The Mandrake Hotel London

The Mandrake is an award-winning, luxury, boutique hotel in the heart of London’s Fitzrovia and the perfect base in which to discover the city. Having won ‘Top Three Best Hotels in Europe’, we offer the culture of Soho, the shopping of Oxford Street and the nightlife of London’s West End all on our doorstep.

Step past our gates on Newman Street, away from the bustle of central London and enter into a different state of mind. Every aspect of The Mandrake has been curated and designed to offer an immersive and unforgettable experience.

From our three-story-high surrounding walls of jasmine and passionflower, that form the living heart of the hotel, to our priceless and eclectic art collection that includes works from the likes of Salvador Dali, Francesco Clemente and Jonas Burgert.

We encourage our guests to stay beyond themselves; to visit our Global award-winning Jurema terrace with adjoining glasshouse apothecary, try Waeska bar for an Ethnobotanical cocktail or dine on locally sourced cuisine in YOPO.

Our Cultural Programming, designed to ensure you ‘Stay Beyond Yourself’, include our Artist in Residence (AiR) and our Spiritual Wellbeing programmes.

ROOMS & SUITES
Our rooms combine custom furniture built by the best British craftsmen paired with vintage pieces from London and Paris. Elegant simple lines, lush velvet headboards and fabrics with a geometric flair create sculptural comfort in each uniquely designed room.

Every room is different with bespoke French rugs, vintage chandeliers, mid-century brass furniture and, here and there, a chaise longue for day-time reclining. The bathrooms combine tailored marble vanities with shimmering hammered metal accessories.

Additionally, the bespoke joinery in every room has been designed for its guests to enjoy an open setting. It’s a space where the cupboards, housing a decadent smoked mirror minibar, can be left exposed as a feature in the room to enjoy a cocktail while getting dressed for a night out in London.

On dark timber floor, all these elements sit amidst an array of coloured walls from soft pinks, elegant greys to the richest tones, suiting every mood. An understated palette of materials combines seamlessly with eclectic furnishings to create a unique design that inspires and delights our international clientele.

THE PENTHOUSE SUITE
We have welcomed some of the most recognisable faces in the world into our marbled eagles’ nest over the past two years. Actresses, musicians and directors have all called our Penthouse Suite home while they have been in the capital.

Exotic foliage, bespoke sculptures and floor to ceiling windows all lead to our Penthouse being announced as the best in London by GQ. There is only one and there is no other like it. Encased in white Veronese Bookend marble, The Penthouse bed is so vast that the cashmere mattress had to be custom-made.

The eight-person dining table makes this a space that is as conducive to private celebrations and parties as it is to romantic getaways. However, the six-person jacuzzi bath with retractable roof opening up to the London night sky, definitely suggests that this is a place where people come together.

This is a bedroom where senses run wild and guests are guaranteed to ‘Stay Beyond Themselves’. This space also hosts a myriad of events and parties; from academy award winners private celebrations through to intimate romantic getaways.

Our team are on hand to exceed your wildest expectations – whether it is a totally bespoke menu served at the rooms 8 person dining table or a private Shamanic healing (chosen from the in-room Spiritual Wellbeing menu).

THE MANDRAKE SUITE
We decided to create a place to entice your imagination when we created the Mandrake Suite. A sumptuous and opulent affair, The Mandrake Suite is draped in a textural contrast of velvets, silks and satins that provoke touch.

At the heart of the bedroom is a Bedouin-style tented bed, overlooking an open plan bathroom with a free-standing claw-foot bath tub, surrounded in silver wave marble. Enveloped in darkness, this is a bedroom you enter and struggle to leave.

THE JUNIOR SUITES
Our two Junior Suites are opulently designed with Parisian jewel-toned velvets, gilded mirrors, metallic coffee tables, curvaceous wing chairs and one-of-a-kind works of art.

The bathrooms are equally paired with claw-foot bath tubs and double sinks, set under crystal chandeliers. A visual feast, these are some of the most glamorous and sought after bedrooms in London. 452 ft² / 42 m²

THE YOPO TRIBE RESTAURANT
Following on from his journey through Argentina, Chile and Peru, Chef George Scott-Toft has created menus at YOPO inspired by South American cuisine.

From indigenous Amazonian ingredients, to low-intervention Argentinian wines and traditional dishes perfected over generations, it was an educational feast of food and culture which we are proud to share with you from our London restaurant.

Exporting the bold flavours of Buenos Aires, Santiago and Lima and bringing them to London, we are delighted to showcase these alongside the very finest seasonal and regional produce available.

Much of South American culture is about gathering together and we encourage guests to start their experience at YOPO with a selection of sharing plates. These include tasting dishes such as empanadas with octopus, artichoke and olives and crudo of seabass with blood orange and mango.

YOPO is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the lounge, with its own entrance on Newman Street, is open all day with a light snack menu and coffees.  We can cater for bubbles of up to six people in the restaurant or if you would prefer something more intimate, we have private dining Cabanas.

JUREMA SUNDAY BRUNCH
Complete with South American feasting dishes, unlimited sides, show stopping cocktails and live DJ sets. From Sunday the 30th May Jurema will welcome Sunday brunches from 12pm – 4pm again.

The sharing course brunch menu will offer feasting dishes inspired by Executive Chef George Scott-Toft’s travels through South America, alongside tempting cocktails to re-energise, refresh and kickstart the day. The menu, devised with classical cooking techniques, uses only the finest produce, chosen at their prime.

To start, guests can indulge on a selection of small plates, designed for the table, including Octopus, artichoke & olive empanada, Crab & corn tostada, sea herbs & lime and Burrata, grilled purple broccoli, ancho, onion & Mexican tarragon.

