Whether you’re searching for a Maine resort for your family vacation or one of the best wedding venues in Maine, you’ll find it all at The Nonantum Resort. Overlooking the Kennebunk River and within walking distance of Dock Square’s shops and restaurants, the Nonantum is one of the most convenient and accessible family resorts in Maine.

Multiple picturesque beaches surround our property, giving you the choice of your Maine Coastal experience. And with three boat tours departing from our marina, on-site watersport equipment, and a full activities program for kids of all ages, there’s no shortage of adventure right outside your door.

Choose from our historic Carriage House Inn or our more modern Portside Lodge. Two on-site restaurants, Heckmans and Latitudes Outdoor Bar and Grill keep you fed from sun up to sun down. From single rooms to multi-room family suites, we offer a range of lodging options like no other hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine.

Our historic family resort in Kennebunkport is perched along a bend in the Kennebunk River where lobster boats are moored between trips out to sea and recreational water craft glide by throughout the day. Kick back in one of our Adirondack chairs to take in the gorgeous water views or stroll along our expansive property that includes a private dock and beach.

We have plenty of on-site activities for every member of your family and our swimming pool is the perfect place to relax together and make new friends. When you’re ready to explore the nearby Kennebunkport attractions, we are a short walk to Dock Square. We also offer a free shuttle to nearby points of interest, which runs seasonally from June-Labor Day.

THE HISTORY
Nonantum (no/nan/tum). The name itself comes from a Native American word meaning ‘blessing’ or ‘prayer’, but has become synonymous with ‘family’. Originally opened on July 4th, 1884, The Nonantum’s 28 original rooms and 10 original staff have grown, and with the hotel’s growth, the Nonantum’s vision has also grown.

The family- owned and run Nonantum is proud to be a dedicated member of the community, supporting multiple causes and initiatives in the Southern Maine area, with staff members sitting on multiple local and state boards, and participating in events state-wide to support causes close to heart of The Nonantum.

The heart that beats at the center of The Nonantum begins with the Ginn Family, the devoted owners since 1994, and continues outward through their staff, to their guests.

The passion for family, coupled with the unshakable values of the Nonantum, and Maine itself, pushes The Nonantum to be constantly evolving and improving to give our guests, property, and staff the experience and treatment that each deserves.

CARRIAGE HOUSE
Kennebunkport, Maine is rich in history and our Carriage House is no exception. In 1883, the former home of Sea Captain Henry Heckman became the Nonantum Hotel. The word “nonantum” is the Algonquin Indian word for “blessing”.

The main lobby of our family resort is part of the original structure that has been reconstructed, added onto and updated over the past 135+ years. Despite the many changes made to keep pace with evolving guest expectations and the latest design trends, our main building still retains its 19th century charm and elegance.

PORTSIDE LODGE
While Maine has been “Vacationland” for decades, the popularity of Kennebunkport exploded during George H.W. Bush’s terms as Vice President and President of the United States (the Bush family’s summer home is less than two miles from our front door). In response to the dramatically increased demand for rooms and to offer better views of the water, we built the Portside Lodge in 1987.

Couples and families alike enjoy the private balconies and patios on the first and second floors of Portside Lodge as well as the large picture windows in our third floor rooms that overlook the Kennebunk River.

DINING
At the Nonantum Resort we believe food should be a cherished part of every gathering, especially when you’re on vacation or celebrating a big occasion. Our award-winning chefs work tirelessly to ensure everyone in your party will find something tasty to enjoy – morning, noon and night!

Heckmans Kennebunkport is the newest spot to enjoy culinary creativity in a relaxed, fun environment. Offering creative small plates to share and pair, plus local libations to amplify your meal. Plan your next stop in for a new, inventive evening in Kennebunkport.

Our dynamic outside space is where many of our guests prefer to spend their days. Whether you’re poolside, at the bar, or on the river-front lawn, you can enjoy delicious food and drinks that are just right for a day in the sun.

Or grab a seat at the new upper deck where you’ll have unparalleled views of the Kennebunk River. There’s truly no better place to enjoy a fresh lobster roll and a delicious cocktail in Kennebunkport.

Served daily, our delicious breakfast is where unforgettable days in Kennebunkport begin. With an ample array of fresh fruit, cereals, pastries and baked goods all created in house by our pastry chef alongside all your hot breakfast favorites! Gluten-free and vegan options available – there is truly something for everyone.

SUSTAINABILITY
Here at The Nonantum Resort we pride ourselves on prioritizing sustainable practices and reducing our carbon footprint in as many ways as we can. The natural beauty of Maine is one of the primary reasons so many love to visit.

