Translated as ‘The Home,’ The Chedi Al Bait, Sharjah is a unique collection of five heritage houses once owned by local families who made an impact culturally, intellectually and politically on Sharjah’s history with innovative achievements in publishing, government and business.

Under the guidance of GHM, these carefully preserved historic structures along with newer buildings have been united and transformed into 53 elegant guestrooms and suites where Arabic influences meet the brand’s legendary Asian design elements.

Our treasured guests at The Chedi Al Bait will be able to experience a range of elegant co-working spaces tailored to their various needs.

With high-speed internet and complimentary office stationeries provided for your working convenience, conduct intimate client meetings at The Business Centre or choose our VIP Event Room with Butler Service for larger business gatherings in a relaxed environment.

We are happy to provide administrative support including meeting room set-ups as well as scanning and printing services upon request. Our hotel’s different co-working spaces can accommodate group sizes ranging from 8 to 10 people.

CHEDI GRAND SUITE
A veritable Arabian paradise under classic wooden ceilings, each of the two Chedi Grand Suites offers more than 100 square metres thoughtfully divided among a master ensuite bedroom with its commanding four poster bed, the grand dining area and a living room inspired by traditional majlis, meaning ‘place of sitting’ and endowed with Arabian artifacts.

The opulent scale of this suite, perhaps best embodied in the regal bathroom with its expansive bathtub, is balanced by the thoughtful Asian design details for which GHM is known.

Designed especially for long stay guests here for business or pleasure, every aspect of these private palaces will impress while conferring the feeling of genuine Arabian warmth and hospitality.

AL BAIT HERITAGE SUITE
The hotel’s only two Al Bait Heritage Suites are each thoughtfully endowed with authentic heritage details between the wizened walls of the Bait Abdul Rahman Bin Hassan Al Midfa historical house.

Generous personal space here is appointed with ornate Arabian design influences in the distinctive four poster bed and the room’s ultra plush majlis area, meaning ‘place of sitting’, yet finished with the Asian refinements and indulgent comforts for which GHM is known, as well as the intuitive technology that epitomises the most modern luxury.

CHEDI GRAND ROOM
A veritable oasis of subdued shades, the Chedi Grand Room offers a rich wealth of Arab residential details from the heritage inspired ceiling to the eye-catching bed.

These convey the hospitable warmth and cultural heritage of Sharjah itself while blending effortlessly with the Asian minimalist design and indulgent comforts for which GHM is known.

Take refuge among the generous cushions in the room’s majlis area, meaning ‘place of sitting,’ designed to resonate with the surrounding Heart of Sharjah neighbourhood and the nearby Souq Al Arsah traditional bazaar, the oldest in the UAE.

CHEDI DELUXE ROOM
Simple yet sublime, these deluxe sanctuaries under elevated ceilings offer authentic Arabian ambience blended seamlessly with the Asian minimalist design and indulgent comforts for which GHM is known.

Elements like the room’s majlis area, meaning ‘place of sitting’ in Arabic and the antique style furnishings, including the commanding bed, tastefully connect these personal spaces to the surrounding Heart of Sharjah neighbourhood and the nearby Souq Al Arsah traditional bazaar, the oldest in the UAE.

LIVE IN SHARJAH

Sharjah is the third largest of the UAE’s seven emirates, with a population of 1.275 million. Around 80% are expatriates; many work in Dubai yet choose to live in neighbouring Sharjah for its family-friendly lifestyle and cultural attractions, such as its Arabic architecture and Islamic museums.

The only emirate to border the Arabian Gulf Coast and the Gulf of Oman, Sharjah abounds with outdoor activities and beaches where swimwear is acceptable. However it is appropriate to dress modestly in public places.

While Sharjah is a ‘dry’ emirate, meaning the sale or consumption of alcohol is prohibited, Sharjah exudes the fabled hospitality of this ancient region.

DESTINATION
A thoroughly modern metropolis with over 6,000 years of history, Sharjah is located along the southern shores of the Arabian Peninsula. All around us, natural landscape stretches from pristine seawaters to mangrove forests, sweeping sand deserts and craggy, soaring mountains.

One hears greetings of ‘Ahlan wa sahlan’ exploring our timeless, treasure-filled souqs and in the streets where the scent of gahwa, our rich, strong Arabic coffee fills the air. For adventurous palates, try a camel milk cappuccino.

