Skeabost began life as a Victorian hunting lodge in 1871, but there has been a home of some sort at Skeabost since Viking times when the name meant The Sheltered House.

Just a short walk from the hotel along the river you will discover ruins of two small chapels associated with St Columba – the first Christian missionary to Scotland. Skeabost has its own chapel, now a stunning private dining room and intimate wedding venue.

The River Snizort which runs through the grounds has the reputation for being one of the best salmon and trout fishing rivers on Skye. Lovingly restored and stunningly refurbished, this iconic historic hotel is an idyllic retreat in a jaw-dropping location on the Isle of Skye.

THE HISTORY
Inspired by a love of the sea and island life, The Sonas Collection story began with the nine bedroom Toravaig House in 2005. The vision of Ken Gunn and Anne Gracie Gunn soon saw the “ship ashore” combined with a luxury sailing experience on board the 36 foot “Solus”.

For eleven years experienced Sea Captain Ken and Coastal Skipper Anne combined their twin passions – hospitality and sailing. They took guests and hosted weddings on trips through the Sound of Sleat to the Small Isles and St Kilda.

The unique business model was an outstanding success and as demand grew the next addition to the Sonas Collection was the 2007 purchase and renovation of the Duisdale House, just three miles from Toravaig.

Eight years later the collection was complete with the addition of the iconic Skeabost House north of Portree. At that time, Anne’s daughter Jen and her family joined the business.

The three hotels have their own individual character, but the hallmark of the Sonas Collection is the contemporary Highland styling combined with unmistakable Highland Hospitality. The winning formula has seen Anne and Ken win many industry awards, including the prestigious VisitScotland Thistle Award for Scottish Hotel of the Year in 2015.

THE ETHOS

Located on the second floor of the hotel, this recently opened modern room has everything in mind to make your stay at Skeabost relaxing. There is a master bedroom with zip and link double bed which can also be used as a twin, along with the freedom of a separate bunk bed room for the children next door.

A feature which both adults and children alike will appreciate. For a touch of true luxury and relaxation, the suite has a separate walk in rainfall shower and stunning freestanding platinum bath.

GATE LODGE
Imagine a space where you can truly luxuriate in total privacy. Your own space to spend quality time together. With your own lounge, and private terrace for evening drinks, our modern Gate Lodge offers a romantic retreat away from the main hotel.

THE RESTAURANT
Overlooking Loch Snizort, the Pier View Restaurant at Skeabost serves a contemporary menu focussing on the best of Island cuisine, freshly made using only the finest locally sourced ingredients. After dinner, watch the sunset over the Loch from our patio, or relax and unwind by the fire with a local gin or malt from the cocktail bar.

THE AFTERNOON TEA

Skeabost is a proud for its dishes created from the freshest local produce. Our dining rooms are intimate, warm and immaculately presented. They set the perfect scene to appreciate skillfully cooked food prepared from the finest ingredients which the larders of Skye and its neighbours can yield.

Most of the produce comes from the island’s own hills, gardens, rivers and surrounding seas. On the menu, you’ll find choice venison, lamb and seafood, and vegetables and herbs from local gardens. Each dish is individually and meticulously cooked by our team of talented chefs.