We firmly believe that it is the responsibility of Mainers and visitors alike to take care of, and preserve, our environment. This page exemplifies just some of the ways The Nonantum Resort is facilitating the future of Maine by treating our state and earth with kindness.

EXPLORE KENNEBUNKPORT
While visiting the coast of Maine there are so many fun things to do in Kennebunkport. Exquisite waterfront restaurants, art museums, architecture, antiques, shopping, boating, beaches, golf, and numerous other outside and indoor activities make Kennebunkport the perfect summer destination.

Both Kennebunkport and neighboring Kennebunk have historic districts and offer tours of the homes of sea captains and shipbuilders. Shoppers in search of unique gifts and treasures will find them in the shops, boutiques and galleries of Dock Square, Lower Village, and downtown Kennebunk.

Visitors can see the area on bike, foot, by car or by trolley right from our door. Or explore the seacoast from the water aboard a lobster boat, on a whale watch, a charter boat, a kayak or a canoe.

You will not want to miss a walk along Parson’s Way with sweeping ocean views and President George H.W. Bush’s summer home at Walker’s Point, just a mile down the road from the resort.

Cape Porpoise is near by. It’s a classic Maine fishing village with a stunning view of Goat Island Lighthouse. Not far from the village is the perfectly picturesque Goose Rocks Beach, truly one of the country’s most extraordinary beaches.

FAMILY RESORT IN MAINE
Times change, but the traditional family vacation is alive and well at The Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine. Our ability to evolve with our guests’ preferences is a big reason why Yankee Magazine named us one of the best family resorts in New England.

With a wide range of activities for every member of your family, we’re here to help you find the perfect balance of family time, play time and quiet time. When you want to spend time as a family, our property is filled with places to explore during the day plus sing-alongs and s’mores at our nightly campfire.

We also have all kinds of free lawn games to play and a fleet of kayaks, stand up paddle boards and beach cruiser bikes that you can rent by the hour.

BIKE RENTALS
Looking to see all the scenic areas of Kennebunk/Kennebunkport but not looking to walk your way around? We have the perfect solution for you. Make a brief stop at the front desk and ask to rent one of our comfortable speed cruiser bicycles. With each rental comes a bike helmet and cable lock for your convenience.

KAYAKS & PADDLE BOARDING
Throughout the season we offer rentals and guidance allowing you to experience Kennebunkport from the water. We have two and four hour rentals available. Kayaks are a fun way to catch the sunset or see the Kennebunk River and Kennebunkport Harbor from a new point of view.

LOBSTER BOAT TOURS
The Rugosa, named for the beautiful seaspray rose that lines our coast, is a fully restored, 1963 oak planked lobster-style boat that offers a 1 to 1 1/2 hour tour of the Kennebunk River and the beautiful Kennebunk coastline. During the trip your captain and sternman (or woman) will educate you on the regulations, techniques, lore and art of catching/trapping lobster.

The Rugosa offers a hands on approach to lobstering. After a short trip up the coastline to see the beautiful homes of Ocean Avenue, and the highly photographed Bush family compound at Walker’s Point, the Rugosa turns out to sea to haul a few traps.

In addition to our daily scheduled lobster/coastal tours, the Rugosa is available for private charter. With hardwood, cushioned seating, a covered canopy, and plenty of room to mingle, the Rugosa makes for the perfect open boat for an evening cocktail cruise or sunset tour.

The Rugosa can accommodate parties up to 24 guests, and we look forward to hosting your corporate party, family reunion, engagement party, tour group, class reunion, wedding shower, graduation party, or friendly escape. If you want to see the coast of Maine and learn about the area and lobstering, the Rugosa is the boat for you.

FISHING CHARTERS
Captain Bruce Hebert looks forward to having you on board the Libreti Rose II for a fishing experience you will never forget. With over 40 years on the ocean, Capt. Bruce’s knowledge of the local waters ensures it’s going to be an enjoyable and safe trip.

SAILING TOURS
The Pineapple Ketch offers a 90 minute sail along the Southern Maine Coast. Departing daily from the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, the tour can be as hands on or as laid back as you would like; haul lines, raise sail, take a turn at the helm or just sit back and take in the beautiful views and fresh ocean air.

Whether it’s a morning sail, an afternoon adventure, or a sunset excursion, the Pineapple Ketch has just the trip for you. A sail aboard the Pineapple is not your regular coastal tour with scripted dialogue that is repeated hundreds of times a summer.

The crew is made up of local marine enthusiasts who are all more than eager to talk with you about anything from sailing, lobstering, and fishing, to boating history and pirate lore, navigation, the winds, Maine (New England for that matter) or just our favorite recommendations on where to eat and what not to miss while in the Kennebunks.