The art capital of the United Arab Emirates, Sharjah is home to a vast timeline of human creativity and craftsmanship, from the meticulously restored ‘Heart of Sharjah’ heritage zone where The Chedi Al Bait, Sharjah is located to the cutting edge, contemporary works in our world-renowned Art Museum.

ART & CULTURE
Compact in size, Sharjah brims with cultural offerings. The Emirate has 17 museums, a prestigious annual International Book Fair and the Sharjah Biennial, held from March to June.

The hotel’s location within the Heart of Sharjah makes this a natural starting point to discover the architecturally acclaimed heritage buildings of the Sharjah Arts Area, where the Sharjah Art Centre for the Art of Arabic Calligraphy and Ornamentation offers a visually engaging introduction to our artful heritage.

Especially popular with families, glimpses of the past are artfully displayed at the Sharjah Heritage Museum. A walk along the Corniche leads to the gold-domed Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation, one of our most celebrated arts institutions.

SHOPPING
Allow us to recommend where to buy traditional Emirati items like pashminas, dhallahs coffee pots, herbs and spices, antique khanjar daggers and traditional jewellery.

Our list of favorite souqs (see list below) and insider addresses will lead you back in time to sights, sounds and scents just as when the Bedouins would bring their camel trains to trade dates for rice, spices and silks from faraway lands.

Then there is the Souq Al Markazi; though the name means Blue Souq, everything here shimmers in precious metals and stones.

Be prepared to bargain in traditional shops and markets, and note that the shopping hours 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm still apply in older shopping areas.

Newer shopping centres and malls often remain open all day, from 10:00 am until 10:00 or 11:00 pm. On Fridays, the majority of malls open only around 2:00 pm after the completion of the Friday mass prayer session for the Muslims.

Most internationally recognised credit cards are accepted throughout Sharjah, however, we recommend carrying some cash for shopping and eating at smaller establishments as well as for taxi fares. ATMs are easily found in the shopping and dining areas of Sharjah.

SIGHTSEEING
Sharjah is a constant contrast, where modern metropolis meets desert mirages. Allow us to arrange your visit to traditional Bedouin camps and linger over a picnic lunch atop the dunes at Al Dhaid.

The UAE is not all about shimmering skyscrapers, shopping malls and super fast cars. Nature lovers should escape to Khor Kalba, an eco-tourism haven of creeks and mangroves.

Decidedly more adult, the most romantic way to observe the ever-shifting sands of time in Sharjah is to board a traditional Abra at sunset, to admire the shimmering city lights of sky-piercing towers and the sparkling night sky above.

On other evenings, head to the dessert to observe the night sky next to Fossil Rock Mountain or discover the stars and planets at the Mleiha Archaeological Centre.

RECREATIONAL PURSUITS
Many who come to Sharjah on business are surprised to learn that one can hike epic mountains, swim from a city beach, dive in the Indian Ocean and kayak through the world’s most northerly mangrove forest, all within our pristine landscape. Spectator sports abound here as well.

Horse racing season in Dubai starts in November and leads up to the world’s richest horserace, the Dubai World Cup, in late March. On our west coast, the Sharjah Formula 1 Powerboat Grand Prix happens every December, while on the east, Khorfakkan hosts the challenging Nations Cup every March.

Think driving a Formula 1 car across a ploughed field. Families especially will enjoy another uniquely Sharjah event, camel racing which take place in the winter months on Thursday and Friday morning (from 7:00 am, admission is free) near Al Dhaid.

TOURS & EXCURSIONS
For many of our leisure guests, The Chedi Al Bait, Sharjah opens the door to discovery of this fascinating yet little known destination. We invite you to join the occasional Art Reception or to book a lunch with our Artist-in-Residence whose work is exhibited at the hotel during your stay.

Beyond our elegant domain, allow our team to help you discover Sharjah’s architectural and cultural heritage, beginning with personalised tours of the Heart of Sharjah.

For guests interested in diving into the much-talked-about Sharjah art scene, a professional art curator will customise and lead private insider tours to the top art, design and antiques addresses.

Others curious about the culinary richness of the UAE may arrange private cooking lessons with our exceptional chefs. Experiment with Middle East recipes and sample fresh local products then savour the taste of these with a private dinner at the Chef’s Table.
