Montana Fine Dining
Drawing from the agricultural wealth of Montana and the West, the executive chef at Paws Up creates refined rustic ranch cuisine that articulately blends the most sophisticated culinary techniques with the freshest meats, produce and ingredients available.

Huckleberries picked from the slopes of surrounding mountains might complement a breakfast of French toast and hand-made sausage. Fresh Rocky Mountain trout, sauteed with herbs, may be paired with an exquisite Napa Valley Chardonnay.

Enjoy the atmosphere at either of our two on-property Montana restaurants. Or, soak up the rustic luxury of Paws Up at a lavish barbeque where guests may indulge in a flight of vintage Pinot Noirs as dinner sizzles nearby. Every sense is excited. Every meal brings new adventure.

Shed®@ Paws Up
Shed® started as a food truck on the edge of the forest here at Paws Up—a wood-fired pizza joint, gastro eatery and roadside smoke trailer all in one.

This pop-up for live-fire cuisine became such a popular gathering place near the Wilderness Outpost that we decided to make it a permanent fixture. And what a fixture it is, designed by cutting-edge architect Kristen Becker of Seattle’s Mutuus Studio.

Every aspect of the unique space invites guests to gather, relax and share tales of their latest Paws Up adventure—from the stunning rustic architecture and its soaring whalebone-like structures to a 250-gallon smoker and a flame that mesmerizes from a six-foot stone hearth.

Shed attracted the talents of master griller Chef Sheldon Mason. He spent decades honing his craft and learning from legendary barbecuers like Chef Evan LeRoy. Now, Mason serves as the chief pitmaster of Shed.

Shed Executive Chef David Smith, a farm-to-table expert from some of Ohio’s finest restaurants, leads the Shed team alongside Mason. But of course, the star of the show is the exceptional cuisine.

You’ll find quesadillas, chili, garlic bread and more. On the grill, the chefs prepare sandwiches, elote (grilled corn) and seasonal veggies. In the smoker, cauliflower burnt ends, wings and sausages with cornbread await foodies. A variety of fresh salads and sides are also available as is a plethora of yummy deserts.

Pomp Restaurant: Montana Luxury Fine Dining
The cuisine at Pomp might be described as refined rustic ranch. Grounded in the fundamentals of classic cooking, our executive chef uses his background in luxury fine dining restaurants and his imagination to create culinary innovations. Local ingredients are featured, so offerings change just like the seasons.

Born to the legendary Native American woman Sacagawea, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau was the youngest member of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

At less than two months old, he set off with his mother and 32 other members of the Corps of Discovery on what would ultimately be a 16-month, five thousand-mile journey to the mouth of the Columbia River and back to North Dakota.

Trough Restaurant: Casual Fine Dining
Trough offers casual fine dining with a Western flair. Home-cooked flavors mingle with traditional offerings for a rustic, yet refined palette.

You may find hand-cut meats combined with locally sourced vegetables, among many options, such as rice and grain bowls and paninis. Satisfaction is guaranteed. Breakfast and lunch are served daily. However, we must tell you that huckleberry pancakes are only served at breakfast—so make sure NOT to miss breakfast.

You can grab a more substantial meal, or if lighter fair is more your style, we have much available. Everything from healthy to home-cooked to make sure all our guests are satisfied. Trough also features a full espresso bar and smoothie options.

Tank: A Luxury Cocktail Bar
Tank is a full-service luxury cocktail bar offering the finest drink selections and a casual environment complete with flat-screen TVs, music, breathtaking views and a spectacular fireplace. It’s the perfect place to unwind and reconnect after a day full of adventure.

Camp Cuisine at Paws Up
The dining experience at Paws Up is like nothing you’ll experience anywhere else in the world. Breakfast and dinner are served each day at your camp. (Lunch is served at a variety of stunning locations on the Ranch.)

