ABBA Resorts Izu (original Japanese name: Zagyosoh) has long been loved and treasured by many guests for over half a century. It was the first ABBA resort in the world and is now considered one of the premier and authentic ryokan Japanese hotels in the nation.

The term World Geopark refers to natural parkland with geological qualities, terrain, and academic importance. Izu Peninsula was formed by a volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean after it collided with Honshu (the Japanese mainland) approximately 600,000 years ago.

The topography of the island, which is one of the characteristic features of Izu Peninsula, was shaped by repeated crystal deformation and volcanic activity.
The peninsula offers visitors a spectacular view of the seasons.

Villas
Thirteen villas skillfully incorporate the magical touch of the four seasons and the beautiful scenery of Izu, an area that enjoys a relatively warm climate throughout the year. All the villas at the resort include an open-air bath, and four of our villas have a swimming pool.

Two of the most recently constructed villas are double-storied structures that contain a private sauna, jacuzzi and a kitchen where our chef can create special meals for you. The comfortable and spacious interiors have a relaxing and modern Japanese ambience. Guests will feel perfectly at home in these villas.

The villas are surrounded by greenery and freshened by cool highland air that revitalizes you. These villas resemble vacation homes and are nestled in the scenic beauty of Stewartia, Benthamidia, Japanese maples, and other seasonal plants.

Inside our villas, guests can relax in a spacious area that includes a living room, a bedroom, and a roof deck that leads to an open-air bath. The flower basin facing the garden is also a beautiful sight that will calm your soul.

Rest in the woods
Enjoy the silence of this amazing villa situated in an unspoiled wilderness. From the terrace you can embrace the deep peace of the woods. Listen to the rustle of leaves and the singing of the birds from your rocking chair.

This villa has a fully-fledged tatami room for the ultimate relaxation offered by Japanese culture and western comfort.

The large, 42㎡ terrace features an open-air bath within an arbor, Azumaya. Listen to the tumbling water as you watch the blue of the sky and the green of the forest reflected in your bathtub. Stretch out in the luxury of your surroundings and feel at ease.

The Ukiyama Hot Springs has long been a popular vacation spot, and the ABBA villa suite is located in the midst of nature snuggled inside a bamboo forest. There are two villas in this area, and both villas have a swimming pool and an open-air bath.

The balcony looks out over the swimming pool, giving the villa a fun resort-like feel. Both the living room and bedroom face the garden, making the villa feel open and refreshing. Take a nap on one of the deck chairs or in the living room. The facilities and comfort of the villa suite will make you lose track of time.

We offer two new villas with a split-level living space, your own private heated pool with water from the mineral springs, and an open-air jacuzzi located on the first floor.These villas have private kitchens that are adjacent to the living rooms.

A chef is also at your disposal to fulfill your gourmet desires. The bedroom is located on the second floor and looks out on Sagami Bay. The large open-wood deck has an outdoor mineral bath and a sauna.

Cuisine
Treat yourself to the gourmet delicacies offered by our restaurants. Our restaurant was awarded “Asia’s Best Culinary Hotel” in 2017, and its menu incorporates many beautiful and delicious items based on the seasonal specialties of the Izu region.

The breakfast menu offers a choice between traditional Japanese and Western style breakfast dishes. The dinner menu provides guests with a selection of Japanese Kaiseki, French cuisine, and Teppen-yaki.

Our award winning executive Chef Shinji Ido is recognized as leading the promotion of the Shizuoka prefecture agriculture, forestry and fishery together with its food culture and dishes.

For over 25 years, Chef Ido has devoted himself to the art of Kaiseki, a traditional Japanese multiple course meal.

After honing his skills at a five-star hotel in Tokyo, he returned to ABBA Resorts IZu because he is attracted to abundance of fresh, local and native grown ingredients in the area of his hometown. Chef Ido is a well known and admired specialist Fugu chef.

Chef Yamamoto focuses on locally produced ingredients. He takes these local ingredients and incorporates the knowledge and souls of those who produced them into completely new cuisines that are somehow nostalgic.

Our French restaurant, Yamamomo, offers “tea-pairings” for each course. Rare and local Japanese teas are mixed into sophisticated mocktails that can be married perfectly with the chef’s signature French–Japanese fusion cuisine.

