The Headland is a one-of-a-kind. It’s more than a hotel in a wild, dramatic location. It has grand traditions and age old charm, but it also embraces the modern with a stunning Aqua Club and five-bubble-rated spa facilities.

It’s all part of the same thing. Our aim has always been to create an atmosphere of relaxed luxury with excellent, approachable but unobtrusive service. We believe that you should arrive feeling welcomed, whoever you are. And you should leave rejuvenated, wherever you’re going back to. That’s what holidays are for.

This approach has established The Headland as a timeless destination for visitors worldwide, many of whom return every year. They return because it’s grand and it makes you feel special…but also because it’s never snobby and it’s designed to let you just be yourself.

THE HISTORY
The Headland has been recognised as one of Cornwall’s most iconic hotels. It stands commanding on the cliffs overlooking Newquay’s famous Fistral Beach. Architecturally it is bold, original, unapologetic and majestic.

Inside, it oozes opulence and old world charm, with perhaps a touch of decadence here and there. But the luxury facilities, the attentive staff, and the exquisite furnishings should not be mistaken for formality, or exclusivity.

At the heart of everything here is a warm welcome, a sanctuary where you can just be, do as you please (as long as you’re respectful and kind, of course). Bring the sand in between your toes, with your bellyboard, lounge all day on The Terrace overlooking the Atlantic, a pint or a cocktail in hand. No one’s judging.

ROOMS & SUITES
Elegant, pristine, one-of-a-kind. Like the hotel itself, each of our rooms has its own distinct character. They’re individually designed to complement the shape, the aspect and the light on offer.

Many have sweeping Atlantic Ocean views, all have the finest attention to detail that ensure you feel special, pampered and ready to unwind in luxury. The Headland Hotel is recognised around the world for its stunning architecture and setting.

The range of rooms on offer provides different experiences each time you stay, or we can arrange a favourite room to be yours as a valued guest. A stay at The Headland provides generations of family and the most romantic of couples with the perfect backdrop for cherished memories to be created. Dogs are also welcome!

Each of our Best Rooms and Suites is individually decorated and enjoys unparalleled views of the ocean, coastline or beach. Some Best Rooms/Suites benefit from a private balcony or large bay window, others have wonderfully large and comfy seating areas, just right to kick back and relax after a day on the beach.

The majority of beds are four posters/canopy beds, and some can be made into a twin configuration. Our Best Family Suites offer a separate bedroom for children which can accommodate up to two or three little ones, as well as one family bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate bath.

THE CRIBBAR & THE TREVOSE SUITES
Created for Spring 2022, The Cribbar Suite on the 1st floor offers one Best Room with four poster bed connected to one Grounds View double/twin room, and The Trevose Suite on the 2nd floor offers one Best Suite with balcony and sitting room connected to one Coastal View double/twin room.

Both two bedroom suites give each bedroom their own ensuite bathroom, offering greater space and privacy to those wishing to enjoy a spectacular sea view from the large main bedroom, and a connected smaller bedroom still with a glimpse of the deep blue stuff.

OCEAN VIEW ROOMS
With the Ocean view rooms you’re facing straight into the sunset, looking out over the pounding surf to the rolling waves beyond. Interior design is modern and understated, while the bathrooms are more traditional with overhead showers in the baths.

In spring and summer, sit by the window and take in the turquoise waters and balmy sunsets. In winter, the show is all storms and crashing breakers with sea spray hitting your windows while you stay safe and warm in your cosy haven.

For family getaways, there are Ocean View Family rooms with a double/twin bed and pull-down bunk beds (suitable for children up to 12 years – max height 160cm) in the main bedroom.

COSY ROOMS
Get away from it all in our ultimate roomy snugs. New for 2021 the Cosy rooms offer excellent value and are built for de-stressing, unwinding and snoozing. These bedrooms are the perfect place to hunker down and tuck up, away from the earshot of Mother Nature.

What they lack in external views they make up for in comfort, and beautiful bathrooms with stunning walk-in showers. The majority of Cosy rooms have large 6 foot beds, and some can be made into twin rooms on request. For older children and teenagers who want their own space, they are ideal when parents take a room across the corridor.

SELF CATERING CORNISH COTTAGES
Five-star escapes for couples or families, moments from Fistral Beach. The Headland’s coastal cottages offer all the amenities you’d expect from a 5-star hotel, with a cherry on top: your own space. These beach side homes away from home let you enjoy your holiday at your own pace.

