In the Schloss-Hotel (Castle Hotel) directly on the shores of Lake Lucerne, you can enjoy an unmistakable ambience in the 35 hotel rooms. The sauna, the roof terrace and the castle park on the lake with its own beach invite you to linger. In the lush gallery, a small self-service bar is open for you around the clock.

The restaurant Swiss-Chalet and the hotel bar are located in the Swiss-Chalet building, where the rich breakfast is also served. The breakfast buffet takes place from 6.30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The restaurant is open Monday-Friday from 6.30 a.m. to 14 p.m. and from 17.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. On the weekends from 6.30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

History
The Gerani village of Merlischachen on Lake Lucerne was first mentioned historically in 1168. Knight Hermanno de Merlascachen appeared here as a witness in a deed of donation.

The name Merlischachen itself is said to be a combination of the Latin names “Merula” for blackbird and the German word “Schachen” for small forest and thus means “Amselwäldchen”.

The lands as well as the fishing rights belonged to the monasteries of Lucerne and Engelberg. In 1440 Merlischachen went to the canton of Schwyz for 60 gold gulden and was united with Küssnacht.

Especially in Belgium Merlischachen and Küssnacht became famous because of the fatal traffic accident of the Belgian Queen Astrid, between these two places.

On the 50th anniversary of the death of Queen Astrid, a commemoration ceremony was held, in which King Boudewijn, Queen Fabiola, Prince Albert and his wife Paola, as well as the Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg, also took part.

In memory of the deceased Queen, the Astrid Hall was then inaugurated at a reception in our Swiss Chalet Merlischachen. Even today, various pictures in the Astrid Hall remind us of the Queen of yesteryear.

Typically Switzerland
Our Chalet-Hotel Lodge is a really cozy chalet, a wooden house from the 17th century, in the typical Swiss farmhouse style, offers a special ambience.

Low ceilings, lots of wood and creaking beams are an experience that you normally only find in the lofty heights of the mountains. Spend the night like Wilhelm Tell in original rooms with a checkered pattern in the Swiss colors, red & white.

Restaurant Swiss-Chalet
In the restaurant Swiss-Chalet you can expect the finest Swiss cuisine and our classics. Whenever possible, the dishes are prepared with products from the region or Switzerland. Our wine list has been awarded with the Swiss Wine List Award.

Our dishes are made with fresh and, if possible, regional products. We are proud to be a distinguished member of the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, a Caveau de Sabrage of the Confrérie du Sabre d’Or, as well as a participating establishment of “ächt SCHWYZ”.

Our wine list has been awarded with the Swiss Wine List Award. All our wines are stored in the unique wine cellar in the restaurant Swiss-Chalet. The wine cellar can be booked for aperitifs with smaller groups or for a romantic tête-à-tête.

Lunchtime
Lunch menus at the Restaurant Swiss-Chalet means enjoying a reasonably priced fine lunch in the cozy and elegant ambience of the Bränte or on our sunny terrace. Quickly prepared and quickly served, our lunch menus are ideal for guests passing through, office workers and craftsmen, families and business lunches.

Badi-Lounge Merlischachen
The Badi Merlischachen is probably one of the most beautiful in Switzerland and has been popular with young and old for years. The idyllic spot on the lake with its own beach can be used without admission. The food and beverage offer comes without frills.

You can expect a trendy atmosphere and every now and then an event highlight. Come by and experience the perfect mixture between family Badi and modern kiosk-restaurant. Be it during the day or on warm summer evenings by candlelight – in the Badi-Lounge there is a vacation atmosphere!

Various sports equipment such as stand-up paddle boards, e-bikes, canoes, table tennis bats, footballs or volleyballs can be rented. For the little guests there is a playground right next to the restaurant as well as a sandbox with sand toys.

Chalet-Bar
Our cozy chalet bar in the attic of the Trotte, surprises with its high ceilings, massive wooden beams and the unique interior. The best cocktails, cool champagne or a good glass of wine are the perfect way to end the evening.

Breakfast
The rich breakfast is served on the first floor of the Restaurant Swiss-Chalet. This always takes place from 06.30-10.00 o’clock. In summer and in warm weather you can enjoy breakfast on our terrace. The breakfast buffet is open to all guests.

Banquets & parties
Where once stood an old trotte, today the Astrid Hall delights our guests. A Biedermeier house, reconstructed under the supervision of the Heritage Society and dedicated to the Belgian Queen Astrid, will exceed your expectations.

The foyer in front of Astrid Hall is also inviting. Here your guests can get in the mood for the following event in the Astrid Hall. The Bacchus Hall, among others, is recommended for small parties.

Its pièce de résistance is a ten-meter-long refectory table made of 400-year-old elm wood from the old “Ponte die Bassano”. The aperitif or the end of the evening is enjoyed in the Chalet Bar.

But also our Swiss-Chalet Restaurant exudes its very own charm in the individual parlors and provide every occasion with the appropriate setting. We would be happy to show you all the rooms and parlors during a leisurely tour. We look forward to getting to know you!

Wilhelm Tell – the most important legendary figure of Switzerland
The folk hero was already known in our latitudes in the late Middle Ages and early modern times, long before Friedrich Schiller helped the character to world fame with his famous stage drama “Wilhelm Tell” (first performance in 1804 in Weimar).

Tell is mentioned for the first time in the so-called “White Book of Sarnen”, a chronicle by the Obwalden country writer Hans Schriber around 1470.

He has thus been an integral part of the Swiss liberation mythology for over 500 years and is mentioned in the same context as Habsburg oppression by the bailiffs, the Rütli oath, the castle break and liberation battles.

As a blameless mountain farmer, he defends himself against the tyrannical bailiff Heinrich Gessler and shoots him from ambush with his crossbow in the Hohlen Gasse near Küssnacht.

He thus becomes a hero and helps trigger the legendary self-liberation of the Confederates around 1300, which reaches its first climax in the Battle of Morgarten (1315).

Tell dies as an old man while rescuing a small child from the raging mountain stream Schächen in the Schächen valley in Uri. To this day he is regarded as the epitome of courage, strength of will and unshakable determination, and for centuries has been a symbol of love of freedom and independence.

Tour of Schwyz
During the walk, eleven panels with pictures and short texts provide you with a variety of information about important squares and alleys, public buildings, patrician houses, monasteries, churches and chapels. You will also learn interesting facts about festivals and customs that have been a tradition in Schwyz for decades.

Bourbaki Lucerne – Panorama Image
Experience the fascinating story of a medium and its fateful history. As a prime example of a humanitarian commitment, the asylum search of the French Bourbaki Army to Switzerland in 1871 went down in history and was captured in a virtual reality from the time before cinema. Interesting tour to another time!

The Bourbaki Panorama Lucerne – a European cultural monument – commemorates the internment of 87,000 French soldiers who find refuge in Switzerland in the winter of 1871. A gripping story told by painter Edouard Castres in 1881 on the 112 × 10 meter (originally 112 x 14 meter) circular painting.

The message of the Bourbaki Panorama has no expiration date and is still relevant after 150 years. Solidarity and exclusion concern our society today more than ever. Today, the medium of the panorama is not only considered the precursor of cinemas, but also the inspiration for 360-degree filmmaking and virtual reality.

During your free time, take a ride on the gondola lift to the sunny terrace of the “First” lookout or a fun ride on the Trottibike (only in summer).