Each luxury camp has its own extraordinary, talented chef who caringly prepares camp cuisine in full view of guests in a large Dining Pavilion. Guests can choose to sit with their own groups or amongst the other campers. The Dining Pavilion typically becomes the communal heart of each luxury camp.

Chuck Wagon Dude Ranch Experience

Step aboard a horse-drawn wagon for an authentic dude ranch experience and enjoy a unique ride to the Blackfoot River. Sit back, relax and take in the joy of watching Montana’s famous Big Sky play host to the rolling hills, gorgeous backdrop and local wildlife that call Paws Up Ranch home.

This scenic ride ends at the banks of the Blackfoot River, where you’ll enjoy an authentic chuck wagon dinner.

The finest offerings are prepared before your eyes. From all-natural chicken, Angus prime rib, fresh corn and asparagus grilled over a campfire to simple, scrumptious classics like baked beans and fresh-fruit cobbler warmed in a Dutch oven, you won’t walk away with an empty stomach.

Before and after dinner, enhance your authentic Montana experience by pitching horseshoes and enjoying the extraordinary talents of a local banjo player and a cowboy poet.

S’moreologist™
When you’re as serious as we are about making the world’s best gourmet s’mores, it makes sense to create an official culinary s’mores program that features trained S’moreologists right here at The Resort at Paws Up®. And that’s exactly what we’ve done.

That’s right—the butlers and culinary staff here at Paws Up have now become Certified S’moreologists. Their culinary training makes them ready to create decadent and delicious s’mores—and show you how it’s done—whether at the inviting fireplace in Tank or around an outdoor fire under the stars.

The Paws Up Wine Cellar

Western Montana may not be a wine region, but it’s quickly become a wine destination. At the center of it all is The Resort at Paws Up’s fine-dining restaurant, Pomp.

Named by Wine Spectator magazine as one of the country’s Top 100 Wine Restaurants, Pomp has recently played host to special Wine Weekends featuring influential winemakers such as Chappellet, Merry Edwards and Opus One.

Our luxury wine cellar, capable of storing more than 400 labels, has become well-stocked by such events and also offers an expansive selection of fine vintages from other elite vintners, as well.

The wine list is constantly evolving, and we pride ourselves on being able to offer something for everyone—from the casual drinker to the most-educated connoisseur.

We’re pleased to offer pairing suggestions to complement our menu, whether you’re dining on Bison Tenderloin or Montana Thick-Cut Onion Rings. Of course, we’ve found that the wines we serve are at their very best when complemented by the variety of inspirational settings that only Montana can offer.

And although the landscape produces not a single grape to call our own, it’s our wine reputation that continues to grow.

Montana Spa

Discretely nestled on the edge of an expansive meadow, in the waving shade of soaring pines, sits Spa Town® at Paws Up. Spa Town is a colony of pristine white tents stitched together by a wooden boardwalk, situated just past an authentic babbling brook and nestled among towering pines.

The welcome tents feature full baths and showers, while individual treatment tents are fashioned with a lovely sink, a heated massage table and a view of the meadows, spotted with horses.

A traditional “spa” soundtrack isn’t required because the brook, chirping birds and a rustle of the wind in the trees above are played daily by Mother Nature herself. Paws Up is the finest of all Montana spa resorts with a full spa menu. We give new meaning to “getting lost” in the woods.

Luxury Winter Spa
Few things can compete with Spa Town®, where bird songs and whispering pines lull you into a state of complete tranquility. But winter’s chill shouldn’t dampen your spirit. Our relaxing spa services simply migrate indoors to a new luxury winter spa location inside the authentic and expansive Morris Ranch House.

The Winter Spa at the Morris Ranch House offers an elegant Western atmosphere, setting the stage for extensive pampering and deep relaxation.

This seasonal home is a welcoming retreat, where you can warm up with a Blackfoot River Rocks hot stone massage or surrender to a rejuvenating pumpkin enzyme treatment. Our full menu of luxe spa treatments is guaranteed to banish those winter blues.

