In 1969, Robert Redford bought the land now known as Sundance and envisioned the careful growth of a community committed to the balance of art, nature and community. Today, Sundance offers an atmosphere steeped in cultural heritage.

Sundance is a Community
Inspired by the Ute tribes that first inhabited this canyon and continuing through the early 20th century as the Stewarts, a family of Scottish immigrants homesteaded the area.

Sundance is an arts community, a recreational community, a community of people who appreciate the beauty of nature and feel the responsibility to preserve it.

Summer at Sundance
Explore miles of singletrack by foot or bike. Relax and unwind on a scenic lift ride or have the thrill of a lifetime on our ZipTour. Whatever you’re searching for, we have it here.

Soar Above Sundance
The Sundance ZipTour is one of the most exciting and scenic zip tours in the world, boasting over 2,100 feet of vertical drop — the most of any zip line tour in the United States.

Guests can ride side-by-side on the zip line’s double cables and control their speed, cruising up to 65 miles per hour, or stopping mid-air to take in the views.

Breathtaking Scenic Views
Once you reach the top, take time to explore designated hiking trails or just sit and enjoy the mountain’s tranquil beauty. If you are feeling extra adventurous, take Red’s lift further up the mountain and enjoy lunch at Bearclaw Cabin. The lift will be waiting to transport you back to the base.

Mountain Biking at Sundance
All Sundance trails are designed for uphill and downhill riding, and have excellent intermediate and advance trail riding. Take a ride on the lift and enjoy the thrilling descent over and over again.

Ski the Night Away
Sundance Mountain Resort has the majority of the front mountain open for night skiing during the winter season on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Some of the runs that are open include Top Gun, Montoya, Stampede, Maverick, and more. Also, new this year, the Terrain Park will be open on night skiing nights (conditions permitting).

Sundance Nordic Center
The Sundance Nordic Center offers 15 kilometers of groomed cross country ski trails for both classic and skating techniques.

The Nordic Center has developed a reputation for the quality of the grooming operations which occur on a nightly basis leaving untouched trails each morning with classic tracks and a wide skating lane. The trail network is laid out through pristine back country terrain creating a unique experience for all ability levels.

Events at Sundance
“People here come from all walks of life, but one belief is shared: our community should represent who we are and what we believe. Sundance is an arts community, a recreational community, a community of people who appreciate the beauty of nature and feel the responsibility to preserve it.

We want to help you find those elements of the Sundance experience which will most meet your needs and your dreams. As you’ll see, Sundance has many shapes, many moods, and many possibilities.

Somewhere in our community awaits an experience which belongs to you and we are committed to helping you find it.” – Robert Redford

Philosophy: Food as Art
At Sundance Mountain Resort, we believe that food is art and dining is communal. Come enjoy dining integrated with nature.

Tree Room
Enjoy the romantic atmosphere of candlelight and soft illumination accenting beautiful Native American art from Robert Redford’s private collection as you savor fresh, seasonal mountain cuisine.

The tables are surrounded by cochina dolls, pottery, large blankets, and photos from Redford’s films. Next to the tree is a large fireplace incorporating unique stone/concrete designed made by Robert Redford himself.

The building is designed with large windows to facilitate natural lighting and views of surrounding nature, especially magical with drifting snow and changing colors of the seasons. The dining philosophy incorporates modern French techniques with American comfort in a rustic Western, Rocky Mountain setting.

Sundance Weddings
Begin the most important day of your life among the towering pines nestled below Mount Timpanogos. Choose from an array of wedding ceremony and reception venues ranging from a 4200-square-foot grand hall to an 800-square-foot log cabin – each built to echo the beauty of the secluded and natural setting.

A Unique Destination Wedding
Sundance offers a unique mountain destination wedding opportunity. You and your guests can enjoy plenty of mountain activities ranging from horse back riding to zip line tours, and a spa to relax and rejuvenate before and after the big day.

Every day is Green at Sundance Mountain Resort.
Sundance Mountain Resort has a long standing history of Green policies, dating back to the property’s original purchase in 1969. Today, Sundance Mountain Resort continues to update and implement new techniques and technologies, staying at the forefront of environmental stewardship.

Both visitors and lodging guests can participate in our resort-wide recycling program. Sundance Mountain Resort recycles cardboard, cans, paper and plastic on-site.

Conservation Easements
Conservations Easements are the bedrock for preservation in the Sundance Northfork Canyon. Nestled at the base of 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos in Utah, the Sundance Mountain Resort calls the Sundance Preserve its home.

Protective covenants cover 3,343 acres of land along with the Redford Family Nature and Wildlife Preserve consisting of 860 acres of protected land.

The Sundance Preserve is dedicated to maintaining the balance of art, nature and community as well as the cultivation of independent, innovative thought among artists, scholars, scientists, public policy and business leaders.

Residing within the protected splendor of its own preserved lands, it is the mission of the Sundance Preserve to inspire action for the benefit of civil society.

Green Lodging
Guests who stay at Sundance Resort can participate in the linen re-use program, which saves water, energy, and reduces waste. All Sundance rooms are cleaned using non-toxic cleaning supplies, and guests are given the opportunity to recycle their paper, cans and glass products in their guest rooms.

Sundance water throughout the resort and in every lodging accommodation comes from local mountain-fed springs. Due to the purity of our water and in our effort to conserve whenever possible, we do not offer bottled water in our lodging units.

It is available for purchase on property, and we encourage guests to recycle the plastic bottles when finished.

A Message From Robert Redford and the Redford Center
My son James and I started The Redford Center: a non-profit organization set up to harnesses the power of documentary films and impact campaigns to help make the world a better place.

About four years ago The Redford Center set out to do something about climate change. We felt that the pervasive, apocalyptic climate story we were hearing was helping create urgency and awareness of the climate problem but it was not moving enough people into action.

This is why we created, The Happening Project, to make sure people are also hearing climate solutions stories and progress stories, understanding where they fit in, and making sure they know that their actions do matter and that they will be in good company if they get inspired to get involved.

At the center of The Happening Project is the latest Redford Center film, Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution, that James is directing and starring in.

It will air on HBO starting December 11, 2017 … It is our most ambitious project and is a direct response to the climate crisis—answering the questions: What can we do? Where is the hope?