This is your Cornish hideaway for a week or two. Have breakfast at 2pm, cook up a storm or order in, it’s up to you. Spread out, venture out, or just lounge by the windows and watch The Atlantic doing its thing…Ah, peace!

HOT TUB AQUA COTTAGES
Nestled beside The AquaClub, these three cottages give you self-catering with extra wellbeing luxury. With ensuite four poster master bedroom, and second twin bedroom also ensuite, there is oodles of space for everyone. Squashy sofa, family dining table, and outdoor decking and enclosed grassy area complete with your own hot tub for four; the perfect spot for relaxation.

SEA VIEW COTTAGES
The Headland is famous for its views. Located on Newquay’s Towan peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic high above the fine sands of Fistral, it offers a grandstand view of the beaches, the cliffs and the rolling breakers.

Front row for this spectacle are our sea view cottages, built close (but not too close) to the cliff edge. Big windows let light flood in, while luxurious fixtures and fittings cater to every comfort you need.

We have a selection of 1, 2, and 3 bedroom cottages for couples to large families. For the ultimate storm watching or sunset gazing experience, our top pick is the Mariners 2 cottage which has a 270-degree panoramic view. It’s very popular so early booking is is strongly advised.

EAT, DRINK & RELAX
Our mantra at The Headland is ‘Five-star Cornwall, not formal’. Nowhere is this more obvious than when you wine and dine at our restaurants. Each has its own character, but in all we invite you to come as you are, feel at home, eat well and make memories to cherish.

THE TERRACE BISTRO & BAR
The Terrace stretches around the south and west sides of The Headland with commanding views over the sand and surf. By day it’s vibrant and casual. Come in off the beach with the kids, spread out in our big chairs and treat yourself to local seafood specials, filling subs or an indulgent Cornish cream tea.

When the weather’s good, eat out under wide blue skies. If it turns, there’s plenty of space inside, and the views are still there through our huge glass windows. By night, residents and visitors gather to watch the spectacular sunsets over the Atlantic.

The bar serves up good local beers, fine wines, single malts and a refreshingly long choice of cocktails. Can’t see what you want? Ask our mixologist to rustle it up for you.

THE SAMPHIRE RESTAURANT
An ever-changing seasonal menu allows beautiful local ingredients to shine. Elegant dishes hero quality. The setting is grand, and the service is exemplary, but there’s no fuss here.

Take your time, take in the views over the pounding Fistral surf and out to the Atlantic horizon. In summer, this fine old dining hall is flooded with sunlight. In winter, you feel protected and indulged as you watch the elements rage outside.

The Samphire celebrates the best of Cornwall: seafood fresh from local dayboats; meat, poultry and game from nearby farms and estates. There are always veggie and vegan options, puddings are to die for, and all dietary requirements are met as a matter of course. Just let your waiter know.

THE DECK RESTAURANT
The Deck is at the heart of The Headland’s Aqua Club development, a minute’s walk from the hotel or cottages. The emphasis here is all about reviving your spirits. Be as healthy as you want, work up an appetite, then allow yourself a little leeway. You’ve earned it.

Dine poolside on the suntrap terrace with views over the ocean or settle inside in the stunning circular lounge. The food is Cornwall meets the Med. Think spicy flatbreads, locally sourced cured meat antipasti, crispy seasonal salads, and tasty nibbles. While you’re here, check out the cocktails by Mixtons, local producers pushing the boundaries of what you can do with a drink.

THE SPA LOUNGE
Unwind and refuel in our tranquil Spa Lounge with its iconic oceanfront setting. All dishes are freshly prepared by our chefs. As you’d expect, there are plenty of healthy options and light bites, but it’s not the law.

If you want afternoon tea loaded with clotted cream, be our guest. No-one’s judging. Menus change with the seasons, reflecting the best local produce from our small group of trusted suppliers. Choose the popular set menu, or dive into the a la carte.

After sessions in the steam rooms and sauna, you might want to rehydrate with freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. Then again, after a dip in the hydro pool, you might have bubbles on the mind. Champagnes, Cornish sparkling, and Venetian Prosecco top the list.

THE AFTERNOON TEA
It can be such a long time between lunch and supper. In summer, when the sun’s starting to dip, but the evening hasn’t kicked in, or in winter when you return tired from your coastal stomp but that dinner seems such a distant prospect. Enter afternoon tea, invented for those foodless hours, designed to sweeten the soul. And at The Headland it’s an occasion to savour and linger over.

