San Domenico House London

An intimate, very private boutique hotel situated close to Sloane Square, in the heart of Chelsea, comprising 19 individually themed bedrooms and suites each furnished with an extraordinary variety of valuable antique furniture and art.

A fine treasure hidden away in a quiet residential corner of Chelsea, close to Sloane Square, San Domenico House is a boutique townhouse hotel brimming with an elegant mix of sumptuous interiors, eclectic antiques and Latin personality.

Recently extended and redesigned, the hotel offers 19 delightful luxury rooms and suites, and a bespoke room service menu to complement the outstanding selection of fine and Michelin-starred restaurants within easy strolling distance. San Domenico House embodies all the charisma and verve one associates with la dolce vita.

San Domenico House is probably one of the very last contemporary hotels in central London with such a storied heritage. To walk into the townhouse hotel is to experience a world which perfectly balances history and tradition, English eclectic design with a glamorous Italian ‘La Dolce Vita’ flair.

It is a hotel with history but perfectly suited to the modern day. The beautiful, entrancing red brick building was built circa 1887 as a private residence and remained so until the 1950’s.

The Victorian style building encapsulates the changing times from a postwar London stately home through the 50’s, into the liberated creative culture of Chelsea’s swinging sixties, and later as separate apartments, before, finally in the 90’s it was restyled as a luxury boutique hotel.

Transformed originally into The Sloane Hotel by famed interior designer, Sue Rogers, who aimed to emulate the design of her home: a treasure trove of carefully sourced and curated antiques, paintings, and collectibles.

The hotel space was then sold in 1999 to a tasteful French lady, Delphine Geron, whom embarked on an expansion into No.31 Draycott Place. In 2005, the hotel was bought by the entrepreneurial and widely respected Italian family, Melpignano, as part of their luxury hotel portfolio.

They have brought a contemporary, stylish European touch and charm to the hotel whilst staying true to the original story and traditions.

Each of the 19 bedrooms are individually designed and remain consistent with the original vision; walking into each room is to experience a mini masterpiece of its own, from four poster beds, sweeping pelmets, an eclectic mix of Royal portraits, lace fabric detailing, Victorian mirrors and panoramic views.

San Domenico is a world within a hotel – it is a curated story of its own. The hotel has welcomed profilic artists, designers, writers and leaders through its doors over the years – and speaks to anyone who desires a sense of unapologetic taste and style. It is quite simply a unique place which offers guests not just a ‘hotel’ stay but a ‘home’ to build memories.

ROOMS & SUITES
All 19 rooms and suites boast individually themed and exceptionally designed interiors, with paneled walls and ragged paintwork complimented by exquisite fabrics and eclectic antiques collected by the owners during their travels. Some feature rare original pictures from 18th century Italian and English Art Schools; several have a small balcony/terrace overlooking Chelsea.

JUNIOR SUITE
The most spacious of the suites at San Domenico House, the Junior Suites feature high ceilings, ragged paint and panelled walls and all are furnished with exquisite antiques including a muralled mantel piece mirror and Toile de Jouy fabrics.

All Junior Suites include a large sitting and desk area with plasma screens. In spite of its name, the Junior Suite is the largest of all San Domenico House’s room types, boasting a spacious floorspace of 40 m2 (430 ft2).

Ideal for any kind of visitor looking to stay in one of the finest and most exquisite boutique hotels London, it’s undeniably a home away from home for those seeking more than a touch of luxury along with supreme comfort.

Although they comply with the overall decorative theme you’ll find throughout our property (high ceilings, ragged yet aesthetically appealing paintwork and panelled walls), each of these luxury suites London nonetheless offer up their own individual, nuanced visual style.

This is, in part, achieved through the distinctive rich, warm, Toile de Jouy fabrics they each feature, as well as their beautiful antique touches, such as muralled mantelpiece mirrors.