Montana Fitness Center

The Huff-and-Puff Fitness Center offers a unique and tranquil environment for your workout—only in much lovelier surroundings than your usual daily exercise location.

Take a break from The Resort’s hiking, horseback riding and ATV offerings, and engage in your familiar routine at this Montana fitness center with the following equipment and amenities: core balance discs, elliptical machines, free weights, medicine balls, treadmills, weight benches, yoga balls, yoga mats and complimentary water and towels.

Montana Family Vacation Resort

It’s amazing how 37,000 acres of wilderness will actually bring your family closer together. The family-owned Resort at Paws Up is a Montana family vacation resort where you and your kids will get reacquainted, reconnected and revitalized.

Accommodating families of all sizes, including large, multigenerational groups, Paws Up offers everything from Montana horseback riding, Montana fly-fishing, river rafting and rappelling to paintball, the Kids Corps of Discovery and chuck wagon dinners.

Montana Romance Vacations

There’s no better way for two people to celebrate their love than with a Montana romantic vacation at The Resort at Paws Up.

Imagine a romantic anniversary dinner on the deck of Pomp, our award-winning restaurant, where instead of traffic lights you’ll see only the billion or so stars in the Big Sky above. Imagine a surprise vacation to one of the best-kept secrets in the West.

Or, imagine a birthday party where instead of stale cake and candles, you’ll go horseback riding and fly-fishing and experience an authentic chuck wagon dinner. When it comes to a romantic vacation in Montana, there’s no better place than The Last Best Place.

Activities and Wilderness Adventures

No other resort or ranch in Montana offers more wilderness adventures and outdoor activities than Paws Up. Adventure enthusiasts rejoice!

Our 37,000 acres of resort property, 100 miles of trails, 10 miles of the Blackfoot River and 1.5 million acres of the nearby Bob Marshall Wilderness Area combine to make for the ultimate outdoor playground for adults and kids alike.

Saddle up for a definitive Montana horseback riding adventure, take your best shot at a world-class sporting clays course or experience Montana fly-fishing with an expert guide. Or kick up some dust on an ATV tour.

And, if that doesn’t satisfy your adventure appetite, there’s also boating, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, paintball, rafting, rappelling, swimming and more. When it comes to outdoor dude ranch activities in the Montana wilderness, Paws Up is an all-you-can-eat buffet.

The Resort at Paws Up features a pristine Rocky Mountain environment most kids will only see on TV. Supervised, age-appropriate activities include everything from hiking and horseback riding to fishing and mountain biking, as well as nature education, wildlife appreciation and wrangler activities.

Arena Equestrian Lessons for Kids

For children who are hoping for some extra one-on-one time with a four-legged friend, an equestrian lesson in our 29,000-square-foot indoor arena at the Saddle Club is a perfect fit—and a step beyond what a typical family dude ranch offers.

Kids ages 6–11 will be given an opportunity to hone their horsemanship skills and balance while creating an everlasting bond with a horse. A word of warning, parents: this experience may cause you to be asked for a pony on your child’s next birthday!

ATV Tours

You’ll scale mountains like they’re molehills, slice through streams, power through brush and even cruise through a ghost town. The backdrop is gorgeous, the pace is moderate and the exhilaration is unforgettable.

Paws Up offers a variety of Montana ATV adventures for you to choose from. Warning: ATV riding can be habit-forming. If you try one adventure, you’ll undoubtedly sign up for more.

Winter Biathlon

The Paws Up Backcountry Biathlon combines the precision of target shooting with the thrill of cross-country skiing.

Because this is Paws Up, this Olympic experience begins in style, as our experienced guides set you up with everything you need—warm clothing, skis, poles, boots and your own .22 caliber rifle. Do you have the right stuff to top your friends in your own mini-Olympics? Don’t miss this unique opportunity to find out!

