From 1067 right up until the 1970s the Saltmarshe Estate remained in the same family. Kate and Roland Whyte moved to Saltmarshe in 2012 and are only the third family in 900 years to own the Hall.

They have lovingly restored the current Georgian Grade II listed Hall with a dash of style and elegance combining both traditional and contemporary charm. Set in 17 acres of stunning parkland, Saltmarshe Hall is a truly unique get away.

Saltmarshe Hall is a historic 19th century stately home located in mature parkland in the secluded countryside of Yorkshire, with 14 luxury rooms, a three bedroom converted stable house and two bedroom cottage based on the estate, it holds a variety of exquisite accommodations to choose from.

The grounds offer extensive lawns, wooded areas and a secluded walled garden which contains an array of colour with its kitchen garden, hornbeam hedges and bordered walkways.

HOWDENSHIRE SUITE

Luxurious and spacious, the Howdenshire Suite is the perfect room for the ultimate retreat. This suite is in the prime position to enjoy the beauty of the Saltmarshe grounds and surrounding riverside habitat. Overlooking the river, you can relax and unwind in comfort.

SALTMARSHE SUITE

Located in the corner of the house with stunning views of the gardens and the river beyond, this principal bedroom would have been occupied by the lady of Saltmarshe Hall at the time when it was built. We have lovingly taken it back in time by using rich raw silk wall coverings, opulent satins and gilt accents.

BLACKTOFT SUITE

The theme around this room is developed around the history of the previous occupants of the house, Philip Saltmarshe and his career as a Hussar.

The fabrics, furniture & colours reflect the flamboyant uniform. The deep reds and studded furniture are strikingly contrasted with quilted flannels and soft leather help to create its romantic charm.

LAXTON SUITE

Laxton is a very traditional room situated at the side of the house, it looks out on to the front lawns and parkland. The Laxton Suite boasts a spacious ensuite including a large bath for two, so you can kick back relax and pretend you are Lord and Lady of the Manor for a while.

THE NORTH WING

Over the past several months we have been crafting the long awaited North Wing, situated in the front side of the building it consists 6 new rooms across our already stunning portfolio. Previously an old servants’ wing, it had laid dormant for around 80 years as we understand it.

It was an interesting piece of history because there were still remnants of the old wallpaper, some old bedsteads and even the old WCs. Given the age of the house, there was a real balance of bringing the wing back to life and restoring its old charm.

Each room has been hand-styled and re-decorated around the character of each one, ensuring your desired experience is right there to choose from.

YORKSHIRE SUITE

Located in the corner of the house with stunning views of the gardens and the parkland, this bedroom is our most recent project. The room itself boasts a mixture of both traditional and contemporary features, as well as a stunning ensuite.

We’ve spent an extensive amount of time developing this suite in particular to ensure its elegance is just as breathtaking and luxurious as our other suites. Fitted with its own snug, this beautiful Suite is also perfect for longer stays.

GARDENER’S COTTAGE

If it’s a cosy, secluded weekend away, then our 2 bedroom Gardener’s Cottage is the place to be. This stunning property holds a wow factor in every room, with a beautifully thought out, consistently themed touch throughout the whole cottage, it’s every interior designer’s dream… With its bespoke furniture and warm, cosy atmosphere, its the perfect place to take a holiday retreat.

SALTMARSHE STABLES

With three double bedrooms and a spacious kitchen area, our Coach House is just a short walk from the main house with incomparable views over the walled gardens and pond.

The coach house is a perfect base for families or groups of friends wanting to explore the glories of the parkland and associated nature reserves. Located in the grounds it offers the space and freedom of a home-from-home but with the convenience of the hall on your door step.

AFTERNOON TEA
Afternoon tea was introduced in England by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, in the year 1840. The Duchess would become hungry around four o’clock in the afternoon. The evening meal in her household was served fashionably late at eight o’clock, thus leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner.

The Duchess asked that a tray of tea, bread and butter (some time earlier, the Earl of Sandwich had had the idea of putting a filling between two slices of bread) and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her.

This pause for tea became a fashionable social event. During the 1880’s upper-class and society women would change into long gowns, gloves and hats for their afternoon tea which was usually served in the drawing room between four and five o’clock.

We serve afternoon tea between 12pm and 5pm most days of the week. We do ask you to pre book your table in case we have an exclusive use event on.