Chef Yamamoto has gathered extensive experience on Teppanyaki, Italian, and French cuisines from his work in Tokyo, Germany, and some resorts in Japan.

Japanese Cuisine
Experience an array of dishes that display our masterful chef’s exemplary sense of taste through our Kaiseki cuisine. A new menu is created each month with precise attention to detail.

We use the freshest local ingredients such as fish from the Ito fish market and organic vegetables from our contracted farmers. Colorful ingredients and garnishes will please your eyes, while their essential flavors are utilized in a variety of dishes to create a gourmet bliss.

“Sakura”, a Japanese restaurant, has 14 private rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor. Enjoy breakfast or dinner in a relaxing private room with table and chairs for better comfort.

Our natural Fugu, puffer fish, is freshly caught from Enshunada in Shizuoka Prefecture and is an incredibly special experience that our guests are able to experience through this course.

Japanese Style Breakfast
Perfectly cooked, fluffy rice from a traditional rice kettle and an array of dishes that will tantalize your appetite. Enjoy a delicious breakfast you can only find at a traditional Japanese hotel.

Our gourmet cuisine is centered on locally produced ingredients and takes advantage of the blessings of nature. Our chef takes these local ingredients and incorporates the knowledge and feelings of those who produced them into completely new cuisines that are somehow nostalgic.

We are also proud to use native grown varieties of vegetables. Our cuisine will not only delight your palais, it will also dazzle your eyes. In addition to a wide selection of wines and other beverages, our tea pairing method is considered very unique and exquisite.

The tea pairing is a marriage between Japanese tea and French cuisine. The tea/tea blends are served in beautiful wine glasses and are paired with specific dishes to complement and bring emphasis to the color, aroma, and taste of the meal.

The tea blends play the same role as wine but are nonalcoholic. Our mocktails are a new alternative to awaken your senses.

French Restaurant – “Yamamomo”
The 1st floor has floor seating, and a tea room. The 2nd floor has one private room and two half private rooms and a restaurant with teppan-yaki area.On the 1st floor, guests can enjoy a meal while looking out at the spacious garden and on the 2nd floor the magnificent ocean expands to the horizon.

Western-Style Breakfast
Enjoy sparkling wine or freshly squeeze juice, fresh vegetables and fruits and many other selections on our half buffet. There is also handmade bread and different egg dishes to choose from.

Lunch
Our restaurants are also available to guest who are not staying the night with us. We hope you come visit us and enjoy one of our courses made with in season Izu ingredients or our a la carte menu in the middle of the great nature.

Dinner
Starting with the fresh seafood just picked up on the day in the Izu Ocean, you can enjoy colorful vegetables and other seasonal dishes in course menu.

Teppan-yaki
Our French chef will prepare a number of authentic dishes on the grill right in front of you. Dine on select beef as well as fresh fish and vegetables from Izu and enjoy the wonderful flavors of hand-picked ingredients. We also have a large selection of wines.

Bar Yoimachi
The indoor bar is a place to unwind before heading to your rooms for the night. In addition to cocktails created from seasonal fruit, we offer a wide variety of Japanese or Western beverages. There are also two karaoke rooms equipped with the latest sound systems.

Hot Spring
A famous hotspring among those in the know. In addition to beautifying effects, the natural hotspring has many other benefits. It is a famous hotspring among those in the know.

Ukiyama Hotspring has been adored by many since its opening. Guests can enjoy garden open-air baths, large baths and private open-air baths. Each one has two distinct types of baths.

Garden Open-air Baths
Open-air baths available to guests include the “Hanabusa”, a stone open-air bath overlooking a colorful moss garden, and “Aoi”, a hexagon-shaped open-air bath that is surrounded by a bushy grove of mixed trees, Japanese spurge, a bamboo fence, fringed iris and spear flowers.

Guests can enjoy the natural hotspring while feeling like they are in the middle of a forest. An outdoor terrace is also available as a resting space after a bath.

Large Public Baths
The two large baths, “Hisui” and “Shion” boast the largest amount of spring water on the complex. ABBA RESORTS IZU continues to accommodate guests with the opportunities to bathe while gazing on old bayberry trees and the nature around them through large glass windows.

The hotspring waters are soft, transparent, and free of taste or smell. These waters will warm your body to its core, alleviate fatigue, and help you achieve beautiful skin. Both baths include sauna facilities.