Canoe Trips

Just moments away from Paws Up, enjoy a relaxing luxury canoe trip on the Clearwater River. Located just north of the town of Seeley Lake, you’ll wind along a 3.5-mile stretch of the river as you take in the jaw-dropping views of the Swan Mountains.

The river provides a slight current and the activity can be completed at a leisurely pace in about two hours. This is a guided activity and transportation will be provided to and from The Resort. Good to know: Don’t forget to pack sunglasses, sunscreen, a light jacket and a hat.

Cattle Drives at Paws Up

For those searching for an authentic Montana dude ranch cattle drive, look no further than The Resort at Paws Up. You’ll be right in the middle of a rugged landscape—finding, collecting, and pushing 800-pound Corriente cows into picturesque pastures.

You may even get to “cut” an individual out from the herd. You’ll learn the history behind cattle driving, try your hand at essential rodeo skills and get a feel for how challenging cattle ranching can be.

When all is said and done, you’ll walk away (perhaps a bit bowlegged), knowing you have what it takes to become a true Montana wrangler. Novice and advanced riders alike will join with seasoned ranch hands in driving a herd of cattle for the experience of a lifetime.

You’ll saddle up your horse and set out to gather the cattle. It’s an unforgettable adventure that will help you discover your inner wrangler. Novice guests should experience a trail ride prior to signing up for a cattle drive, so that they get a better understanding of how to steer a horse independently from the group.

Cross-Country Skiing
With reliable snowpack and a history of Norwegian and Swedish settlers, Montana cross-country skiing could practically be considered the state sport.

Your Paws Up guide will outfit you with the best equipment and lead you through the expertly groomed trails of the Lubrecht Experimental Forest as well as The Resort itself. Imagine gliding your way under a canopy of conifers freshly dusted in white powder.

From time to time, you’ll stop to enjoy the incomparable serenity of the Montana wilderness in winter. If you want to take your eyes off nature and focus on your skiing techniques, you’ve come to the right place, too. The Paws Up guides can demonstrate and teach every aspect of classic cross-country skiing.

Dogsledding
It should come as no surprise that one of The Resort at Paws Up’s signature winter adventures is centered around man’s best friend. Montana dogsledding will have you gliding across the snow in a winter wonderland pulled by a team of Alaskan Huskies.

The dogs’ enthusiasm for running makes for a thrilling ride, and their big hearts will quickly win you over. As friendly as they are, you can give them as many neck scratches and belly rubs as you like.

Paws Up offers two dogsledding experiences. On the one-hour trip, you and your family can meet the dogs, spend time petting and socializing with them and watch them get hooked up. Then the dogs will take you on a ride of a lifetime through some of Montana’s most beautiful countryside.

For the two-hour Iditarod Experience option, you get to do all of the above plus you have the opportunity to learn how to drive a sled yourself. It’s twice the fun and twice the time spent with the dogs on the trail.

We’ll have hot chocolate to warm you up, and we’ll provide lots of photo opportunities, as well. This will be a memory you and your family will cherish for a lifetime.

Mountain Bike

They say four wheels move the body but two wheels move the soul. Nowhere is this more true than at The Resort at Paws Up, where there are literally hundreds of miles of trails to explore and conquer on a top-of-the-line Montana mountain bike.

Take a guided excursion on your two-wheeler or set your sights on a tour of a historic Montana boomtown. No matter what trail you end up traveling on, you’re in for an enriching and rejuvenating workout.

Fly-Fishing Resort

There’s almost nothing in life that rivals the feeling of a hefty trout striking your fly and the ensuing fight—headshakes and all. With that in mind, we’d like to welcome you to a slice of Montana fly-fishing heaven.

Paws Up is a Montana fly-fishing resort located within the “golden triangle” of western trout fly-fishing. It boasts a creelful of legendary rivers on property or nearby—including the Blackfoot, Bitterroot and Missouri.

So whether you’re checking off a few more Montana rivers from your wish list or are ready to pioneer into some true trout wilderness, this is the place for you.

