Cross Country Skiing

The oldest form of skiing, documented by 4000-year-old cave murals in Norway, provides one of the best ways of experiencing winter, improving fitness, and learning about the Jackson Hole area.

Grand Teton National Park offers visitors the chance to enjoy this sport at any skill level. Cross country ski beneath the majesty of the heart of the Teton Range.

The user friendly flats to Jenny Lake or the hills around Bradley-Taggert Lakes in Teton National Park offer something for everyone. Needless to say, there’s no better place to try Cross-Country skiing than beneath the majestic Tetons in Jackson Hole.

Downhill Skiing
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is rated Number 1 in North America by Forbes Magazine. Spring Creek Ranch offers free shuttles from your room to the base of the Tram.

Get some breakfast while you watch the sun rise against the Teton Mountain Range, grab your boards, get on the 8:15 AM shuttle that picks you up at your room, get dropped off at the base of the the Tram.

What could be easier? Jackson Hole is renowned for it’s steep and deep sliding, but there are plenty of slopes for all ability levels, and plenty of creature comforts to pamper you on your vacation.

Want some variety? Try Grand Targhee, on the west side of the Tetons. A bit of a drive, but this is the place your friends went for powder skiing when they won’t tell where.

Not many lifts and many acres of skiing, so if you are looking for uncrowded slopes, Grand Targhee is for you. If you want to let someone else do the driving, the Targhee Express provides you with a bus ride and a lift ticket.

Heli Skiing
Get ready for the experience of a lifetime with amazing powder skiing in remote helicopter-accessed areas. You’ll enjoy a fun-filled day in the pristine Teton backcountry.

Heli skiing is off-trail, downhill skiing that is accessed by a helicopter, not a ski lift. Heli skiing is essentially about skiing in a natural—albeit highly selected—environment without the effort or gear compromise required for hiking into these areas as in ski touring or ski mountaineering.

Dog Sledding
Jackson Hole Iditarod and Continental Divide Dogsledding each provide a one-of-a-kind over-snow travel experience.

Experience the rugged outdoors as the early explorers did. Learn how to drive or “mush” the dog sled or sit back and relax in your cozy, blanketed sled while you experience the winter wonderland.

No other method of travel over snow can compare with dog sledding. The only sounds are the commands of the mushers, the panting of the dogs, and the wind in your face. Many different and exciting trips are offered.

Snowmobiling
Snowmobiling is a quintessential and exciting Jackson Hole winter experience. Enjoy an adventure-packed day touring our forests and parks, looking for wildlife, exploring Yellowstone, traveling to a hot spring or simply searching for powder.

There are a wide variety of tours that are offered to meet your specific needs. For those wanting to make a full day out of their snowmobiling adventure, picnic lunches are often included and can be enjoyed at a beautiful, secluded spot with a view.

Snow Coach Tours

Yellowstone National Park is breathtaking in the snowy, winter months, but is only accessible by vehicles that can traverse the deep, deep snow. If riding a snowmobile doesn’t interest you, but seeing the Wyoming wildlife and majestic scenery does, a snow coach tour is the right option for you.

Wildlife Expeditions and Scenic Safaris provide comfortable coach buses that are outfitted with snow tracks and skis to easily transport your group over snowpacked roads. Spend the day in the comfort of a snow coach and get to see the remote areas of Yellowstone, and get an up-close look at Old Faithful.

Ice Skating
Jackson offers both indoor and outdoor skating rinks throughout the winter. Strap on some skates and enjoy the indoor ice at Snow King Resort. They have open skate every day from noon to 2pm. They also provide open-hockey and other organized activities.

Outside, at the base of Snow King, is another rink, perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. Or, if you’re lucky, you’ll be in town when Jackson’s quaint town square is frozen over and converted into an outdoor skating rink.

There’s nothing more picturesque than skating amongst the lighted evergreen trees and antler arches of the town square. Another option in Teton Village is to visit the rink surrounded by ice sculptures and skate to the music at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort behind the Mangy Moose.

Snowshoe Tours
Spring Creek Ranch’s resident naturalist invites you on a 1- 2 mile snowshoe excursion to find wild animal tracks! Journey into a breathtaking winter wonderland with snowshoes strapped onto your feet. After a scenic and informative drive through Jackson Hole, you will trek across the snow interpreting the landscape.

While looking for animals by their tracks and other signs, you will discuss local history, geology, and the natural history of the area. This family friendly activity provides a fun, easy alternative for Jackson Hole’s more horizontally inclined visitors. You know what they say – “If you can walk, you can snowshoe!”

Tubing
If you and your family like sledding, you’ll love snow tubing! Hop on top of an inflated inner tube and slide down a huge snowy chute to the bottom of the hill. Kids, teens and adults will all enjoy this silly and fun outdoor activity.

Fat Tire Bike Tours
Teton Mountain Bike Tours offers multiple fat tire bike tours in Grand Teton National Park throughout the winter season. Enjoy an amazing winter adventure atop a mountain bike with 4-5 inch tires.

Your local guide will show you snowy packed trails through pine forests and alpine meadows with great views of the Grand Teton Mountain Range! Experience Jackson Hole in a new way this winter!

Wildlife and Natural History Safaris
Welcome to the naturalist department at Spring Creek Ranch! We specialize in the wildlife and natural history of this region and offer year-round excursions into our surrounding national parks.

Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are both outstanding for wildlife watching and offer some of the most dramatic landscapes in North America. Once you spend time with one of our naturalists in the field, you will quickly see why we were in USA Today’s “Top 10 Wildlife Safaris” in North America.
