Englar Castle, which has been owned by the Counts of Khuen-Belasi for nearly 400 years, is the best preserved gothic castle in all South Tyrol. It lies nestled amongst the orchards and vineyards of the enchanting sun-kissed hills in the south of the region.

The castle opens its doors to welcome travellers who appreciate the stylish yet snug atmosphere of these history-steeped walls.

The ensemble of buildings, set amongst old cedars, also includes the gothic chapel of St. Sebastian, an agricultural farm, and a farm with donkeys and horses, free range chickens and geese, and a duck pond. Time moves slowly here!

Hotel
The 500-yr old west wing of the castle was converted into a hotel in 1985. Visitors approach the gothic entrance hall through a romantic courtyard with ancient cedars. A wide staircase leads up to the great hall with its oriel windows and open fireplace. Here, everyone can find a cosy corner to relax.

Breakfast is served each morning in the gothic vaulted hall, or out in the sunny gardens by the castle wall, with panorama views over the valley. Various gardens are grouped around the main building.

Old trees offer plenty of shade, whilst the swimming pool enjoys a sunny location and offers views over to the far-away Dolomites.

The castle was renovated in 2014/2015. Rooms were restored to their original size, resulting in fewer rooms, but adding greatly to the feeling of harmony and spaciousness. All bathrooms were renovated.

Today, the castle boasts eight charming rooms to sleep up to 16 guests. These include four double rooms and four junior suites. Each room is different and unique.

Rooms
Our hotel offers eight charming rooms over 3 floors, lovingly decorated and furnished by the mistress of the castle. In some places, period furniture has been added to the original furnishings, giving each room a special character of its own. On each floor, a junior suite has been positioned next to a double room.

The large tower room on the third floor includes a living area and a bedroom, and features a delightful hidden balcony between the steep roofs. The original stucco ceilings have been retained in some of the rooms, whilst other rooms feature carved timber ceilings dating from the Renaissance.

Each room is different and has a truly unique atmosphere. All bathrooms were renovated. Due to the nature of the building, there is no lift. We therefore recommend guests do not bring oversized luggage. Free WiFi is included in all rooms.

Suite on the 3rd floor, completely renovated in 2015, bedroom with passage to the living area, 52 m², unobserved south-facing balcony between the castle roofs, bathroom with shower, hairdryer, room safe and free WiFi.

Winyard
Our goal is excellent wines; and these require the balanced growth of grapevines in a healthy environment, with the right grape varieties matched the soil texture and microclimate and the right choice of trellising.

We attach great importance to natural methods of grape cultivation and employ careful methods to achieve the distinctive character of each type of wine we produce. We have consciously worked to reduce the yield per hectare of grapes in order to ensure the harvest of high-quality grapes.

The cellar
The cellar is equipped with state-of-the-art technical facilities. The cellar’s current capacity is 40,000 bottles and will increase year by year.

Appiano
Your holiday in this enchanting environment you will not be so quickly forgotten. If you enjoy excursions, is Appiano at the South Tyrolean Wine Road is an ideal starting point for many destinations in the vicinity and in the whole of South Tyrol.

Tours and tracks
The time between Easter and All Saints is in Appiano in the heart of the South Tyrolean Wine Road probably the best time to hiking.

Swimming
The large and small Montiggler lakes are ideal for swimming in the summer months. Surrounded by trees and hills, they create a special atmosphere. At the swimming pool in the large lake, parents can have a bit of a rest while the children enjoy the entertainment.