Moreover, you’ll find every one of them contain state-of-the-art technological features that ensure your stay isn’t just as blissful as possible from an aesthetic point of view, but also from a homely, comfortable standpoint – such features include the likes of air conditioning, plasma flat screen TVs and complimentary Wi-fi Internet access as standard, in addition to an en-suite bathroom/ shower, a full-size double bed, two elegant chairs and an antique table.

GALLERY SUITE
Gallery Suites in San Domenico House are truly unique featuring stunning four poster beds specially designed and they are decorated in rich, warm fabrics sourced from many English and Italian designers. All Suites are from 35 sqm and offer a cosy sitting room area complete with sumptuous sofa, antique table and comfy chairs.

With an exquisite-looking four-poster-bed operating as the room’s focal point, every one of our luxurious Gallery Suites here at San Domenico House is a wonder to behold whatever kind of visiting guest you may be – whether you’re relishing the chance of enjoying a short-stay getaway with that someone special or you’re looking to live it up and take advantage of luxury suites London while in town on business.

That said, though, each of our Gallery Suites also possesses its own specific, unique stylings – while also conforming to the dedicated feel for Victoria-era-inspired furnishings that sets our property apart from many other boutique hotels London.

So, featuring as they do rich, warm fabrics courtesy of a number of different British and Italian designers, these 35m2 (376 ft2) suites are ideal for those looking for more than a compact base for their stay, however beautifully furnished that may be.

Each of our Gallery Suites comes complete with a raised gallery, a sumptuous settee, an antique table and comfortable chairs. And they, of course, also boast an en-suite bathroom/ shower and state-of-the-art technological fixtures and fittings that you’d expect in a suite of any of the highly recommended hotels near Chelsea.

DELUXE ROOM
The Deluxe Double Bedrooms are extremely spacious (32sq.m), feature high ceilings and all are individually themed and designed with treasured antiques collected by the Italian Family ownership. These rooms are very homely due to the wall painting effects and rich warm fabrics individually chosen from famous designers.

As spacious and undeniably comfortable as they are tastefully luxurious, our Deluxe Double suites each boast a total floor space of 32m2 (344 ft2), as well as a plethora of gorgeous fabrics and features in rich, warm shades and Victoria-style trim and style – features that will at once make you feel indulged and in a very special environment for a very special occasion while also entirely at home.

This isn’t an easy balancing act to pull off, don’t doubt it; so it’s to the credit of the stylists who’ve created and crafted the appearance of our Deluxe Doubles that they’re achieved this perfect blend of the aspirationally ornate and unequivocally cosy.

Blessed with treasured antiques courtesy of San Domenico House’s Italian family owners, each Deluxe Double room can also claim to be individually themed when it comes to their fixtures and fittings, ensuring that although – like the rest of the hotel rooms London in our property – they conform to the understated opulence that’s the hallmark of this particular example of boutique hotels near Sloane Square, but also strike out with their own sense of discrete style.

No question; the Deluxe Double suite is the perfect base for your stay in London, whether on a get-away-from-it-all short-break or a spoil-yourself-while-in-town business trip at one of the finest hotels in Chelsea London.

CHELSEA, SOUTH KENSINGTON & KNIGHTSBRIDGE
San Domenico House is located in the splendid, sophisticated environs of Chelsea, one of the most elegant and aspirational districts not just in London, but the whole of the UK.

In fact, ours is a beautiful townhouse hotel London set in one of the quiet, prized streets of ‘Old Chelsea’; our building having been built in 1887 and used as a private residence before becoming the boutique hotel Knightsbridge it is today.

We feel it’s our duty for the interior of our accommodation to reflect the style and atmosphere of the surrounding area – and how unique and rarefied that style and atmosphere is.

The street in which you’ll find us is lined with classic Victorian townhouses with red-brick facades, as are many other nearby streets, giving off more than an air of refined luxury and high desirability.

Meanwhile, just a few steps away are the world-renowned King’s Road shopping options and, beyond them, the globally recognised department stores that are Harrods and Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge, while the glorious neighbourhood of South Kensington is home to the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) and the Royal Albert Hall.
