its sporty slopes and 360-degree all around view at the Sonnklar mountain station.

The Klausberg (8 km from the hotel) is great for food and stands out for its numerous routes. In short: you just have to try out both of them! For those who likes it bigger, the nearby Kronplatz in Bruneck is the right place.

With 115 kilometres of slopes, it is one of the region’s largest ski resorts, which has also established itself as a centre for culture. The Kronplatz is also home to Reinhold Messner’s mountain museum Corones, about traditional alpinism and, more recently, to the Lumen Museum of Mountain Photography.

Tobogganing
Absolutely record-setting: the toboggan run that leads from the Speikboden, the nearby skiing area, to Luttach is ten kilometres long and almost stops right in front of our hotel.

Get on the ski bus or service bus, a minute walk from the Alpenblick, take the gondola to the mountain station, polish off a yeast dumpling in the mountain restaurant and then zoom by toboggan (available to hire directly from the mountain station) back down the mountain. The snow crunches and your heart will leap with joy.

Maranatha
Paul Gartner still remembers how he admired the Christmas crib at the Rouda as a little boy. That was at a time when many farms still built elaborate nativity landscapes. It fascinated the trained woodcarver so much that he began to collect the scenes.

In 2000 he opened the Maranatha (just by the hotel) which, with 120 exhibits, is one of the largest nativity scene museums in Europe. For the smallest scene (1 cm) you might almost need a magnifying glass, whilst the largest exhibit covers an area of 70 square metres.

Carved, with lace, in pot, movable and sprung from the mobile phone age: nativity scenes everywhere. A fantastic afternoon activity, and not just at Christmas.

Helmet off!
There is certainly no lack of collector’s passion in the Pustertal Valley. The “Dolomythos” in Innichen focuses on the origins of the Dolomites. At the Mineral Museum in St. Johann there are 1000 individual exhibits, including the largest smoky quartz in South Tyrol.

And in the Fire Helmet Museum in Gais you can find over 700 helmets from a wide variety of periods for little fire fighters to see. Visiting these museums is ideal when the weather makes a mess of your holiday planning.

Genuine wool
In recent years the sheep has enjoyed a renaissance in South Tyrol. In Villnöss they swear by the tender meat of the spectacled sheep, whereas the wool is no longer just a troublesome by-product.

The fact, that it keeps you nice and warm is well known, but anyone who is interested can find out what else can be done with wool in Helene’s Sheepswool Workshop in Kematen.

The animal topic continues right across the street: with goat’s milk products at the Goasroscht (you simply have to try the chocolate pudding!).