For mains, dishes will include (but not limited to) Skirt Steak Tacos, Grilled Spring Onion, White Beans & Sweet Peppers, Lobster Benedict and Aubergine, Chickpea miso, Artichoke & Salad of Herbs.

The talented team at The Mandrake’s Waeska bar have created a collection of three cocktails, perfectly paired to the brunch menu, and theatrically made to order at the table from a cocktail trolley.

The cocktails include the YOPO Loco, a blend of Casamigo mezcal, chipotle & lemon, the Naughty Margarita, a mix of Casamigos tequila blanco, agave & black salt and the Tipsy Lady, a blend of vodka, maraschino, rhubarb, vanilla cordial and grapefruit.

From 12pm, DJ Nikolina will take to the decks with her signature mix of deep house, tech house, indie house, and melodic house while guests dine on dishes exporting the flavours of Buenos Aires, Santiago and Lima.

For those who wish to dine more intimately with their households, a private dining room is tucked behind the main restaurant while The Mandrake Cabanas offer exclusive and unique private drinking and dining spaces that open onto the Jurema’s oasis terrace.

THE MANDRAKE’S PRIVATE CABANAS
Have you ever dreamed of your own private oasis cabana deep in Fitzrovia? Imagine a secret space where you and your Tribe can gather to drink, feast and enjoy themselves.

Somewhere that offers a unique blend of both privacy and being in the heart of the action — a place where long summer evenings are cocooned by music and laughter drifting around you. Our Private Cabanas are private dining at its best, catering for up to 6 people and offering a private bathroom and direct access onto Jurema terrace.

PRIVATE DINING
The Private Dining Room is an exquisite, red lacquered space in which 28 individual paint processes have created an extraordinary setting that is both distinguished and dramatic in London’s West End. The dining room can cater for 20 guests and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It can also be reserved at any other time of day for events, meetings or discussions.

DRINKS
We have three bars, a booth and a library, all with different atmospheres. Waeska bar is the trendy cocktail bar of The Mandrake. Enjoy a drink made by some of London’s finest bartenders in an elegant & arty setting. Alternatively, we have Jurema Terrace…

A laid back cabana affair surrounding by an evergeen canopy of lush jasmine and passionflower. YOPO bar is the tranquil spot for any meetings you might have or for pre-dinner drinks.

WAESKA
As you enter Waeska bar your eye is immediately drawn to the collection of treasured artifacts, objets d’art and priceless artworks, housed behind the expansive labradorite bar. However, your attention is soon taken by the list of ethnobotanical cocktails, created by the expert team of in-house mixologists.

The cocktail menu is founded on ethnobotany – the study of a region’s plants and their practical uses through the traditional knowledge of a local culture and people.

Through experimentation and personal research of ancient herbs and botanicals, Waeska offers an evolving menu of cocktails that surprise and tempt. In the summer months, the retractable doors from the bar open onto a private courtyard with enormous 152 year old potted Tasmanian Ferns.

SPIRITUAL WELLBEING
The Mandrake is here to ensure you stay beyond yourself and awaken your soul. We have a weekly events programme that is curated on a spectrum of Spiritual Wellbeing; from intimate restorative sound healing sessions, bespoke shamanic ceremonies and rituals right through to energy cleansing work; offering the antidote to hectic city life and a place of discovery.

Our guides are carefully hand selected, they are the best in their fields. Sound healing is an ancient practice, one which is used to guide people into a state of deep relaxation and peace.

Various musical instruments, including gongs, crystal bowls, conches and tibetan bowls are played to put the mind into alpha and then theta brainwave rhythm, this enables the mind to expand consciousness and go into a dream like state.

This deeply meditative place enables healing on not only an emotional level, but also cellular, with the sound vibrations and the frequencies bathing every cell of the body to give a ‘sonic massage’. Participants end the session relaxed, rejuvenated and sometimes having a deeply transformative experience.

THE MANDRAKE’S ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAMME
The Mandrake pulsates with creativity, passion, and expression. More than a luxurious hotel with a constantly evolving curated art on display, The Mandrake in Fitzrovia, regularly hosts emerging and established artists and performers, for interactive sessions that truly feed into the hotel’s ‘stay beyond yourself’ philosophy.

The Mandrake’s Artist in Residence programme (AiR) strives to provide an interactive playground, where artist and visitor interact in the hotel’s exquisitely designed spaces to create original, unique, provocative, and live works of art.

Hotel guests and visitors witness close-hand the creative process of our artists and are often part of the work itself, becoming an essential element of the photo, tattoo, painting, mural, or music that is created. With this in mind we invite each Artist to collaborate with us and immerse themselves in The Mandrake and to take up residency in Studio 5.

ART IN THE MANDRAKE
The artwork at The Mandrake embodies the spirit and soul of the spaces that you encounter. They communicate with you as you enter a room with excitement, provocation and contemplation. Often playing with the narratives of darkness and light, there is a common theme amongst the collection …

Works are provocative, sensual, exotic, beautiful, fun and sometimes even dark, but always creative. Each and every piece has been sourced for the specific area it occupies.

Where the perfect work has not been found, artists have been commissioned to work closely with the space and ethos of the hotel to create a new piece. In this way, these artists become permanently connected with the soul of the hotel.

THE MANDRAKE LIBRARY
The library at The Mandrake is a collection of arts, photography, fashion, design and literature books curated specially for the hotel, featuring a selection of monographs on artists whose works are represented in the building.

These figures include Jonas Burgert, Francesco Clemente, Marius Bercea and Francis Bacon. Guests are always welcome to borrow and immerse themselves in this eclectic array of beautiful editions for the duration of their stay.
