The scenic route to five-star bliss. Coworth Park offers idyllic relaxation in many guises, from a rural detox to an indulgent, romantic escape. Here you’ll find an experience to refresh every sense within our welcoming oasis of calm.

With 240 acres of picturesque parkland, an equestrian centre, polo fields, kids’ club and plenty of outdoor pursuits, Coworth Park has more than enough to keep even the most active guest entertained. Nearby you can also discover breathtaking vistas, cultural gems and heritage sites in the local Berkshire towns and countryside.

THE HISTORY
If you’ve ever wondered who our grand mansion house was built for, or who created our polo fields, you’ve come to the right place. Our royal connections go way back. In 1066, Edward the Confessor, the last Saxon king of England, gave the land on which the hotel now stands to Westminster Abbey. The land was later repossessed by William the Conqueror for the crown.

Coworth House was built in 1776 for William Shepheard, a prosperous East India merchant. The house took its name from the surrounding hamlet of Coworth. In the 1800s, between 1810 and 1893, the house was owned by three successive generations of the aristocratic Arbuthnot family.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, the future Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, stayed at Coworth Park in 1879 and 1883 when they attended the races at nearby Ascot. William Farmer, who served as Sheriff of London and High Sheriff of Berkshire, purchased the estate in 1883 and our two Farmers Cottages are named in his honour.

In 1899 Lord Stanley, who became the 17th Earl of Derby, bought the house and lived here for 50 years. He was one of the most influential men of the time and a keen horseman who won the Derby several times – the famous race is named after his ancestors. He was also the first person to introduce rhododendrons to the UK.

In the 1980s Galen Weston, owner of Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason, bought the estate. It was his idea to create a polo field and village area with stables to house the polo ponies and their groomsmen. Following a complete restoration, Coworth Park opened as a Dorchester Collection hotel in September 2010.

THE DOWER HOUSE
A unique and listed house of your very own, set amongst idyllic private gardens. The Dower House is a favourite with everyone who visits and her memory will linger long after you leave.

The Dower House is a private cottage built in 1775. Grade II listed, it has been immaculately restored by Fox Linton Associates who have honoured the legacy of the property’s Georgian history and origins. A stylish and enchanting English country escape.

The bespoke, copper roll-top bathtubs take luxury to new heights. Your bathrooms are wonderfully spacious, filled with natural light and fragranced by the subtle aroma of Mitchell and Peach toiletries.

As well as the glorious countryside that surrounds you, The Dower House has its own secluded garden complete with a river running through it, where you’ll often spot our family of swans. Be it a butler, a chef, or someone to prepare the fire, we’re ready to tailor everything to your heart’s desire.

NORTH LODGE
Our grounds are full of hidden treasures, and we’re delighted to unveil the latest gem in our collection. North Lodge is a private gatehouse cottage located on the outskirts of our grounds, now beautifully restored to offer three bedrooms, a state-of-the-art kitchen and an idyllic country garden.

As you stroll from room to room you’ll enjoy a wonderful sense of comfort and ease. This is a warm and inviting space for doing as much – or as little – as you please. Cook a family dinner in the kitchen, watch films in the snug or step out to explore the grounds on your doorstep.

A glorious state-of-the-art kitchen is all yours for preparing lazy weekend brunches or family dinners, or perhaps enlisting the help of our private chef for special occasions and masterclasses.

After a day spent splashing through puddles and meeting the horses, it’s time to kick off your muddy boots, throw a log on the fire and slip beneath the bubbles of our signature roll-top copper bath. To elevate the experience, our spa therapist can perform treatments in the comfort of your suite.

A unique sense of space extends to the outdoors, where you’ll find your own private garden. This is a space for all seasons, for lighting up the barbecue in summer or warming up beside a firepit with marshmallows on winter nights.

He loves that diners discover the beauty they witness on arrival recalled on their plate.

Our summer meadow is the first view to greet you on your drive up to the mansion house and is a memorable sight to behold. It’s filled with a vibrant array of traditional English country flowers. Cornflowers, poppies and red campions create a colourful display. Wander through and enjoy at your leisure.

GARDEN DELIGHTS
We have so many delightful areas to explore that even our own head of gardens, Terri Crow, can’t decide on her favourite place. Some days it’s the scenic rose garden and gazebo, other days it’s the shady lime grove or the estate’s original sunken garden. Local artist Carol Peace’s beautiful bronze statues are also well worth looking out for.