A grand tradition in Cornwall’s grandest hotel with iconic Atlantic views: it’s charming, elegant, frivolous, and just plain fun. Don’t forget to add a little extra indulgence with a glass of Champagne too! Served between 2pm – 4pm. Booking is essential

It’s a cosy haven in winter, a reviving oasis of luxury in summer. We’ve picked out a few highlights to inspire you. Have a browse through the seasons.

SPRING TO SUMMER
Cornwall in the spring is fresh and revitalising. The storms take a break (usually), the sun sits higher in the sky, and the sea calms itself if its playing nicely. A great time for coast walking and exploring before high season hits.

In summer the beaches fill with families and surfers, there are day trips out of Newquay harbour, sightseeing and fishing, and long balmy evenings sipping cocktails on The Headland’s famous Terrace overlooking Fistral.

AUTUMN TO WINTER
Broody, magical, mystical. Mother Nature shows her strength. The seas lash the cliffs, the winds batter the coastline, but it’s safe and sound at The Headland. Storm chasers gather here at this time of year for the spectacular views from our rooms and restaurants. And when the elements take a rest, you can venture out in to a spectacular landscape of low sun, long shadows and crisp salty air.

FISTRAL BEACH
Right on our doorstep, you really can’t miss it, is Newquay’s, and possibly Cornwall’s, most iconic beach – Fistral. It is quite simply one of the most consistent and best surfing beaches in the UK and Europe.

With jewel-blue sea and a sweeping stretch of golden sand, Fistral is stunning and exciting, challenging for surfers, but also the perfect family beach, offering the classic seaside pleasures of sand and surf and ice creams in the sun.

SCUBA DIVING & SNORKELLING IN NEWQUAY
We’re surrounded by water here at The Headland. And the best way to explore it is to get under it. So if you fancy taking the plunge, let us know. We work closely with Dive Newquay, a superb local outfit, who know the waters well and have great experience teaching beginners or arranging great dives for the more experienced.

PADDLEBOARDING
With a coastline or around 300 miles and beaches facing every point of the compass, Cornwall offers lots of options for touring during the summer. The Surf Sanctuary is right on our doorstep and runs Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) Atlantic expeditions and micro tours of the Gazzle and River Gannel. Or you can go your own way and rent a board from them.

COASTEERING
Jump, climb, swim, and just go with the flow of the tides. Coasteering is an instant rush. You bring the thirst for adventure and we’ll kit you out and help you traverse the showstopping North Cornwall shorelines around Newquay. If you yearn to get your adrenaline pumping and explore the coast from a totally different perspective, you must try this.

WHAT IS THE CRIBBAR
Named after the reef it rolls over, The Cribbar is Newquay’s own big wave. It only makes an appearance a few times each year, because the weather and swell conditions need to be just right. When they are, they create the famous wall of water, rising up to 30ft high just off the ocean-facing side of The Headland.

STORM WATCHING
One of the best parts of visiting Cornwall in the autumn and winter is getting all cosy indoors and watching the wild weather outside, knowing it can’t touch you. Storm watching is one of our most popular attractions for our guests during the ‘low’ season.

Due it’s commanding site high up on the cliffs overlooking the sea and beach, The Headland Hotel and its clifftop cottages, have become a top destination for dedicated storm chasers.

Storm watching at The Headland is an extraordinary experience. You’re in the midst of it all, yet surrounded by five-star luxury. Alongside the comforts of your individually designed bedroom, there’s award-winning dining in three restaurants, five-star pampering in The Headland Spa and complimentary use of our brand new £10 million Aqua Club with six pools.

So hunker down and watch the powerful storms barrel in against the sands and rugged rocks of Fistral Beach. You can stay toasty beside the crackling log fire, or relax into big sofas in the Ballroom while you marvel at the Atlantic squall raging only a few feet from you outside.

For an even more thrilling experience, wrap up warm, get your waterproofs on and anchor yourself down on the coastal path surrounding The Headland. But be aware, the wind can get very, very strong, and the paths get muddy and slippy, so stay safe, don’t take risks and don’t get too close to the edge for that better view.

When the weather’s done with you, or you’re done with it, then there’s nothing better than knowing you’ll be back in the warm embrace of The Headland. Relax in your big foamy bath, sink into your Hypnos bed, defrost by our open log fires with a stiff drink, or a mug of cocoa, whichever takes your fancy.
