Spicers Guesthouse in the Hunter Valley offers a modern elegance where wine & exploration is the talk around the table. A five star hotel located in the heart of the Hunter Valley. You’ll feel a sense of relaxed luxury as soon as you arrive.

The Hunter Valley has played a pivotal role in the history of Australian wine with De Bortoli and Tyrrells being two of the First Families of Wine in Australia.

The region is now home to a wide variety of cellar doors and Spicers Guesthouse is perfectly located in Pokolbin, the heart of the region. The Guesthouse has been an iconic destination within the Hunter Valley for 35 years (circa 1984).

Having undergone an 18 month revitalisation the retreat has an inviting, homely feel that envelops guests once inside. The upgrade reflects a fresh contemporary uplift while the welcoming spirit of the original Guest House has been preserved.

Éremo Restaurant with its modern Italian cuisine is a centre piece of the retreat, led by a talented team, the experience is exceptional. The private dining room offers a unique experience for small private occasions while the variety of larger spaces are ideal for weddings and conferences.

Our Hunter Valley accommodation offers 49 guest rooms with 40 acres of grounds overlooking the surrounding mountain ranges and neighbouring vineyards.

The Cottage
Located a short stroll from reception, The Cottage is a classic country one story home decorated in a warm rustic style. The house is fully self-contained with four bedrooms, kitchen, dining and living room with open fire, verandahs and private courtyard.

Hunter Suite
Hunter Suites feature a king size bed, living room and a luxury bathroom with rain shower head and deep bath. Located on the first floor with a separate living room.

Garden Suite
The Garden Suites feature a king size bed, ensuite with a rain shower head and separate living area. Suites have a beautiful outlook onto the front lawn area.

King Room
King Rooms feature a king size bed and an ensuite. Located on the ground and first floor, these tastefully decorated rooms also have access to a communal guest lounge space on each level.

éRemo Restaurant | Modern Italian in the Hunter Valley
Modern contemporary Italian created by a talented team. The ethos of éRemo Restaurant is all about connecting with local producers and trialling one of a kind dishes making the éRemo experience, exceptional.

That experience comes together in our Avido menu, which means “greedy” in Italian. The menu is complemented by a well-travelled wine list, including some of the Hunter Valley’s best vintages and a selection of those from further a field.

Our stunning private dining room, which overlooks the valley and our famous Wine Wall, can be booked for up to 14 guests. Please note we change our menu daily based on what local produce we can get our hands on.

Executive Chef, Michael Elfwing came to éRemo restaurant from the Shangri-La Sydney in The Rocks, where he was executive chef, but his years in high-end hotel kitchens has been matched to time in the iconic Margaret River region at the prestigious Cape Lodge, and now in the serene vinous Hunter Valley at Spicers Guesthouse.

High Tea
The Balfour Kitchen & Bar is famous for their delectable high tea’s. With a large range of sweet and savoury treats plus a selection of champagnes and speciality teas, this high tea experience is perfect for any special occasion or no occasion at all.

Dine in the chic, stylish restaurant or on the wrap around verandah of the old Queenslander building or under the blossoming frangipani trees in the courtyard, the choice is yours. High tea is served once a month on a Saturday from 11:30am – 1:30pm with three sittings at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

A Taste of Hidden Vale
Join us at Spicers Hidden Vale for a celebration of the magnificent region we call home. Roam our picturesque grounds and embark on a marvelous culinary journey, featuring 5 courses from Executive Chef Ash Martin, each paired with an exquisite wine.

Sample some of our most popular experiences, including our Market Garden Tour, an ATV Tour of Hidden Vale Adventure Park and our Guided Billabong Hike (please note there is an additional cost for experiences).

Meetings at Guesthouse
Originally the meeting place for local wine makers, Spicers pays homage to this history preserving the welcoming spirit of the original Guest House, making it the ideal location to discover new ideas. Perfect for medium-sized events, the retreat offers a variety of spaces featuring an abundance of natural light.

Weddings at Guesthouse
Spicers Guesthouse features a contemporary design blended with a warm and welcoming spirit, the ideal mix for a unique and memorable wedding venue. A variety of locations for both the wedding and reception are available with 49 rooms including a four bedroom cottage for guests to stay overnight.

All-Inclusive Hunter Valley Wine Tour
Sit back, relax and let your guide Brendo take care of everything in this all-inclusive, exclusive small group tour that showcases the very best of the Hunter Valley.

Depart from Spicers Guesthouse reception and embark on a full day’s journey, visiting some of the Hunter’s more iconic vineyards as well as some more boutique smaller family-owned and operated ones.

Private Picnic
With 40 acres of grounds overlooking the surrounding mountain ranges and neighbouring vineyards, there are plenty of perfect spots to sit down and enjoy a private picnic for two.

Drinks at the Firepit
After enjoying an Italian feast at Éremo, sit out by the outdoor firepit and take in the views of the sparkling Hunter Valley sky. Sit back and relax with a nightcap in hand from around 8pm and mingle with other guests or simply take in the ambience of a glass of wine around the fire surrounded by nature.

Enjoy the Hunter by bike
Sip and cycle your way around the Hunter Valley with our complimentary bike hire. Beyond being well suited for growing wine grapes, the exceptional topography and climates of the Hunter Valley make it a stunning place to explore by bike.

Whether you’re looking for a meandering cruise or a challenging cycling trip, the region offers winery-speckled routes with unforgettable views. There is also an option to hire an electric bike for half a day, if you would prefer to reserve your pedal power for sipping power. The cost is $50 per bike per person.

If you decided to tour around the winery’s in the comfort of a car then take a leisurely ride around Pokolbin and take in the breathtaking views of the Broken Back Mountain Range as there is plenty to see and do along the way.

Fly over the Hunter Valley
Take the flight of a lifetime over Spicers Guesthouse and Australia’s oldest wine region, the Hunter Valley, with a sunrise hot air balloon flight.

Launching from your designated site, your Beyond Ballooning balloon will float above the picturesque cellar doors of Pokolbin, Lovedale, Rothbury or Broke to 2000 feet or more where you will feel the sensation of no movement at all as you glide effortlessly through the crisp morning air.

Your experience includes a 1 hour balloon flight, digital photo package and an à la carte breakfast to finish off your exhilarating morning.