Private Open-air Baths
There are two private open-air baths on the 2nd floor of the East building. Enjoy a relaxing bath while gazing over the bayberry tree and the Izu Sea.

Japanese Garden
The trees growing in our natural gardens are 400–500 years old. ABBA resort was designed with the preservation of the trees in the surrounding areas in mind.

Samurai Swords Gallery – Gi no Kokoro
We The owner’s private colleciton of Samurai swords, a number of valuable, precious works are on display. In the near future, we plan on displaying rare works exhibited for the first time in Japan.

Banquet Hall
The banquet hall may be used for social gatherings, banquets, exhibitions, after-parties, corporate events, and the like. The hall is also a perfect place for meetings.

Recreation Room
A recreation room with Mahjong tables is found on the 1st floor of the South Wing. The rooms are completely sound proof to prevent noise from leaking outside, allowing guests to use these rooms late into the night. Guests may order drinks in these rooms.

Tea house Yamamomo-An Hermitage
Experience an authentic Japanese tea ceremony in a real Japanese tea room with Nijiriguchi. Guests enter through an extremely small entrance by bowing their heads low.

Area Activities
In April 2018, the Izu Peninsula was accredited by UNESCO as the ninth natural “World Geopark” in Japan because of its valuable geology and topography.
Mt. Fuji is also located in Shizuoka Prefecture.

The area offers plentiful opportunities to enjoy sports, nature, gourmet cuisine, art, historical exploration, etc. A myriad of experiences that we cannot even begin to introduce here are waiting for you at Izo.

Jogasaki Coast

A deeply indented shoreline with a cliff at a height of 30 to 40 m, the Jogasaki Coast was formed approximately 4000 years ago by eruptions of a volcanic cluster.
View the beautiful landscape as you walk down the Jogasaki Picnic Course boardwalk that was created along the coast or around the extended bridge.

Mt. Fuji

Considered the symbol of Japan, Mt. Fuji is considered a world heritage site. Worshiped as a god since ancient times, the mountain’s unparalleled beauty will fulfill your heart’s desires. Izu has numerous viewpoints from which to behold this magnificent figure.

Jogasaki suspension bridge

Two bridges can be found in the nature research trail 6 km between Yawatano and the ocean park, namely, the Kadowaki Bridge and the Hashidate Bridge.

Spanning 23 m above the sea, Kadowaki Bridge is a well-known suspension bridge in Jougasaki, and one can view a kaleidoscope of the sea from it.
Hashidate Bridge near Yawatano is 60 m long and provides tourists with quite a thrilling experience.

Cherry Blossoms at Izu Highlands
Approximately 3,000 cherry trees from 40 different varieties from all over the country are grown in this park and bloom one after another between the months of September and June.

This location has been certified as one of the top 100 sites in Japan for cherry blossoms. In the autumn, the sight of cosmos flowers is sure to please the eyes.

Ipekiko Lake

Lake Ippeki is the largest natural lake in the Ito Peninsula. It is gourd shaped and has a circumference of 4 km. Guests can enjoy boating, fishing for deep-bodied crucian carp, or lure fishing.

Another popular activity is bird-watching while following the trail because one may find a variety of cute, wild birds that live in Izu. In the autumn, the crimson foliage is reflected in the lake to create a stunning sight.

Relax and enjoy a fishing day
The name Zagyosoh, which is the original Japanese name of ABBA Resorts, is inspired by the Chinese historical character Jiang Taigong and denotes a peaceful time of fishing.

Have a relaxing stay, and connect with your soul as time passes by in the ocean of Izu. Guests can ask our chefs to cook the fish (e.g., Isaki (Grunt) and Aji (horse mackerel)) that they caught.

There are various golf courses in the resort, and you can fully enjoy golf while being surrounded by wonderful natural features.

Hot Springs hopping in Izu

Izu is well know for its many hot springs flowing all ovet the peninsula. Since long ago, many great Japanese literary figures have also spent time here, pruducing many great works based on those visits.

The stunning view of the Pacific Ocean from outdoor bath or jacuzzi at Akazawa Onsen Day Spa, which is a 5-minute drive from us. As shown in the photo, even in capybaras in the open-air bath at Izu Shaboten Zoo.
