Nanteos Mansion sits directly on the site of a much earlier manor house, Neuadd Llawdden, which can still be found with front door and windows still intact, in the cellars below the house. The flooring dates back to the 11th century with flagstones worn from the steps of previous inhabitants.
In its heyday the Nanteos estate totalled some 33,000 acres throughout Cardiganshire or, as we know it today, Ceredigion.
The building of Nanteos began in 1739 under the direction of Thomas Powell, MP for Cardiganshire, funded by the considerable wealth of his wife Mary Frederick, granddaughter of Sir John Frederick, Lord Mayor of London.
Thomas however, died before the work was completed and the estate was left to his brother, the Reverend William Powell to complete the work in 1752.
Nanteos remained a family home for the next 180 years until the last surviving Powell, Edward Powell, died in 1930. Margaret, his wife, remained in residence until her death in 1951.
The next 60 years saw a succession of owners, but a lack of sufficient investment and vision saw a decline in the fortunes of the estate and the mansion fell into disrepair.
The present owners, or custodians as they prefer to be known as, set about a multimillion pound refurbishment of this Grade 1 listed Mansion, together with its Grade 2 Listed stables and walled garden.
The 30 acres of grounds, continue to be sympathetically restored following the opening in Spring 2012 of Nanteos Mansion Country House Hotel.
Nanteos is the perfect base to explore the county of Ceredigion and beyond, we have over 30 acres of woodland on the estate along with our walled garden, lake and labyrinth providing a great space to explore and work up an appetite.

ROOMS
A home from home with luxury en suite accommodation from our sumptuous Nightingale suite to our deluxe doubles. We have three ground floor rooms with one specially adapted for our disabled guests.
All of our rooms are equipped with smart TV’s, direct dial telephones, tea & coffee making facilities, luxury toiletries, Egyptian linen and free fast WiFi.
Many rooms can be twinned and can accommodate extra guests. Children are especially welcome with extra beds and cots provided for. We also welcome dogs and have four rooms specifically designated as dog friendly.
KING SUITE
Nightingale is a sumptuous, elegant suite, featuring a glamorous vintage design with fabulous mirrored deco-style furniture, sensuous, warm neutral colours with hand-stenciled walls in white and champagne.
A stunning glass chandelier and tasteful, ornate mirrors ooze romance. A special blue silk-lined wardrobe offers brides-to-be a special, secret place to hide away her wedding dress until the big day.
The Nightingale features a grand king-size bed, dressed with pure Egyptian cotton linen with a sensuous satin feel. The seating area contains a double sofa and there is room for a child’s cot.
The large contemporary en-suite bathroom contains an extra large, extra deep bath amid relaxing hues of soft blues and greens. The Rain shower will wash any stresses far away.
SUITE
We have six bespoke suites at Nanteos, furnished and decorated to the highest standards reflecting the period of the Mansion, but with some contemporary twists and modern conveniences. Rooms are named after people, places and events associated with the Mansion’s prominent and illustrious past.
All of our suites are timeless and elegant. Some feature wood panelling whilst others have hand-painted wallpaper, making each bespoke to their name. All have sumptuous king-size beds and en-suite bathrooms.
Some have cast iron roll-top baths whilst others have bespoke heated wooden benches for relaxed lingering. All have lounging chairs and coffee tables so you can relax and enjoy the views and sounds of the countryside.
FAMILY ROOMS
We have four bespoke family rooms at Nanteos, furnished and decorated to the highest standards reflecting the period of the Mansion, but with some contemporary twists and modern conveniences. Rooms are named after people, places and events associated with the Mansion’s prominent and illustrious past.
ELAN
This room with disability access is conveniently located on the ground floor with its own private parking space. This room has been designed with ease of access in mind and is fully equipped with a wet room style bathroom. Elan can be configured as a double or twin room as required.
MEWS HOUSE SELF CATERING
Formally a Palladian Carriage house, the Mews House has been lovingly restored and is situated across a small courtyard from the main hotel. It is fully equipped for self-catering purposes, and offers plenty of space for families and large groups.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessary mod cons for you to entertain at your leisure. An added dining table here can sit up to 10, and has its very own luxury fireplace to keep you cosy on cooler nights.
The living area comprises of a spacious sitting area with flat screen TV, WiFi and dining table. It opens out onto a beautiful private courtyard, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside.
With 4 luxury double bedrooms featuring 3 king beds and one queen bed, 1 en suite bathroom, and 2 separate bathrooms there’s room for all to relax. With its very own courtyard, boot room, private entrance and parking you can choose the most private of stays in a perfect setting.
BREAKFAST
The original wood panelled Dining Room is home to our Restaurant. Breakfast is served daily from 7.30am to 10.00am and pre-ordered the evening prior. Room service is also available.
NANTEOS ESTATE DINNER
Only served on a Friday & Saturday night. The Nanteos Estate Dinner is a chef’s choice set (other than pre-advised dietary restrictions) four course menu. Starting with guests gathering for drinks at 7.00pm with everyone sitting at 7.30pm at individual tables.
AFTERNOON TEA
The Nanteos Estate Afternoon Tea is served every Wednesday & Sunday, subject to availabilty, in either the Morning Room, Library Bar, Rear Foyer Snug or Restaurant. Afternoon Tea at Nanteos is a relaxed and decadent affair, served between 12.00pm and 4.00pm
PRIVATE DINING
The original wood panelled Dining Room is home to our Restaurant, using the best of local Welsh produce, combined with professional yet friendly service we can offer private dining for parties of over 12 by pre-arrangement.
LIBRARY BAR
Open between 3pm and 9pm daily the former library now serves as the Bar for the house serving a wide range of drinks.
