About Sibuya Game Reserve
Malaria-free Sibuya Game Reserve is an Eco destination which is positioned on the Sunshine Coast of the Eastern Cape, approximately 130 kms from Port Elizabeth or East London.

Guests are welcomed at Sibuya’s Reception which is situated near the Kariega River mouth in the small seaside town of Kenton-on-Sea, where safe parking is provided.

The adventure starts with a gentle meandering 11km boat transfer from the River mouth and Kenton’s idyllic Blue Flag beaches, up the stunning Kariega River Estuary to the Reserve, setting the tone for the unique experience to follow – from the Ocean to the Bush.

Guests are either based at one of the two solar-powered, secluded luxury tented Camps tucked away in the forest on the banks of the Kariega River or at stunning Bush Lodge situated just outside the main Reserve in a pristine, densely forested valley.

Sibuya Game Reserve incorporates the unique East Cape Valley Bushveld, Grasslands and Coastal Forests. Antelope abound, including the rare Bontebok and Oribi. Elephants, Giraffe and Zebra silhouetted against an Indian Ocean backdrop complete a truly memorable picture.

The ancient floodplains and pristine coastal forest host an abundance of wildlife: nearly 400 bird species and 45 species of wildlife including the “Big Five”. The lush vegetation ensures a high density of animals and one of the best game-viewing experiences in the country is guaranteed.

The following three Accommodation options are available – each one with its own unique unforgettable ambience: River Camp, Forest Camp and Bush Lodge

RIVER CAMP – ECO-DESTINATION

The Camp recommended for families with children visiting Sibuya.

A fascinating 11km boat-ride up the Estuary from the seaside village of Kenton-on-Sea brings you to the jetty at River Camp. Only four spacious luxury en-suite tents skilfully hidden in the riverine forest maximize privacy for each tent and ensure an exclusive and personalised experience.

Every tent has its own cosy fireplace to ensure a snuggly warm environment on chillier nights. Professional and passionate staff ensure a time to be spoilt and make memories to treasure.

These enormous 75 m2 tents with sleeper couches that convert to two single beds for children sharing, ensure plenty of space for the whole family.

River Camp is suitable for children of all ages. For guests with children under three years a baby sitter is highly recommended to allow parents time off to enjoy the game drives.

As this is an Eco-friendly destination, the electricity is supplied by means of Solar Power with gas back-up – when necessary – which means there are limitations – no air-conditioners, fans, hair-dryers, TV etc. and limited cell-phone coverage. Guests are encouraged to truly relax without these mod-cons.

River Camp
Discretely tucked into a small forest on the river bank, each tented room has been designed with its own unique layout in order to avoid felling trees and to protect as much of the site as possible.

A light and airy design lets nature’s sights and sounds flood into the generously proportioned guest areas, creating a sense of oneness with Nature.

Ground level pathways and large fold-out sofa beds make River Camp particularly well-suited for those with children sharing with their parents. Located on an ancient floodplain where an oxbow will one day form, the Camp affords views of the river from its secluded decks.

Delicious buffet-style meals with an African twist are accompanied by award winning South African wine, served in the boma or under the star-studded sky. For those having a three-day stay, picnics may also be arranged out on the Reserve or at the pristine Blue Flag beach at the nearby village of Kenton-on-Sea.

Sibuya’s Rangers, some of the most experienced in the business, take pride in organizing rewarding bush walks, fishing, personalized game drives and exclusive boat or canoe trips.

Their love of the environment and enthusiasm for their work is infectious, and guests will find them to not only be knowledgeable guides but also gracious hosts.

The purpose of a getaway is to relax! River Camp offers ample opportunity for guests to do this and few pastimes can be more conducive to relaxing than lying on a hammock with a book and listening to the birdsong in the trees.

At night, the soft glow of lanterns, distant roar of the ocean and the iconic African night sounds are the only distractions from the crackling outdoor fire.

Bush Lodge

This stylish bush destination, which mushrooms from an indigenous forested valley, is a classic thatched Lodge built with all the luxury and modern amenities to match.

At this stunning venue, guests are shown to their luxury accommodation & then have a delicious buffet-style lunch in the main Lodge or on one of the expansive decks.

All meals are buffet-style. We pride ourselves on fresh, unpretentious and tasty meals with an African twist. If notified before arrival, every effort is made to cater for dietary requirements.

Complimentary fine award winning South African wine is on offer and there is an additional wine list for the more discerning palate. These come at a nominal extra cost. Guests are welcome to bring their own preferred beverages or to notify us beforehand so that we can order in their requirements.

Overlooking the indigenous wooded valley below – spacious viewing decks surround the main Lodge and provide a paradise for Nature and bird-enthusiasts. A sparkling swimming pool is an inviting alternative to the Kariega River Estuary and is an ideal place to relax and refresh between game drives or other activities.

Bush Lodge is on the main electrical grid, so for those guests wanting a little more luxury and comfort in the way of electrical appliances, than our tented Eco-Destination Solar-powered River and Forest Camps, this is the ideal alternative.

A professional host and Rangers are available at all times to see to your every comfort. Bush Lodge welcomes children over the age of 12.

Accommodation
Bush Lodge has only four secluded luxury thatched suites so a relaxing, exclusive and personalized experience is guaranteed.

The stunningly appointed units are private, spacious and have a fully en-suite bathroom – with outside and inside showers and surrounding private viewing decks. Each suite has a tea/coffee station and for hot summer nights, air-conditioning.

A wood-burning fireplace adds a cosy touch for the cooler winter evenings. Comfortable King-size or Queen-size beds with fine crisp white linen ensure a wonderful restful night. Divans are available for children sharing with their parents.