Horseback Riding Vacation

Time to cowboy up. From spectacular views of the legendary Blackfoot River and Jones’ Pond to sprawling meadows waiting to be explored and endless conifer forests, Paws Up features scenic equestrian experiences you won’t get on any other Montana dude ranch horseback riding vacation.

At The Resort, you’ll take in a wide-eyed gulp of the surrounding wilderness. Whether you’re an experienced rider or you’ve never been horseback riding before, you’ll lay eyes on historical and breathtaking sights during your unforgettable riding excursion.

Trail rides, customized lessons for kids in Montana’s largest private equestrian center—the Saddle Club at Paws Up—and private advanced rides are all available. Or try your hand running and sorting cattle with an authentic cattle drive.

Hot Air Ballooning

Let Paws Up take you up, up and away in our brand-new, beautiful hot air balloon. You’ll take in all that this breathtaking landscape has to offer in an unforgettable journey across Montana’s Big Sky.

At times, you’ll flow smoothly over the rolling terrain like a silent roller coaster—inhaling the intoxicating scent of millions of Ponderosa pines. At other times, you’ll find yourself brushing the soft grey bottom of a wandering cloud or two.

Hot air ballooning is an experience. Montana hot air ballooning in the majestic Blackfoot River Valley is the experience of a lifetime. Our hot air balloon operates year-round, depending on appropriate weather conditions.

Island Lodge

Nestled among the pines on a breathtaking island, the Island Lodge at Salmon Lake provides access to five picturesque miles of water at the southernmost tip of the Seeley Swan Valley.

It’s a private retreat where you can experience a whole host of Montana summer activities, including fishing*, a floating trampoline, jet skiing, kayaking, paddleboarding, paddleboats, swimming, pontoon boat tours, wakeboarding, wakesurfing and waterskiing.

Helping you get your feet wet, the Lodge comes staffed with activity guides, a talented chef and an island butler. Naturally, fine cuisine is prepared on-site and includes a beverage service with beer, wine and signature cocktails like our gently spiked blackberry lemonade. Evenings sparkle with sunsets and bonfires.

Just a 15-minute drive from The Resort at Paws Up, the Island Lodge at Salmon Lake will have you bobbing up and down for joy. Full-day plus four-hour morning, afternoon and evening excursions are available.

Nature Hike

Take a Montana nature hike and discover the diverse flora and fauna of Paws Up with more than 30 miles of marked trails to explore. This inclusive activity features a variety of terrains to accommodate all guests.

Choose to go your own way, or for a fee you can let one of our naturalists guide you with information about native plants and wildlife, as well as the storied history of the ranch. You’ll cross expansive meadows and babbling brooks, and hike alongside the legendary Blackfoot River.

In the winter, we transition to snowshoeing for an invigorating and downright magical way to explore the wilderness of Paws Up. Good to know: A few things to have on hand are a trail map, extra water and snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.

Montana River Rafting

The Resort at Paws Up offers three types of river trips for all levels of adventure. For guests looking for a leisurely, quiet trek, there is the Clearwater River Canoe Trip, which is fun for all ages.

Those wanting a bit more excitement can float down the Blackfoot River and its class I and II rapids in a raft or inflatable kayak. And for those wanting the ultimate thrill, we offer Alberton Gorge Whitewater Rafting, a full day of adventure, featuring class III+ rapids.

Big Sky Photography
Picture this: Paws Up’s resident bald eagle is making a breathtaking appearance above the Montana landscape, and, this time, you have all the skills you need to capture the scene with justice. In this family-friendly workshop, Resort Photographer and Filmmaker Stuart Thurlkill teaches how best to photograph landscapes, wildlife and other features of the great outdoors.

You and your kids will learn expert tips and techniques in a brief tutorial, then venture out with Thurlkill into the field to take photos from a panoramic viewpoint. Bring your camera, or feel free to use the one on your phone.
