The name of the Relais takes its origin from the castle of Morcote, the only medieval fortress in the Lugano territory and heart of the family’s vineyard, where high quality wine, olive oil and honey are produced.

TENUTA CASTELLO DI MORCOTE
The terroir from which our wines come is made up of slopes lying on the southern part of the pre-alpine chain towards the Po valley, where dozens of lakes are interspersed between valleys and mountains. This spectacular landscape is the result of volcanic eruptions and the formation of the Alps 200 millions years ago.
THE WINES
The Gianini family, who have owned the estate for four generations, have cultivated the vineyard on this land where wine was made since Roman times, in the shade of the tower and the Castle of Morcote.
The grapes cultivated are Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Sémillon. Viticulture is very artisanal, our wines are produced mainly by hand.
We work the vineyard scrupulously under organic management to respect this unique environment, where wild thyme and olive trees – characteristic of the Mediterranean but surrounded by the snowy peaks of the mountains.
Our mission is to obtain grapes of the highest quality and provenance to create outstanding, clean and fragrant wines: unique, as the expression of the land they come from.
